If you're still holding out for a price drop before picking up a Wii, you should probably give up now. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata told investors, "At present we're not thinking of doing anything with the price."
They don't need to drop price, just release some new colours. Their sales have slowed, but they're not so low that they have to do something about it.
"As reason for why he's not considering a price drop, Iwata stated that he believes Nintendo's drop in hardware sales from the first quarter of last year is due not to price but to a lack of major game titles." There could definitely be some truth to that -- No Mario Galaxy followed by Smash Bros. and Wii Fit. Wii Sports Resort, Prime Trilogy and New Super Mario Bros. isn't a bad lineup, but it's not a whole new (GOTY-caliber) Mario followed by Smash Bros., either. Plus, it's the middle of a recession, with the industry at a 9-year low. If you want to kickstart sales, why not cut the price? Then again, Big N has been turning a profit on Wii since day one. They aren't in a hurry now, since they've probably got enough cash to tide them over for the next two gens.
