Bethesda on Bungie's next game publisher

Posting on his personal blog, Bethesda Game Studios production director Ashley Cheng has said he can "only imagine how much it will cost to snag" Bungie's next title.

Because of this he believes there are only a handful of publishers who can "afford to publish" the game. These include Microsoft, Activision, Ubisoft, EA Partners, Bethesda and Sony. He adds that Sony would be "interesting. Unlikely".

There must be someone ...hmmm.

I got my bets on Microsoft or Activision .

"In addition, Microsoft and Bungie said that they intend to "expand their partnership to include new IP created and owned by Bungie."

"We will continue to develop with our primary focus on Microsoft's platforms; we greatly value our mutually prosperous relationship with our publisher, Microsoft Game Studios, and we look forward to continuing that affiliation through Halo and beyond."

So there you have it. Nothing will really change regarding what system Bungie's titles touch. All that really happened was Bungie wanted Microsoft to stop breathing down their neck so when independent and really thats the basics of it. Not so they could "explore other platforms"

Microsoft seems pretty much confirmed to be the publisher although I'm sure Bungie was snooping around for the biggest check. They have a track record in sales so big now that they have that ego that they feel as any publisher would be lucky to publish a game from them. Unless someone offered more money than Microsoft (rofl, highly unlikely) its Microsoft.

Microsoft have first dibs on Bungie games so MS must have not liked the game.

Sony might go after it just for the rights to say a 360 exclusive developer is now doing a PS3 exclusive. But I doubt that no matter how much I want it.

I expected EA will get it but I hope Activision don't get it as I am not buying Activision games anymore. That included MW2.

edit: Blaze929 They have the sales because MS heavily advertise Bungies games. It doesn't mean a new IP will do the same. I think in the mainstream Halo is more known than Bungie.

Blaze9293831d ago

Still yet Bungie CREATED Halo. For all we know their new IP could be the next big thing. Without Bungie, there would be no Halo.

It's going to be Microsoft. We all know it.

Why is there so much animosity toward Activision these days?

Disccordia3831d ago

Because Activision turned into what EA were like a few years back. They ditched a load of games because sequels were not possible. They are happy churning out CoD, Tony Hawks and Guitar Hero games.

RockmanII73831d ago

Trust me, its going to be Take Two Interactive. Bungie already has a history of working with them.

DaTruth3831d ago

These guys need to work on Oni 2. I was going to wait for the PS2 to come down in price, but when I played Oni I went out and bought it the next day. What a gem, it was an architectural masterpiece!

I really hope it MS, Bethesda or Sony and not EA or Cractivision. Fresh ip from Bungie should be great and I hope the ps3 guys get to sample something from them. If not I will just have to wait till october when I pick up a 360.

sukru3831d ago (Edited 3831d ago )

Anything except Activision is fine in my opinion.

EA has redeemed itself for me (especially with Dead Space, and upcoming Brutal Legend)

LiL T3831d ago

True and I do like me some rockband.

Sheikh Yerbouti3831d ago

made me appreciate EA more, great game.

DaTruth3831d ago

I hope it is not MS! Because I won't get to play it if it is!

blizzard_cool3831d ago

Well I think it's still MS... But I seriously hope it would be Sony but the chances are really really really small.

al90363831d ago

Why would Sony be interested at all, they have enough fps's in their 1st party line-up with Killzone and the upcoming MAG. To bad Microsoft used Bungie all up, if I was a publisher I'd question weather Bungie could repeat the success they had with Halo in a new non-fps IP,mmmm I wonder...

Marquis_de_Sade3831d ago

Who said anything about the new IP being a FPS?

RockmanII73830d ago

You've clearly never played a bungie game outside of Halo

THC CELL3831d ago

sony no they could buy into bungie and get them to develop games

point is Sony dont need bungie
its best to stay with Microsoft as they have no one as it is for exclusive games

KionicWarlord2223831d ago (Edited 3831d ago )

I dont know lets see if he comments....

RememberThe3573831d ago (Edited 3831d ago )

Sony by no means needs Bungie. Sony has the deepest first and second party in the industry. I'm sure Sony would love to partner with Bungie, but there's no need for it.

I also think it's better if Bungie works exclusively with MS, it balances things out a bit.

@ Rememberthe357.

when I say ;is that dude serious?

I'm refering to this

"its best to stay with Microsoft as they have no one as it is for exclusive games"

all the following games are on xbox360 or microsoft vista

epic; gears , shadow complex

rare ; perfect dark xbla , banjo

remedy ; Alan wake

ubisoft; Splinter cell Convviction

Turn10 ; Forza 3

valve ; L4D2

biowares ; Mass effect 2

namco ; Magna Carta II

Most of them are major Selling Franchises and he'S saying microsoft does not have exclusive games? GET THE EFF OUTTA HEA!

Fox013831d ago

There's never too much games, support, so you saying "Sony doesn't need this and that" is just plain fanboy nonsense.

KionicWarlord2223831d ago

You didnt have to make it so noticeable ...

likedamaster3830d ago

Sony could sure use bungie-type sales though.
