PSP Go: the iPhone and iTouch competitor

Nometet.com "Sony America's PR manager, Al De Leon, has stated that the new PSP Go could allow development of other types of applications from both a gaming and non-gaming angle, like that seen on the iPhone or iTouch. With this announcement, this week, could this mean that the days of the Apple's monopoly over the handheld multimedia experience is coming to an end?"

With the iPhone recently having a price cut, has the gimped "premium" product really got a chance?

You have the PSP-3000 that won't be discontinued and the new PSP Go. I believe Sony is trying to have the PSP-3000 battle the DSi and the PSP Go battle the Ipod. Don't forget guys, a 16GB Ipod is $299, $50 more than a PSP Go. Buy.com has a 16GB M2 card for $60. So for $310 you can have a 32GB PSP Go, $10 more than a 16GB Ipod.

Sony has realized how much Apple is making with people playing games on their Ipod and Iphone, Sony naturally wants a piece of the pie. So off the back people who do not have a PSP currently might consider getting a PSP Go. The people who DO have a PSP currently will need to be further convinced.

I think if Sony did their version of the Apple's App Store to put in the PSN that would convince people to upgrade.

Dude, do you just keep copying and pasting that into every article?

It's getting weird.:S

Noobkilla the 16 gig is 199. I know I just bought it. Granted you need a contract but I am a firefighter and get a discount so in the end it's a cheaper plan then I had before and 3g is actually good. I own the PSP 3000 and love it to death. Plus (fun fact) The new Iphones can play movies. Many of the blurays I bought for PS3 have digital copies. I currently have The incredible hulk, The dark knight and Walle on my phone and it's about 1/3 full with all the music and other stuff I have as well. So imo for a compact, good quality phone with way more options and bells and whistles then the PSP. I love my PSP don't get me wrong. Without it I would never have been able to enjoy Chains of Olympus and many other amazing games. but for all around usefulness (And cost value) the Iphone is better

The DSi also has non-gaming apps. The majority are crap but everyone's waiting for Flipnote Studio. I reckon Sony will copy it if it's a success.

Can the browser handle google voice?

If so, you have a free phone when you have wifi

the browser of psp can barely handle anything - it is a painful to use.

for this reason alone the psp can never compete with the ipod touch

Underrated? J&D was one of the most popular IPs at the time, quite literally the face of the ps2 beside God of War

Outside_ofthe_Box1d 8h ago

Would love to see a open world Jak 4 on the PS5, would be amazing, but I know ND said they'd never do it.

purple1011d 6h ago (Edited 1d 6h ago )

apparently there is a movie being made. I just cant get my head around what Sony is doing recently,

In regards to cancelling twisted metal game, when they push ahead with series 2 of the tv show, surely she show is meant to promote the game, where the real profits can be made.

Now we hear of a Jan and daxter film, (an old ps2 game) but NO new game to go with it,

mind boggles:

Sony Pictures, PlayStation Productions Releases & In Production:

• TV Shows:

-HBO: The Last Of Us Season 1
-Peacock: Twisted Metal Season 1
-HBO: The Last Of Us Season 2 & 3
-Netflix: Horizon
-Peacock: Twisted Metal Season 2
-Amazon Prime: God Of War
-Disney+: Films/TV Shows
-Hulu: Films/TV Shows

• Movies:

-Uncharted
-Gran Turismo
-Ghost Of Tsushima
-Jak And Daxter
-Gravity Rush
-Until Dawn
-Uncharted 2

I wasn't aware that ND said they'd never do it...

I know they said it would difficult for them to go back to it after doing super high fidelity, gritty, realistic stuff like Last of Us but I didn't think they'd ruled it out completely.

Outside_ofthe_Box12h ago

They didn't say never, but was basically what they said. They actually tried making a new Jak, but what they were making was straying far from it's roots so they canned it. They're just in a different mindset when it comes to developing games compared to when they made Jak.

Jak and dexter is known franchise Sly Cooper was more hidden one tbh.

darthv7210h ago

...and he was trying to stay hidden because he was a thievius racoon.

Demetrius7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

Seeing jak&d left in the past like that really makes me appreciate nintendo even more for atleast keeping mario, zelda, metroid, and others around while making em still feel fresh, Playstation should have another gem besides astroboy and ratchet&clank

i wouldnt call jack and daxter underrated.

its a beloved franchise that pretty much was one of the biggest games on the ps2 and psp

Persona and SMT , duh

Yui_Suzumiya4d ago

Eternights, Noctuary, SMT, Soul Hackers, Tokyo Mirage Sessions

Pyrofire953d ago

If you like Persona but hate yourself then play Conception.
"The player's goal is to charm girls from National Star God Academy, raise their affection for Itsuki, then produce and take the Star Children to explore dungeons and battle Impurities"
Hit on girls then put your "energy" into them and they'll "produce" "Star Children"
Then you send your children into dungeons or something. IDK.

Pretty good list. Botany Manor would be the newest addition that encapsulates that title.
