Heavy Rain pushed into 2010 by "crowded" Christmas

Heavy Rain will release in 2010 to give it "space to live" away from the hectic Christmas retail period, Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere has told GI.

JustinSaneV25555d ago (Edited 5555d ago )

GG Modern Warfare 2? Uncharted 2, Assassins Creed 2, & MAG probably don't help things either.

omni_atlas5555d ago

Yep, and also Assassins Creed 2, MAG, Uncharted 2, Gran Turismo (??) and for the PC people, Starcraft II (huge), Left 4 Dead 2

I really wish they would stop releasing everything in Nov. I'll be really broke then.

Raptor5555d ago

Its cool.

The only NEW game I'm buying this year is Uncharted 2.

Day 1.

Syronicus5555d ago

I for one am going to be purchaseing MW2 and Uncharted 2 day one and will be busy with them for weeks on end. Leaving Haevy Rain for the 2010 gaming months is fine by me.

heroicjanitor5555d ago

People buy them as presents since they recognise the name. New ips are swallowed up.

Hellsvacancy5555d ago (Edited 5555d ago )

I aint bothered about any of those games id MUCH rather hav Heavy Rain - thats not 2 say im not interested in the other game u listed its just im far more excited about playin Heavy Rain

@1.6 - STFU fanboy.

Good decision by Quantic Dream, I don't see Heavy Rain selling millions, because it's a very niche game, but I can guarantee that this game will be awesome no matter what. Indigo Prophecy was one of the best games last-gen, I'm a potential buyer, and I'm not on the fence. Day 1.

SL1M DADDY5554d ago

He's just another Xbox Fanboy that is upset that the PS3 has the best line up of games this holiday season. They can't help themselves when it comes to pure jealousy.

ThaOutKast5554d ago

@ SL1M DADDY
I Don't see why people say PS3 has the best line up this holiday i mean i Am looking forward to UNCHARTED 2 and R&C as much as anyone but i don't see how that is better than Halo3: ODST, Tropico 3, Forza Motorsport 3, Splinter Cell: Conviction and Left 4 Dead 2.

What you smoking on ?

N4PS3G5554d ago

in reality..Halo is going to kill everything this holiday ..so yeah ..wise decision

Syronicus5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

Did you just say Tropico 3? What is that exactly?

Palodios5554d ago

So they would rather hang out with White Knight, FF13, GOD OF WAR, and all the other big must haves in spring when there ISNT a holiday reason for people to buy their game? I do not believe that.

marinelife95554d ago

Hope that means Turismo is coming this fall instead.

LittleBigSackBoy5554d ago

Only if GT5 isn't released this year, and also if heavy rain released the same day as halo it wouldn't matter to PS3 only owners. so it wouldn't really effect its sales much.

dcbronco5554d ago

Funny they aren't changing that release date.

JustinSaneV25554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

Seeing as how FPS titles have a much better chance of selling high numbers I would say Heavy Rain wouldn't stand much of a chance this holiday season. That's especially true when you put it up in retail against the likes of Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, and other more well-known franchises that have a sequel coming out this holiday season it's not going to stand a chance. The casual market are going to swarm the "sure bets" that are the franchises they know about. A lot of parents (if they don't what specific games their children want) will simply ask what's popular and go with that. It's a wise decision on Sony's part to hold off on the game until next Spring or Fall where it's stand a better chance of having some limelight.

Everything is released in October/November. Summer releases are nearly inexistent or titles of lower quality (not AAA titles).

They should release those kinda games all year long so they wouldn't release at the same time...

dorron5555d ago

You know there are exceptions...

CobraKai5554d ago

I agree, I end up limiting the amount of games I get in the holiday. Play em enough to fully appreciate them then get the rest of the holiday games throughout the spring and summer with the money I get from Christmas. The only hard part is deciding which games to get first.

Jockamo5554d ago

It's not like Heavy Rain has been touted as a Mario World-esque game that appeals to those that do a majority of Christmas shoppers.

Indigo Prophecy has had a cult following for a reason: It's a game that is designed for a specific demographic--adult gamers. If anything, those are the gamers that will retreat into their shell during Q1 of 2010 to recoup losses from the holidays.

I don't think it would matter when they release it, though. It'll be a good game, one that this specific fan base is looking forward to...but probably one that won't gather steam until word gets out that it's good.

I would say that perhaps the sales isn't what they're worried about, but more about their competition financially during the heavy marketing saturation of Christmas time.

Oztheboss5555d ago

Good. Work on it, because my socks are required to be blown off when I play this.

thereapersson5555d ago

I understand the financial interest in releasing games during the holidays, but I think it can also be a bad thing. Many games have been overlooked in favor of larger, bigger-budget titles, or games that are in a series that is more well-known to the public.

xztence5555d ago

It would be a shame if quality titles like this would get swallowed up by big name franchises.

Qui-Gon Jim5554d ago

Niche titles like this can only be helped by being released when they don't have to go against big titles. I know if it was between this and Uncharted 2, I would be getting the latter first.

dcbronco5554d ago

At the same time moving it to a different time might not help at all. I believe it will be a niche title also. But Sony wants much more from this game. And the expense of making it demands so much more. Moving it from the Holiday season when money flows more freely might be a mistake. Plus more and more companies have been moving game to Tax season because sales spike for a month or two. It won't be alone.

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

BLAKHOODe1411d ago

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

sourOG1411d ago

No. Some games are like movies.

medman1411d ago (Edited 1411d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.

Have you played Detroit? While it’s my personal favorite, I fully understand many preferring Heavy Rain more. I’m glad you enjoyed Heavy Rain too.

bouzebbal1568d ago

def. one of my top 3 best experiences on PS3

ClayRules20121568d ago

bouzebbal

That’s awesome to hear! What’re the other 2 best experiences?

akaFullMetal1568d ago

Great game, need to get started on Detroit soon.

ClayRules20121568d ago

Glad you enjoyed the game! Yes, Detroit is a masterpiece of a game, and their best work to date “in my opinion”

ClayRules20121568d ago

Wow, 10 years...and yet, still one of the best/most emotional/thrilling gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

So grateful to Sony for believing in Quantic Dream’s vision for this game, and giving them a chance. I’ll never forget David Cage saying “We want to challenge the player, but not with the controller, but mentally, with their decisions of “How far would you go to save someone you love” Well, they broke my emotional gamer heart lol.

My teenage son refuses to play this game, because I’ve told him in little detail the emotional impact it had on me all those years ago. Maybe one day he will.

Still have my origami crane they teach you how to make when you're installing for the first time.

it's been 10 years? wow, that was so fast, I feel like this console gen went fast as well although it hasn't. I really look forward to the PS5 this holiday season though.
