Every self-respecting RPG fan knows that the golden age of the genre (with respect to consoles, at least) occurred during the early 1990s on Super Nintendo. Two Final Fantasys, EarthBound, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, and Chrono Trigger are just a sampling of the enduring legacy of SNES. During the N64 days, RPGs pretty much deserted the system, but GameCube saw a bit of a renaissance with the likes of Skies of Arcadia Legends, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, and Baten Kaitos Origins.
Wii has, sadly, taken a step backward, failing so far to dish out anything comparable to even the bunch found on GameCube. There is hope, though, as several developers are planning some major future RPG releases for Wii.
