Speaking at the Develop Conference in Brighton today, Denis Dyack, founder of Silicon Knights, has said he believes Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain could turn out to be a "fantastic experience".
No offense to Dyack, but due to his lack of credibility recently, why do we all of a sudden give a sh*t about what he thinks? Was he the only developer at this Brighton Conference?
who the hell.. is Dyack
Though too human was pretty much regarded as a failure their previous game Eternal darkness tapped into the kinda emotional gaming that heavy rain is striving for. Off the back of that game's greatness it's fair to say he still has legs to stand on so to speak.
Scroll down to see Spoony's comment. That's why. He had one f*ck up. It's not like he doesn't know how to make a good game. Right, well, he just wanted to say something about Heavy Rain. I don't see what's wrong with that.
Kigmal, everyone is entitled to make a mistake. Agreed. But if you look at the deeper issues, they were not simple matters of errors in game design. The real source of discord goes far beyond that matter to the realm of arrogance, blaming the entire world for his problems, attacking those that did not line up to kneel before the throne of Dyack, grossly overestimating the ability to achieve an envisioned design, and then faulting the human race and specific software companies when said vision failed to materialize. As regards his last game, it isn't that Too Human is a bad title. It's the fact it doesn't approach what he hyped it to be. And I mean he personally. Even after the infamous E3 comeuppance he couldn't find humilty in a 3ft square room with both hands even if it was plastered to his face and the floor was made of humility tiles. I think it is great when a developer tries to push beyond the normal limits and do something wonderful and new. But there comes a point in the development cycle when you have to hire the right testers and then you must listen to them when they tell you a core part of your innovative design isn't working as it should. You should not dismiss them and then proceed to do 5 times the number of interviews all the while continuing on down the wrong path with a gleeful look on your face.
When he put out Too Human and the reviews were less than stellar, he had the nerve to mock the media and those of us that did not like the game by saying we didn't get it and that we had no taste in games. Sorry, but the guy is a douche and no, I do not take him seriously, even if he is deciding now to kiss other developers butts that produce games exclusive to Sony.
I'm sorry, but I couldn't stomach Too Human. I gave it a fair shot and played it even for about 5-6 hours.
I hate when Son....I mean Dennis Dyack does that.
No you do not know what I mean. The fact you are vainly attempting to place the actions of Sony on the same lowly footing with Dyack demonstrate clearly you have no comprehension whatsoever of the point I am making.
I was thinking the same thing.
dont you have to be a real developer to know what youre talking about? his credibility died with rare and thier mii360's.
What in the hell are you babbling about? Rare and mii60's whaa?? Edit: Nevermind, I understood what you were trying to say.
He's also the guy who started the Legacy of Kain and made Eternal Darkness(one of the best horror games ever). But no one remembers that...
I just about to give Denis the old tongue lashin'.Then you stepped in with some quick facts and shut me up. I appreciate that. Thank you.
Just stuck with Legacy of Kain. I want my PS3/360 Legacy of Kain! >:D
agreed, I want another legacy of kain and a finished too human with more the 5 levels and ps1 graphics.
that if he says something nice about the PS3 exclusive people will like him again. He maybe right, no body cared what he thought until he said something pro PS3, now look at him, he's in headlines.
I don't know, cult status or not, I thought eternal darkness sucked. I got 1/2 way through and stopped playing that game out of boredom.
that Heavy Rain is likely to be the same way.
You are mistaking Heavy Rain for Alan Wake. Look! I am chasing shadows around with a flashlight! Wheeee! I love going on a linear path!
Talk about the kiss of death.
That's hilarious. *still giggling*
Well, I'm glad that SOMEONE got the joke. Bubble
I did forget that. How I wish they would remake it.
Dyack's opinion is one among others.
First of all, this fat fúck should shut his piehole since he wasted 10 years of his life making a game wich is probably the worst this gen. Second, this WILL be a fantastic experience. No doubts.
was actually a pretty good game? Did you play it? I was shocked at how bad it was not, I think alot of the reviews were thinly veiled personal attacks on Dyack.
I don't care what this Dyack person has to say.
You clicked on the article though. You care.
I just wanted to share my opinion with everyone, I only clicked on it to leave a comment.
maybe the girl on heavy rain gave him a boner for the very first time on his life and thought she's too realistic to be a videogame character.... dyack have been owned by the power of the cell
Im happy Sony delayed Heavy Rain and M.A.G till 2010. Uncharted 2 and GT5 alone, ill sweep this year up! 2010: God of War 3, Agent, Modnation Racers, WKC, The Last Guardian, M.A.G, Quantum Theory, and Heavy Rain. LOL, and this is only the stuff thats been confirmed!
Wheres my PS3 Legacy of Kain & Soul Reaver. I played every one of the games especially Soul Reaver 1 & Defiance. I love that series. Bring It Back Dammit with Jet Moto & Bushido Blade. Who needs a life meter?
It is fantastic. I played it for 40 minutes at E3 and it was one of my top 4 games there. Simply memorable and remarkable.
You mean you actually 'played' it before coming to a conclusion on it's potential qualities? Interesting, believing and knowing are two different things I suppose. Wish I could have tried it......soon enough, soon enough =) @Spoony-Eternal Darkness you say?,I had completely forgotten about that often overlooked gem.A little repetitive but still a good game nonetheless.Good call =)
Didn't he also think that Too Human would be fantastic? Heavy Rain confirmed to suck by Dennis Dyack.
If it's similar to Indigo Prophecy then it will be fantastic since when IP released it was refreshing playing a game like no other, truly original. Heavy Rain will be a great, different, unique experience that I will welcome this generation.
Yeah, and the big yellow one is the sun.
from Goldeneye, to Perfect Dark, to Timesplitters and Second Sight, they were known for making excellent games. they make ONE mediocre game (HAZE), and they will NEVER be able to live it down. neither Dennis Dyack or Free Radical are at John Romero will "make you his b*tch" levels, but the gaming media and gamers certainly treat them like it. Eternal Darkness is one of my favorite games of last gen, as is Second Sight from Free Radical. it amazes me how quick people want to give Dyack a pass for his ridiculous statements, but Free Radical, which never really made any crazy claims after HAZE was poorly received and everytime someone mentions Free Radical, they highlight HAZE, instead of their numerous other gaming achievements and contributions (like being the core team of developers at RARE that crafted the seminal Goldeneye 64 and Perfect Dark, before leaving to form Free Radical and birthing Timesplitters, another critically praised series). i'm not saying you aren't right in your sentiment. in fact, i agree 100%, but i think it's only fair to point out the double standard when it's a developer that's made a Playstation 3 exclusive that's been poorly received like Too Human was.
