Microsoft adds Windows Messenger chat to Xbox 360

Microsoft has announced the imminent release of an update to Xbox 360 that will let users of the games console chat via Windows Live Messenger direct from their television sets.

From 7 May, the Xbox 360 Spring Update will provide all Xbox 360 users with access to Windows Live Messenger features so that they can instant message with up to six people on other Xbox consoles, PCs or Windows Mobile handhelds while continuing to play games, listen to music or watch a movie.

Console users can already use voice and video chat over the Xbox Live network and the new software will integrate contact lists so users will see at a glance if their Windows Live Messenger contacts have gamertags, enabling them to set-up online games

I'm not starting a flamebait war here... but seriously if you don't own a 360 (which I do) already and have a pretty good PC... why buy a 360?

Halo is on PC.. and soon so will Gears

TheMART4265d ago (Edited 4265d ago )

Ofcourse you do own one. Duh come on.

Having games like Halo 3, Forza 2, Gears of War... And others like Bioshock, Assassins Creed, GTA4.

Yeah you can play some on the PC. But to have the great visuals you need to upgrade every year and spend a couple of grant. I don't know about you but I rather want to game with a WiFi controller from my couch on a 32 inch HDTV then behind a dull desk and a keyboard on a 19 inch LCD monitor.

So why buy a PS3 when it is said to be a computer by barbie Ken himself? Your PC does all that stuff, RIGHT?

@ Randomlee (below)

most people don't have or want their PC to be in their living room. They have the PC at their desk/work/studyspace.

At least, I don't know ANYONE with a PC in the livingroom. Except a laptop maybe. But no big fat gaming PC in a huge tower, like mine is with watercooling.

So lets say in most cases the PC is on a monitor and the console is in the living room on a big ass HDTV

For the games?

not all 360 games are coming to PC :)

Ban Me4265d ago (Edited 4265d ago )

As Sie said, not all types of games appear on the PC. Some because there's no market, and some because they simply do not translate that well... amongst other reasons.

Plus some people like the ease of use for consoles... just pop the game in and play. No messing around with device settings, re-intalling drivers, hardware conflict, the constant need to upgrade etc, etc.

There's obviously a lot more to it than that but it's a pointless arguement that has no real place here so I'll leave it a that.

Anyway, isnt this old news? We were told about the update and all it's new features a good few days ago now. Apologies if this info was not included however.

Also, @Mart... my PC is connected to the same HDTV as my 360 so I get the pleasure of viewing both in all their glory. I only swicth back to the 19" LCD for stuff like photoshop where I need to be closer to the screen.

And please, lets not let this topic decent into a 360 vs PC vs PS3 debate. Save it for the school playground if you really have to bicker about it.

You buy a 360 because you want to play Halo 3 or Gears of War now and on the platform it was build for, and not a PC port in 2-3 years. And not all 360 exclusive games will be on Pc.

Live Messenger is a nice addition too ;)

If you don't get it now or understand then you never will! The question should be why buy a PS3 when all the games come to 360 and for some reason look better lol! This is a great feature to add and gives 360 an extra point in the right direction!

Simple answer toa simple Question.

Consoles will never die, becasue they will allow you to play a top notch game with great graphics without spending your hard-earned money everytime a new PC card comes out, like every 6 months.

Pc games continue to push the barriers of PC Videocard card Technology. you can own a console and know you don't have to upgrade much for atleast 5-6 years(I like that strategy), or a Sony claim 10+ years.(yeah good one SONY, when Nvidia 13000GTX + DirectX13 is out in 3 years)

You get more "BANG" for your "BUCKS". Now if you don't mind "Downgrading" your PC games becasue your card can't handle the way the game was meant to be played then that's your poragative. If you have the money to upgrade every 6 months, then so be it, lucky you, stick to a PC, and get off the Consoles.

Ok I was just asking.. I'm all about consoles..

One of my biggest gripes before about console and PC's were I rather play in my living room in comfort on bigger screen TV, then behind a desk on a smaller computer monitor.

But there's no doubt that PC's are making their way to the living room, and with outputs for tv's (in HD). So things will change.

But I will agree with you about the games just being ports.

Was just asking....

But I play more games on the 360 because, well no matter how you slice it, a console is optimized for gaming for under $700. And I won't have to upgrade the 360.
