a visor
a separate campaign said to be 6 to 8 hours (<-this is an okay length if true)

I guess the disappointing part to me is it's only 3 new maps and 2 new weapons. That doesn't seem like enough to me. Am I the only one that honestly feels that way?

Also did they remove the ability of dual wielding weapons?

I am a Halo fan. I'm not a huge fan like some people here but I have finished and completed all 3 Halo games and logged my share of hours online playing 2 and 3.

My concerns for this title are real, especially for full price.

ODST appears to me to be closer to Halo 2 then 3. Unless I am mistaken, after I posted last night I thought to myself are the shield and healing abilities, like dual wielding weapons, gone as well from this game? If they are this game will play more like Halo 2 then Halo 3 with 2 new weapons and 3 new maps.

I'm now even more concern whether this will appeal to me because I really like dual wielding weapons, the shields and healing/killing abilities.

Why can't someone give an honest opinion on gaming without most people getting so offended and immediately attack that the person not jumping up and down for joy with every titles to grace their favorite system is a troll, fanboy or just a hater?

Nobody, unless they are just plain ignorant, doubts this game will sell in huge numbers (it's Halo!) but I wonder what the general census will be from the average Halo fan about it's gameplay being more old school Halo then new (well 07).

But you gotta remember they arent spartans so they will move slower, wont be able to jump as high, less health, and wont be able to inflict as much damage in a melee as a spartan.

Whether the games worth the $99 AUD is still a mystery, but its from bungie so ive already pre-ordered it. As long as its a Bungie Halo then i will always day one purchase it.

Whats bugs me is sony fans claiming Halo is gay and halo is sh*t, just dont understand why its so good and havent even played it. What they need to realize is that there are things that happen in Halo that can never happen in another game, some situation you find yourself in during a multiplayer are just freaking bizarre.

Well you appear to be more of a fan of the series and thought more about what ODST will offer than I. Do you think a slower moving, less exaggerated jump and melee Halo game will appeal more to the Halo 3 fan (newer generation of Halo fan) or more to Halo 2 fan?

I am spoiled by the run button on most shooters today. It helps get from cover to cover faster and be a harder target for skilled snipers. The game moving slower concerns me a bit but the jumping and melee attack being less effective, for me, is a bonus.

I guess that is why it is labeled as more tactical. It will definitely have a different feel to it than what some Halo fans are use to.

Edit: I () this (newer generation of Halo fan) because a lot of people I know that were into Halo 2 weren't as big a fan of Halo 3 so I am assuming Halo 3 has a lot of new fans.

I agree that people that have not played Halo really should if they are a shooter fan at all. It has great immersion, hit detection and it's just a flat out fun game.

The thing I think that doesn't appeal to me (a lot of my casual shooters fan friends are like this as well) about Halo is the space theme. I have always been a shooter fan since Doom but I had a hard time sticking to space shooters like UT, Tribes, Halo etc.

I am more into Ghost Recon, Rainbow, COD, Battlefield, etc style shooters. There is no denying the fun that can be had playing a Halo title though. The only thing that doesn't appeal to me about Halo games is the Sword and Hammer. Are they removed from ODST as well?

for the record, i have both a ps3 and 360 and i have never hidden the fact that i like my 360 more. I love halo, always have. Halo CE is still my favorite shooter of all time. Halo 2 and 3 were good in different ways, but i didn't like the single player as much in both games.

I mean I loved Halo:CE because the story was great and it was a great game. Halo 2 added the multiplayer and that was really fun, and the story still seemed to be going strong. Halo 3 just killed the series for me :/. Too much focus on multiplayer (which was already great) and not enough on the story. I mean...the ending was retarded.

And now Halo ODST? Like wtf? This game is going to go the way of Mario and Sonic. Great early on...but then everything else is just crappy spinoffs for a quick buck.

How long is the campaign? HOw many times does bungie have to say it has grown beyond an expansion pack? But of course you know better than them. So, Are you going to buy modern warfare 2. Like the campaign of the first one was really long. Like that stopped the game from being great. Just because ODST started off as an expansion, it did not have to remain as one.
IF you don't have a 360 or don't care for it, do not buy it. I am sure Bungie will survive without you.

gears of war 2 used the same engine as gears 1, new campaign mode, had the same multiplayer (however it doesn't work with gears 1), and added horde mode.

halo3:odst uses the same engine as halo 3, new campaign mode, has the same multiplayer as halo 3 (however it's backwards compatable with halo 3), added horde mode, and has the beta for halo reach.

to me that warrents it as more then what someone would pay for DLC. To me DLC worth $20 is the equivelent of the new GTA4 side missions, a new 2 or 3 hour mini campaign.

I swear if they called this game "ODST" people would not be complaining about this stupid dlc argument.

what makes a game worth 60 bucks to you. Bioshock had only a campaign and a lot of people bought that for 60 bucks. Bioshock had a longer campaign but the addition of Firefight adds to the replay ability of ODST. Games like Bioshock had little to make you want to play it again, but ODST has these secret things you can find that will make the fans want to play through a few times just to find them all. (kind of like skulls from the other 3.)

To me, the price is more than justified when compared to full priced, campaign only games that get released.

In what way Socom, Warhawk and GT5p are "less than half a game"? I thought people were most interested in the multiplayer nowadays. BTW, 40$ is at least reasonable, but full price for 3 additional maps and a shorter and forgettable story (Master Chief wont be there) is really a rip-off for current Halo 3 owners. For newcomers it might be a good purchase, I guess.

Halo 3 ODST contains a semi-lengthy campaign, online coop, firefight (Halo's version of Horde mode), Halo 3 standalone multiplayer and a halo reach beta. That's alot of stuff for a game you know Bungie will be supporting. I support Bungie because they support their games. I don't mind paying $60 at all.

Well, the games I listed feature either only multi-player or single player modes. Or in the case of GT5p it features less then 1/5th the total content of what is expected in gt5, 40 dollars for what should have been a free demo(where's the outcry for that?).

Also, how do you know the length of the single player campaign already? They said it'd be shorter but open world games already tend to be shorter but make up for it by having extensive maps which players can explore. Throw in co-op and you've already got a limitless number of fun things to do... such as rocket tag or hide and seek.

As for the maps, most sequels have the same maps but throw in 3 or 4 extra new-ones. Bungie is just increasing the size of the community by allowing odst only owners to play with halo 3 owners and vice versa. Personally I think that is a great idea, it's like having a backwards compatible game.

you also completely ignore firefight, which we don't even know how many maps that has, heck, i bet that alone could sell for $40 and still be on par with what you get from gt5p/socom/warhawk/l4d...

throw in the beta for halo reach, i mean people pay for qore for the exact same reason.

Like I said, if they renamed the game "ODST" then sold the game for $60 people wouldn't be having this argument.

Anyway, I'm not as interested in this game because the halo 3 story was really not good for me. I loved Halo 1 and 2 (I don't know why people don't like Halo 2) but Halo 3 was purely a multiplayer thing, which would be fun except that the game was mis-advertised. "Finish the Fight" didn't happen. It was not a stunning ending, although the last driving level was pretty fun. I think that 60 dollars is to much for ODST. Looks like Bungie got a taste of the money and likes it very much.

It wasnt so long ago that we thought Halo 3 would be the last true Halo from Bungie. The fact, that we get ODST and Reach next year is like Christmas in September.

I thought it was brilliant to branch off from the Master Chief driven storyline. But, who knew, it would turn into this open world gem?

The news in the interview is the fact that Reach is 2 years into development (Yes!) that means next September we may have our hands on what may be the definative FPS of this generation.

As a Halo fan, this year's Halo Wars was a fan treat. Not to mention, the Mythic map pack reminded us why we love Halo period.

To get a campaign of this length and scope, Firefight, and 3 new maps, all of which the massive Halo community will be eating up from day one is the reason you can reserve my space in line Midnight on September 22nd.
