Sony: God of War III could only have been done on PS3

iTWire spoke to Michael Ephraim, Chief Executive, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia and New Zealand in reaction to the Sony E3 announcements. He talked about the new PlayStation Portable support, how surprised he – like many - was about Final Fantasy XIV and how God of War III can only be done on the PlayStation 3.

even in the demo that Huge Titans in the back looked impressive and there was no frame rate drops or slow downs... thats pretty amazing stuff , and the graphics looked good already and will get better when near completion.

LoL first it was Heaven Sword, GT5:P, Uncharted, Resistance 1&2, MGS4, KZ2, inFAMOUS, Uncharted2, HEAVY RAIN and now GOW3. Man Sony is leading the pack when it comes to unrivalved AAA exclusives believe it. Then we have games like GT5, The last Guardian, The Agents(exclusive), War Devil and many more on the way. Hell even Rachet couldn't be done on any other console lol.

Processing power claimed, not because its' exclusive and im starting to believe them on THIS one.

The amount of fodder characters on screen that Kratos can tear through is huge.
The Titans in the background as actual, polygon built, creatures and not just video backdrops.
1080p at 60fps (variable, dips as low as 30) on a action game this polished while Bayonette dev JUST claimed it was too hard/unreasonable for this gen of consoles

Im just saying, "what on 360, released or announced to be released, compares?"
If that new multiplatform Castlevania can do 1080p native and 60fps i'll exclude GOWs Titans and characters on screen and say they were bullsh!tting after all.

Oh i definately believe this. God of War 3 has scale never before seen in a game before. They actually render Titans at the size of the Sears tower while you are playing on them. Anyone complaining about the graphics in God of War 3 really has no clue how much processing these things require. It is amazing the the game can have such enormous Scale and yet have great graphics and 60fps most of the time. The sickest part is that the game is supposed to run at 1080p when it launches in March. The engineers at Sony Santa Monica are the best in the world. They are fully utilizing the PS3 just as Naughty Dog is doing. No i dont think we will ever see a game like this running on 360.

They are telling us that the 360 could handle God of War 3, and you know what? I believe them. That game looks amazing.

You know what else? It doesn't really matter. There were a ton of things that the Xbox could do that the PS2 couldn't. But PS2 still got killer titles and they were both fun to play. Same goes for now days, they're both fun to play.

Of course it can only be done on the PS3. You own the IP and it's being done by your studio. These types of claims are losing their impact and are claims that can never be verified because they will never even have a chance to be made on any other system. Keep in mind Sony is a Japanese company, what we see as over doing it or going to far, or beating a dead horse, they may see as simply reinforcing a marketing theme.

That is one of the things I have always hated about Sony, they don't always understand their non Japanese customers, and for a long time they didn't care to. They are getting better, but they still come off a little arrogant and stupid at times.

And it looks really good, but my first thought immediately was "This looks good, but not that different really from GoW 2".

On closer inspection, it does indeed look very good. But I wrote it before, you have to see Bayonetta in action. Its level of detail is top notch, but it also runs at a rock solid 60fps. It takes the cake in the action genre right now from what I saw.

Im a huge GoW fan, and think the game looks awesome. But from a pure technical standpoint, Bayonetta is just ridiculous.

You dont have to believe it one bit. Ive seen them all for myself and that was my honest assessment. I played UC2 co-op, and I for one wasnt all that wowed by it. Perhaps its not done, I cant say, but thats what they had on the floor.

The first UC got knocked for jaggies as well, so this is nothing new. I for one can over look that, and think they have done a good job artistically. But talking from a pure tech standpoint, its not above and beyond. I was definitely more impressed with some of the other games on display from that standpoint.

GoW 3 is highly anticipated for me. but Im not gonna lie and say that Bayonetta wasnt more impressive visually. Even 1up gave it the Action game of E3 award, and that was after I had been on here raving about it. Obviously Im not the only one that saw it that way.

Prototype was insanely fun to play, but the graphics are a 8-8.5 at best. But at the same time, as one of the devs there told me, they sacrificed some graphic fidelity for super smooth gameplay (which it def has) and a HUGE amount of stuff going on at once. The sheer amount of people, vehicles, and debris in that game all going on at once is staggering. The reviews will reflect that Im sure, just wait and see.

But I have noticed that you sir are definitely a big Sony fan, so you of course think ALL Sony exclusives are just superior. So there is no reasoning with that.

god of war III is pretty, but hack and slash with giant monsters and quicktime events, that sort of game is not limited to one console. this "only can be done on the PS3" surely makes people feel good, but its starting to wear thin, as if they have to keep reminding us how powerful the PS3 is. Its a powerful machine that produces amazing graphics and yet this generation that still is not enough to pull them out of last place. All slavish devotion bores me.

These games can't be done on an Xbox 360. Sure, they could make another game and call it GOWIII. The could cut down on the number of enemies on the screen, and lower the resolution to sub-HD levels, and stop the entire level from moving (I don't mean the stuff in the level; I mean the level itself), and cut a couple of hours from the the gameplay, and put the result on another platform and call this result GOWIII but it wouldn't be the same experience.

People should just face the facts. The PS3 charges a higher price in return for better performance and Sony is giving people what they pay for.

When they say "only possible on ps3" they are speaking in terms of quality. Crysis could be done on consoles but not up to the same quality as the pc version. That's why Crytek is making an engine that will work on the consoles. So in essence GOW3 could be done on the 360 but sacrifices would be made so it wouldn't be the same game.
