How Google's Chrome OS might look (Mock Up)

Google's so far remained tight-lipped about what its Chrome OS will bring, but that hasn't stopped rampant speculation online, nor claims of having leaked versions installed.

I already run a Dual Boot of win XP and Ubuntu 9, I'll do a triple boot with Google OS just to see how it runs; anything to get rid of Windows once and for all.....just need to have my youtube downloader :D that's the only thing keeping me running Win xp otherwise I run Ubuntu

do new versions of youtube downloader download the actual file that's uploaded to youtube or some flv file?

internet download manager lets me download the actual file whether it's an avi, mov or whatever.

Ya it is. It uses the Linux kernel, but thats about as far as it will go most likely. Google , from what I have read, are making their own desktop environment, file manager and all that jazz.

well since the source has yet to be open sourced, i'm assuming that it is not based on linux, i really hope so tho coz that way application support for linux will be much greater if google does something about it!

as for chrome OS being a flop, i doubt that very much, simply coz google has the money to get people to work with them, many big brands including acer, asus, hp and toshiba amongst others.. these 4 i just mentioned are ALL big names when it comes to hardware manufacturing so you can guess what they will most likely do..

so how many other O's can you name besides windows linux and mac osx?

yup same with the Wii.. Nintendo took a VERY big risk releasing motion controllers as standard, and it turned out to be the biggest system seller!

I don't think you should compare consoles to an OS. My concern is...given that most consumers are not necessarily power users, why would they even feel the need to try out something new and different...that does not have the track history of the Microsoft OS. Just wondering outside of netbooks, how will Google penetrate the market with content microsoft os users.

remember this isnt the first time other companys have tried to get out from ms yoke hp was considering it but lacked the resources, if chrome os gets industry support it may have game support nativly if it does that then ms could be in for some rough times

Google do have a tendancy to keep things user friendly so I imagine their O/S will be the same. If you want to try an alternative to windows, and like me you no longer game on PC, then this could be an easier to use option than Linux. PC O/S is definately in need of some competition I for one would like to see Apple throw in with a PC version of their O/S.

Not much has changed since Windows 95. XP was nice but still not much of a change and honestly, shouldn't Windows be so much faster to boot up and load by now which it isn't. If MS had serious competition then I'm sure the PC OS of today would be much better. Just look at interent browsers. It's nice to have options and I'm sure many do not use IE anymore. Google has a huge climb ahead but they have so much money to be able to weather the storm that it is possible to one day come out with a commercial OS for the masses to rival MS'. They would also need to make it a viable gaming platform which is easy to develop for. I hope Google succeeds.

Windows and most OS's have sucked balls since they left 3.1 ( the last good one)
and went for bloated graphics heavy, slow piles of sh1t.
That goes for apple too btw.
Now if google can go back to low level, light weight, fast as f()ck OS that works well, I'm in.
The greatest thing would be if someone (Google or anyone) could get game developers to make a game on anything else instead of Direct X (poo) and Windows. But until that ever happens, MS will continue to dominate. I still don't know how it's even legal that the company that makes the OS, and the hardware company's work hand in hand to make there crap. (ATi, Nvidia).
And yes, I know about open GL, but somehow MS has convinced the gaming world that Direct X is how you make games. :(

If my animation and graphics apps will run on chrome os i'm switching. I had to buy a pc when i got into 3d animation and it's not bad but i would like to be MS free.
