A new Xbox 360 hack that was released recently allow players to edit their gamertag, add achievements and change their gamerscore.

I heard about this a week or two back and I facepalmed hard. As if people thinking achivements/trophies make you "important" or "good at videogames", NOW there is a new form of loser that takes it a step forward to cheat this fake Epene #.

I'd like a free gamertag change every year. I'm fed up of getting messages telling me to file a complaint against their gamertag so they can change it, I got one just this morning. Also does that actually work?

You should be able to change your gammer tag for free, but altering your gamer score or achievements is stupid. If you can't earn something without cheating then it's just not for you.

Maybe limiting the amount of times you can change it for a year is fine. If you pay for the service, what comes with it should not cost you extra though.

My brother has changed his gamertag over twenty times... yes he has spent 200$+ on changing his name. I have yet to change my gamertag since 360 launched.

If you can not earn it then whats the point. I do not really mind them changing their gamertag, but the rest...they are going against XBox Live Users' Agreement, so in turn they will have their account suspended. Meaning, they will lose money (paid subscription).

It's like the people who do the hack for Gears 2 for automatic level 100. They go into games think that people are going to be intimidated, but everyone knows that its a hack. Those same users find that their gamerscore has been reset to 00000. :)

charging is a deterrent because the constant changing of names would muck up the system, they don't really want you changing the name which is why they charge for it

the less people that do it the smoother the system works

constant changing of identities would eventually slow the system or crash it from the sheer amount of database queries it would execute on a daily bases if people were allowed to changes names at will

look at sites like myspace and how much people change their display name, now take that and add on top the general caliber of IQ deficient beings roaming xbox live

free name changes wouldn't be good for any of us

Do it like Steam and stuff where you have a user ID that you can't change. And then a player ID that you can change when ever you want.

just like all heirachal file storage systems, your profile on xbl is stored under your account. the key here is that that's usually some alphanumeric heading, so messing with your gamertag won't screw that up. also your licenses for content you've purchased are associated with your account on xbl, so to me i would believe that changing your gamertag wouldn't affect the network or the databases at all. the constant read/writes through the network to and from your xbox 360 and the xbox live servers even still wouldn't be enough for concern.

i just think they want to deter evil doers. then again, your gamertag really can't do much for you even if you were able to change it like 99 times...

Achievements are pretty much pointless now. I mean of course you would get banned if you put a bunch of achievements on there within a day because then they know that you cheated. If you used it in moderation like other people have by just adding a few achievements each time or so then you won't get caught because they will be spaced out between the time/day that you get them to avoid detection.

Good thing you can't hack trophies (you also can't pirate PS3 games). Kind of pointless going for achievements these days (and people have been cheating for quite a while but and i'm surprised that this got shown so late).

1. On Xbox.com sign into your account.
2. Click your gamertag
3. Click manage profile
4. click Privacy Settings
5. Under played games press block or friends only.

1st Why would it matter so much to hide your gamerscore? Do you have something to hide? Looking to claim something that you did in a game when you really didn't? And why in hell would you want to disable them? Why are you so angry with them and hate them so much to wanna disable them?

The reason for Achievements is for replay value. Games that wouldn't normally get rented or bought now are because there have achievements. And the companies that are small and don't have the resources to create blockbuster AAA atleast now have a fighting chance to turn a profit so that their studios can build and then make bigger games.

but.. how can you be proud of a gamerscore that you paid for? I have a gs of 12,000.. not that amazing, but at least i can say i earned it. I think eventually people hacking achievements will want to revert to their legitimate scores because adding a legit 200p achievement to a 1,654,343,343 score just won't have the same pizazz anymore.
