GrE writes, "With the extra burden of interactivity on their backs, video-game developers are faced with two very different ways of entertaining their audience. You can either take something interesting from real-life and attempt to replicate it in pixels or you can depart from reality; either offering scenarios of great originality or subverting real-life for the purpose of fun.
In the history of gaming there have been many examples of games which could be categorized in one of the latter methods of making video-games and many extremes of those two such as Psychonauts and Saints Row 2 but "fun" is subjective. Games aiming for realism have a harder time achieving their goal, limited by technology, possible control methods, absolute dedication and expertise in what is being replicated. Many games have gone down the route of simulation and only a few have come close to achieving their goal (the Total War series is a great example), but I have never played any video-game that has managed to actually match its real life counterpart. Never, that is, until I first popped EA's Fight Night Round 4 into my 360."
Fight Night Round 4 swings its final punch, as online servers will be taken down next year according to a press release from EA.
Guess we won't see another Fight Night until next gen at the soonest. Did any notable boxing games come out this gen at all?
Fight night round 4 is still the best boxing game at the moment.
I still pop it in my old Xbox from time to time and nothing beats the feeling of a close fight in the late rounds.
cut the UFC Servers too , some of those grapples look awkward when people would walk in and see 2 guys straddling each other, i tried soo hard to make it not look weird
Round 4 was the best the franchise had to offer. You could find success playing to each fighters strengths and anytime somone wanted to spam a particular cheese i could always find a realistic boxing strategy to counter it. Champion started off pretty good but the game was very exploitable and became a cheese fest. The auto block severely hurt the game as well. If they ever make a new game i hope they look at how they achieved competitve balance in the gameplay of Round 4.
DSOGaming writes: "YouTube’s members ‘Andreaa’, “airGaming”, “reznoire” and “John GodGames Emus” have shared some videos showing Fight Night Round 4, Uncharted, MotorStorm, Dante’s Inferno, Sonic 4 and Resistance 2 running on the latest version of the Playstation 3 emulator, RPCS3."
Improved 4K visuals, a new generation of boxers and improved multiplayer lobbies…man, that would be great. Until that day comes, Fight Night is going to remain outside of the periphery of the fighting game genre, as the ref slowly counts one of the finest franchises out of the ring.
Fight Night Champion was an abomination - but man, I'd love to see a new gen Fight Night game.
This game looks simply amazing!
I can't believe it looks so much better than Round 3! R3 looks fantastic!
I am glad that they are adding in button pressing, instead of stick fighting, via DLC.
I loved this game for a week. After that It pissed me off that through out my Legacy, most of the fighter for the CPU were like the best defenders in the world. No matter which flurries I through out it always seemed to get blocked and counter 5 seconds later.
I also hated the training mini games. I sucked at bag push, and the heavy bag combo was hard because the crappy TPC was in accurate. Game disappointedly me big time after really getting to know it.
the physics engine in this game is amazing! Also, the boxer share allows you to pit a rematch of Bruce Lee vs. Chuck Norris!
protip: Hold left trigger then press B for a hilarious nutshot.
