5 Best Wii Games for Under Twenty Dollars

The explosive popularity of the Nintendo Wii has led to an inevitable deluge of crappy shovelware titles that claim to be fun uses of the Wii's unique features but ultimately turn out to be nothing but vapid attempts at cashing in on the system's success. Because of this malignant multitude, it can be difficult for a value-conscious gamer to find budget games that are worth playing.

Fortunately, there are a few quality low-cost Wii gems out there to be found, gamers just need a filter to avoid the large number of crappy games out there.

Wow, wasn't expecting much from this guide, but the guy absolutely NAILED it!

All are fantastic games. I'm very happy about the inclusion of Mercury Meltdown Revolution and Geoemtry Wars: Galaxies.

Muckbeast5314d ago

Agreed. That is a really spot on article. Lists like this are tough to do, but the writer did an excellent job.

GWAVE5313d ago

Nice to see Zack & Wiki on the list. I know it wasn't everyone's favorite, but the old-school point-and-click adventure gamer inside me couldn't get enough of it.

EvilTwin5313d ago

You can buy No More Heroes for $20 now (heck, isn't in bundled with the original Red Steel now?), and it definitely belongs on that list. Problem is, I'm not sure what game to take out to make room.

jpymai5313d ago

That is always the challenge with lists like this. The next 5 left off are usually pretty good choices as well.

placebo435313d ago

No More Heroes is another good one. Guess it just comes down to personal preference. Not everyone is going to like Mercury, but they might want to check out No More Heroes, for sure.

SpoonyRedMage5313d ago

There's plenty of good deals in HMV right now(there's a sale on). I saw Dragon Quest Sword for £12, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for £17, No More Heroes and House of the Dead 2 and 3 were both in a two for £30 deal.

Muckbeast5313d ago

Direct2Drive has a lot of titles available for $5 as well which is just insane.

Not that many months ago, Wii was in my opinion still at second place when it came to games. But in recent months, PS3 has overtaken Wii. I haven't had the urge to buy a single Wii title in months and don't see myself buying one for months to come. I think Nintendo ought to address this problem.

FreestyleBarnacle5706d ago

But then you'll miss out on deBlob. How will you fill that hole in your life? More importantly how will the game be able to take that kind of rejection?

jtucker785706d ago

I agree with the top nine, but it's a shame there are so many poor games making up the rest of the top twenty eight.

And it's a shame that there were several decent ports of last generation games (Okami, RE4, Bully) but no decent ports of current gen games.

Voiceofreason5706d ago

It's Gamepro and they hate the Wii. I'm sure this is a crappy list. Lets be honest, you couldnt even come up with 28 games for PS3 that are worth owning. Same for Wii. Its just their way of trying to make the console look bad.

funkysolo5706d ago

The wii is not competeing for the same gamers. I just bought my kids a wii, it's a fun little system. I don't think anyone would trade their PS3 or 360 for it. The wii has different games that appeal to people that would normally not play games. Just look at who's buying the wii, Soccor moms, older people and that's why the wii sells a ton, because they hit the mainstream public. PS3 and 360 is still a hardcore game system. From my experiance comparing the wii and PS3 is like comparing apples and oranges, different gamers

28. Order Up! - a cooking game…. Wow
27. Mercury Meltdown Revolution - a pinball game?
26. Blast Works: Trade, Build, Destroy - what?
25. Geometry Wars: Galaxies - a game already available on XBLA… for cheaper… and in HD
24. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles - a rail shooter game. But it is RE
23. Trauma Center Second Opinion - a DS rehash
22. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - this is one of the best Wii games? Not even mentioned for “best games” for those ACTUAL games systems like 360 and PS3
21. Rock Band - virtually same as GHIII
20. Bully - a rehashed PS2 game
19. Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn - a decent RPG, probably deserves to be on this list actually
18. LEGO Star Wars: Complete Saga - on every other system
17. WarioWare: Smooth Moves - bunch of mini games
16. Wii Fit - a $90 work out video
15. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King - a good start for WiiWare
14. LostWinds - never heard much about it…
13. Wii Sports - bowling is fun, but Christ this isn’t really a “game”, this comes with the system
12. Mario Kart Wii - virtually the same as every other Mario Kart game
11. Mario Strikers Charged - a soccer game? Really?
10. Boom Blox - I’ve heard some good things, seems fun
09. No More Heroes - seems like a good game. I’ve heard good things
08. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - a lot like the others, but if it’s good it’s good
07. Okami - a rehashed PS2 game
06. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - a lot like the previous Smash Bros. games
05. Zach & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure - sounds like a Nickelodeon characters and Pirates of the Caribbean combined. LOL that might be good?
04. Super Paper Mario - a lot like previous Paper Mario games…
03. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - a lot like previous Zelda games…
02. Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition - a rehashed PS2 game…
01. Super Mario Galaxy - duh… not “original” in a full sense, but great game

I don't mean to hate on Nintendo, but they've really disappointed me this gen (and with the Gamecube...). and while people complain about the numerous crap games, they should also note how many games for the Wii are rehashes of other systems or are just a bunch of mini games (Wii Sports, WarioWare, Order Up!...).

Nintendo, please for the sake of your fans (true fans... not these "Wii fans") take a break. save up your millions from the Wii and really make a great system for next gen. recover, or give it up.

...but you wont because you looooooove making money off foolish parents

Wii gaming on a budget

TVGB: "2009 looks set to be a great year for Wii gamers with titles like The Conduit and MadWorld scheduled for release, but there's been no better time to try out those games you may have missed the first time around because you were too busy Brawling and Galaxy-hopping to care. Even better, many of these games are now available for bargain prices, sometimes as low as $10! Is there anything more satisfying than getting a great game at a great price?"
