FCC Reveals New PS3 TOOL Details, Pictures and User Manual

As we brought the first pictures of the new PS3 TOOL, we also bring more information, thanks to the FCC.

Finally the FCC's images of the DECH-1400A have been made available for public viewing, and they show very interesting hardware differences...

It's a dev kit model, more power efficient but has some parts that will be used in the PS3 slim.

in fact this is the "blurred" model of the "making batman" pics, remember?

I think it is made especially for game developers. The second ethernet port is labeled "DEV LAN"

This is a DEv tool thats all there is to it the first version of the dev models had just tool on them with no ps3 logo.

Used by developers when testing game builds - it's hooked into the usual compiler box that usually hooked into a PC or server.

That way incomplete game builds can be tested by compiling them which is then streamed onto the PS3 to check real-world performance on exact PS3 hardware. Regular PS3s can't load custom builds and content (due to the security to stop piracy and loading unauthorized code of course), so they need special ones such as this (notice the additional ethernet port labeled 'DEV', one for internet and one for being connected to the compiler).

This way they can also track bugs and have automatic logging. Many game magazine or large sites will have a debug unit for playing preview code of incomplete games.

The picture below is of one of the 360 debug units, where the ports for connecting to the PC / compiler are in the top where it looks like an oversized hard drive.

It was like 600$ and if you knew the lingo you could make simple games for the PS1. I guess this Yaroze PS3 is prolly like 6000$ lol.
Would I buy one? Only for Dev Home & Firmware, otherwise its playing games on it would be tough with all that "Matrix" Code in the way...

It's common knowledge that devs have these PS3's and they look the same as the retail units, only they come with more memory and extra lan ports.

this is basically a 60 GIG PS3 design, notice the 4 USBs

It's just old and it's the PS3 dev kit not a retail PS3.

Dev kits got shrunk too, from a server rack size down too retail size.
