"It was, perhaps, not the most shocking news when Ziff Davis Media announced in January that Electronic Gaming Monthly would cease publication after 234 issues. Saddening, but not shocking. Times are tough. The economy's in the crapper. Paid advertising and revenue are way down for all print magazines in America -- not just game mags, which average about 100 pages an issue nowadays instead of the 130 or more they boasted a few years ago. EGM was the last surviving print magazine in Ziff Davis's U.S. media portfolio by 2009, and when they sold their Game Group (which included 1UP.com) to Hearst Corporation at the start of the year, the magazine was not much more than an afterthought to the minds of most involved."
