Nothing will dethrone WoW, but a passionate attempt must always be acknowledged.
Prolly not, but Star Wars TOR should give it a run for its money.
Somehow I don't really trust a baseball player to dethrone WoW. But we'll se what he brings. You never know
Curt Schilling MMO, wow I'm not sure too many people that game like baseball enough to want to play a game that a pitcher has created. We don't even know what kind of MMO it'll be. I'm not holding my breath till I see proof.
Yeah, no proof is hurting it I think. But I reckon he might be scared by the critical backlash. Look at great examples in the past of games held from the public light and much hyped only to bomb (e.g. Romero & Daikatana). It's a risk. But it could also be something special...
Apparently R.A. Salvatore and Todd McFarlane are working on it, so they at least have something going for it.
Rich Gallup is working on it, too. Dude is awesome.
Rich Gallup, eh? Nice. =)
Well, he plays a lot of MMO's and I'm sure he can come up with something good, given the appropriate staff of experienced veterans.
I have high hopes for whatever this guy puts out. He has always come off as a someone who puts passion behind what he is doing.
Yea very true, I remember the time his foot was bleeding and he kept on playing, that year Boston came back 3 games to win the series.
oh please, it was just red nail polish...
I dont get why mmo's are so popular, i mean they take over your life lol
Not to forget they also cost a good monthly fee.
i used to play it few years back. im pretty sure it was free idr
Runescape is indeed free and was an old haunting ground when I was 16 or so. Spent a good few years on it, got a high level and still have a few rare items still kicking about last I checked - lol. But I also paid for membership, which gives you the full experience.
I'm just baffled over that fact that Curt Shilling is part of this project...
Well, he came up with the initial concept and is the driving force behind it! He is the chairman and founder, while also working at ground level. He's definitely putting his heart into it at a big risk. But they are generating revenue...
.. why? He's a hardcore gamer. You do know gamers have other lives and it's not just EMO teens that enjoy VGs right?
part of the project? Like 6.1 said he created the project.
... that he has Todd McFarlane and R. A. Salvatore working on this project. I've met a few people from 38 Studios, and they're as passionate about what they do as anyone you'll meet. Curt Schilling also has a huge, devoted fanbase in Boston, who support his philanthropic pursuits. His connections to the Red Sox, Charities and ALS Organizations specifically give him a great outlet to promote his work if he decides to use them. Knowing what I know about him, he'll probably give a significant portion of all profits to charity. That is something that I can get behind for obvious reasons, but it's also something that's basically unheard of in the game industry.
How much of a role is R. A. Salvatore taking? His style of writing is perfect for an mmo.
He and Todd McFarlane are listed as visionaries along with Curt Schilling on their website. Hopefully they are both completely involved in the project. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this team achieves their goal and produces a premiere AAA MMO.
$50-100 Million well for a lot of you fanatics this amount of money is nothing right?
I hope it's good. Good MMORPGs are needed...
curt shcilling gamer what
If Star Wars: The Old Republic doesn't dethrone WoW then I don't think any game will. Copernicus, I've never even heard of that.
Well, one of the comments to the article left this link: http://mmocker.com/2009/07/... It's a small poll, but it has Copernicus ahead of The Old Republic.
