New Bungie IP deal "close"

Bungie has revealed that the secret, non-Halo game it's working on is still not signed to a publisher - but suggested a deal is "close".

Asked whether a publishing partner had been secured for the new game, Bungie's Lars Bakken told Eurogamer: "I think internally we'll know sometime soon. I don't handle these things, but I'd imagine we're going to know way before we make the public announcement of who's handling that! But sure, I think those talks are, I guess, close."

I hope its a PS3 exclusive. With Bungie's success on the 360, who knows what they can pull off on the PS3!

kratos173830d ago

i highly dought a ps3 exclusive but there is a chance of a multiplatform game

all i know is that it will have something to do with x-box

sunil3830d ago

Highly doubt it will be a PS3 exclusive. It might be a Wii game... everybody seems to be thinking 360 and PS3 only... Wii has a 50 mil install base !

Eiffel3830d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

Maybe. But I highly doubt it. Actually I'm very certain it won't be. Bungie has it to good on the Xbox division. They would never leave their fans.

chrisnick3830d ago

if anything, ms will go deep in their pockets to make sure it isn't a ps3 exclusive, then get some exclusive dlc, and call their version the "definitive version"

PirateThom3829d ago

Microsoft still have "first dibs" on any new Bungie IPs. I doubt they're going to pass up on it in any way.

Don't get your hopes up for this new IP to be hitting the Playstation 3 or anywhere else besides the Xbox 360 and possibly PC:

"In addition, Microsoft and Bungie said that they intend to "expand their partnership to include new IP created and owned by Bungie."

"We will continue to develop with our primary focus on Microsoft's platforms; we greatly value our mutually prosperous relationship with our publisher, Microsoft Game Studios, and we look forward to continuing that affiliation through Halo and beyond."

So there you have it. Nothing will really change regarding what system Bungie's titles touch. All that really happened was Bungie wanted Microsoft to stop breathing down their neck so when independent and really thats the basics of it. Not so they could "explore other platforms"

pumpkinpunker3829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

I doubt it would be a PS3 exclusive. MS rescued Bungie from near bankruptcy while Bungie was developing Halo: CE. However, it could be multiplatform...maybe.

RememberThe3573829d ago

Agreed. They're probably working out the deal with MGS. Everything that Bungie has done for MS has been a gold mine for them. I'd imagine MS would want to be apart of that.

gaffyh3829d ago

@1.7 - well Sony rescued Square Enix from bankruptcy when Final Fantasy Spirits Within flopped, but look at who they are developing games for.

but yeah i doubt Bungie will make a PS3 game when all of their fans are Xbox owners.

Blaze9293829d ago

besides, Sony isn't into paying big money for games...unless its Ghostbusters *sigh*.

bungie will go to PS3 for sure so they can use CELL and blu ray for their next game

bungie has probably wanted to be sony dev for years

kratos173829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

i have to disagree with you because all devs care about is money and microsoft is the only company that will write big checks and never look back

CobraKai3829d ago

We're here all week folks!!!

Xi3829d ago

I wish bungie would publish their own games.

Blaze9293829d ago

they're no where near big enough to handle publishing.

Xi3829d ago

I wish they'd pull a valve or something. Heck I wish they'd just team-up with valve and begin delivering content on steam directly, then they could also help valve develop their steam-cloud technology and introduce proper stat tracking into steam profiles.

Eiffel3829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

Wish denied. Reality replaced. And no to Valve and them teaming up. Valve got to big for its pants.

Xi3829d ago

Valve and bungie are arguably the two studio with the largest focus on continuing community support. They're also 2 developers with a large background in developing creative online software solutions.

Bungie: their match-making system, their online tracking, their video/file sharing, forge, their original live support.
valve: steam and their SDK tools, team-fortress 2 continual updates.

all they need are some partnerships with talented smaller development teams like Certain Fffinity to help with content creation, and port support and they'd be set.

I guess one can only dream.

Bungie [email protected] up by living MS, they were in trouble financially and MS save their rears by being their publishers and then they backstab the one that got them healthy again.

Bungie can go to hell for all I care, anything they produce I will not buy it from traitors.

Anyways they have been decreasing in quality just like rare did, and no doubts that the next installment ODST its going to be the worst of them all, heck we can consider it an extension or map pack update.
