Achievements have been in video games for many years, though not in the way we know them now. Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64 rewarded players who completed goals with guns, cheats & special modes, while Spyro 2 on the original PlayStation rewarded players who unlocked 'Skill Points' with extra lives.
However, these achievements really created the foundation that PlayStation's Trophies and Xbox 360's Achievements and Gamerscore were based upon, although they were arguably not as rewarding or satisfying to achieve. As the months go by since the introduction of Trophies to the PS3 on July 2nd 2008, to compete with rival Xbox 360's Achievements and Gamerscore system, the challenges set by developers for Trophies have changed drastically.
The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.
Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!
The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer
Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱
The inFamous games are an important part of PlayStation history, but the series is in limbo and playing older entries isn't exactly easy.
Would like remasters of 1 and 2. I enjoyed them much more than Second Son.
1 & 2 had more of an emphasis on climbing and the traversal requires a bit more effort in a good way. It was rewarding. Second Son made climbing mostly obsolete so they put little effort into it. The traversal was just great in inFamous 1 & 2. There's a reason Sunset Overdrive copied and improved upon the induction grind mechanic.
Reminds me of how I felt about the decline of parkour and the well designed tombs (basically Prince Of Persia levels) that we saw in the Assassin's Creed games.
The story and atmosphere were also much better in 1 & 2.
Electricity is just a brilliant superpower for an open world city. It perfectly fits just like webslinging does in New York and it has many applications.
Wouldn't the onus be on the consumers? If they bought the Infamous games, then we'd have more games from that series.
I would love to see a new game but a feel that would get a response similar to Saints Row.
Loved all 3 of them. I couldn't get on with the vampire spin off though. Wish they didn't move away from cole but I didn't mind the other character.
Nixxes' Remaster focus could set the stage to resurrect many obscure titles like the karma-centered, superpower-fueled sandbox of Infamous.
Infamous remaster? How about an Infamous re-Boot! This is one game that doesn't need a remaster, it needs either a proper equal of a reboot of the original. And since Sony is currently in development with Marvel, i can totally see them having guest marvel characters to appear in Cole's world.
I'd like a Killzone 2 Remaster.
Keep the visuals style as is ... just improve the LoD and the resolution
There is a lot of the PS3 era that I would love to see ported/remastered. But, unfortunately, they are probably not commercially viable and I have no idea who owns the rights currently. Stuff like Sire: Blood Curse, White Knight Chronicles, Tokyo Jungle, Folklore, etc.
Infamous on the other hand was never a series that I found good or interesting. Especially when compared with other contemporaries like Prototype. But, given how bare the subgenre is right now, I would dig a remaster.
Infamous, Resistance, and killzine are so ripe for a remaster, I wish Sony would make it happen.
I never thought I would get so much enjoyment from collecting trophies and leveling up. It's almost like a game on its own.
And I agree with the list of "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly".
I doubt I'll ever get the R2 or KZ2 plats, because I just don't have that kind of time to devote to getting them.
I did finally just get the Infamous Plat. I was worried because I was missing just one blast shard, but once I knew where to look (because I saw where others had missed the same shard), I got it and got the Plat.
Trophies have DEFINITELY extended the life of many of the games I've played and that's a good thing! :D
Achievements are just meaningless as people can hack them and now there is even an Action Replay device coming out where you can download Xbox 360 gamesaves and use those to unlock achievements even easier.
I have to say that I'm quite dissapointed in the PS3 trophies. The reason is that you cannot use the trophies to anything except show other people what kind of serious gamer you are, which really blows. They really got to implement something like the xbox achivements so you get gamer points for each trophy which you then can use on buying DLC og new PSN games.
only add to a games replayability.I have gone back to many games to procure that one elusive trophy,Resistance2 being the most recent. It is a sense of accomplishment to finally obtain the platinum and it often forces you to experience a game in ways you might not have considered.Take Warhawk for example, you have to be a well rounded player and try everything the game offers in order to get the platinum,10,000 hours of playtime aside.A trophy reward system, maybe something like the MGO reward shop would be a possible idea but it isn't a requirement(for myself anyways).Favorite platinum so far, either R2 or Fallout, platinums I am not overly proud of,LOTRC,CODWAW.
Question; What is the highest platinum total yet known? My bro has a guy on his psn with 26/27? but I am sure there are higher totals.
Correction-23 platinums.
