June NPD: Analysts Predict Fourth Consecutive Sales Decline - Software/Hardware Predictions

Citing the overall weakness in the economy, a relatively light release schedule and slow hardware sales arising from price fatigue, industry analysts expect NPD sales figures for June to show a fourth consecutive month of decline when they're released on Thursday evening.

Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter forecast US software sales of $670 million, down 23 per cent compared to last year's $876 million, while Jesse Divnich of EEDAR estimated $697 million, representing a 20 per cent decrease.

close to $700million dollars of business for one month. and people talk about one of the platform holders dropping out of the market...lol

as people quite ritely point out, "the usa doesn't equal the world"!, so it looks like the gaming industry is well over a $1 billion a month. aint no-one pulling away from a slice of that in a hurry.

Someone actually gets paid to say "it's the middle of a recession, there haven't been any significant price cuts and there's a lack of AAA titles this summer...so that's why sales are down."
