TPCG Review: Novatech X55MV Pro

The fine line between price and performance is a tricky tightrope to tread. Aim too high and you price yourself out of the market, or miss the mark with a weak GPU or too little RAM and you're no use to anyone regardless of affordability. The 9600M GT in the X55MV Pro is quite an interesting little GPU in this regard. It sports an entire gigabyte of GDDR3 RAM running at 430MHz (860MHz effective) and a core clock speed of 575MHz, with its 32 stream processors chugging along at solid 1400MHz. Its name would suggest that it runs on a par with the desktop 9600GT part, but in actual fact it's nearer to an 8600 GTS. While this doesn't make for the best possible gaming performance, at the laptop's default 1680 x 1050 resolution it's more than workable, not to mention fully DX10 compatible.
