IncGamers: Aion Hands On Preview Part Four

In the fourth part of IncGamers' Aion preview, they discuss trade, professions and item enhancements available in the game. Oh yes, there's more to Aion than just a pretty face.

"Unlike other MMOs, in Aion your character can learn all the crafting professions in the game. You automatically learn the two extracting professions, but you can learn Armoursmithing, Alchemy, Weaponsmithing, Sewing, Cooking and Handiwork.

A quest to craft simple items starts off each profession, then further crafting increases your skill. When your character reaches a certain level of proficiency they can learn new crafting skills. As with the application of Mana Stones etc., if you fail while creating an item, all the materials are lost. This can be a costly error, so be sure not to aim too far above your ability."

gasp, that's gonna hurt if you lose the materials many times.

FFXI had a crafting system which was much much more unforgiving from what I've read.

Malfurion5795d ago

That would just piss people off though, surely. It's pretty risky making something you just learned then, kinda annoying.

Dorjan5795d ago

Well you don't "learn" how to make things, each item has a difficulty and the closer you are to it, the better the chance of making it (and getting skill ups).

In FFXI though, it all depends on the weather, moon position, day of the week and your skill.

+ chance...

I like the sound of the ability to learn a broader range of professions.

"there's more to Aion than just a pretty face"

Just in the last 2-3 weeks I have first heard of the game, and started to be pretty interested about it!

Dorjan5795d ago

Although I see the hype, I don't share it. Aion just seems like a collection of MMOs, the world is different sure but it just doesn't feel right for me.

Redrudy5795d ago

But the previews on incgamers read encouragingly don't you feel? Bill is a long-term WoW player and as I understand Aion has quite a pull on her so it must have something more than clone-itis - yeh I know it's a made up word?

Chazmers5795d ago

this does look like a beautiful game

Maticus5795d ago

Very impressed with the amount of content for early levels, we'll see what it's like later on.

Cool, I've been looking forward to part 4!
