The Portable Gamer: Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled Review

The Portable Gamer writes: "I must stress the fact that, despite Black Sigil's shortcomings, I have found this to be an immensely enjoyable RPG experience; more enjoyable than some more recent big-budget RPGs that I shall not name. It's easy to nit-pick the failings. But, if you dig past these small frustrations, you will find a fantasy world full of adventure, danger, and memorable characters. The combat is fun and engaging because of the amount of strategy involved in each encounter. Buy Black Sigil if you want a great throwback RPG from the 16-bit era. Fans of Chrono Trigger or other retro RPG titles should not pass this up".

Great review.. looks like an awesome RPG for me to grab for my DS thanks!

looks alright, might not be too good for hardcore RPG fans though

It is made for oldschool RPG fans. If you're not into lots of random encounters, this probably isn't for you.

bugs and crashes = not cool.. I hope that crap doesn't happen with mine

Neco5125779d ago

if the game crashes and you lose a save file, it could mean the end of your experience with it. For me anyway.

I dunno. Seem pretty rare online.

From what I've seen on various forums, the crashes are rare. But if it does happen, it's pretty persistent. If it happens to you, I'd contact Graffiti Entertainment about it. I'm sure they'll take all claims seriously.

TRB: Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled Review

TRB writes: "Old school role playing games seem to be the sure hit on the Nintendo DS. The simple gameplay is easy for portable gaming and the time to complete these games is either double or triple the length of modern games. Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled offers the style of gameplay that fans of the most praised game on the SNES will jump right into and find plenty to love."

GameShark: Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled Review

GameShark writes: "Late last year, Chrono Trigger DS came along and reminded players how great 2D RPGs used to be. Unfortunately, it also had another unintended effect: making Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled look like a unimaginative carbon copy. Even though it's a delightfully detailed and colorful RPG, Black Sigil lifts the entirety of its graphical style, character movements, and overall aestetic directly from Crono's adventure. While imitation is the highest form of flattery, this modern day retro revival is reserved for hardcore enthusiasts only".
