IGN: E3 2009: Sony Booth Report

Sony came to E3 2009 with one of its biggest showings in years. PlayStation fans will get a new PSP, a motion controller, a new Fumito Ueda game (The Last Guardian), a new Final Fantasy MMO, and the Rockstar North exclusive Agent. On top of that Sony showed real gameplay demos from God of War 3, MAG, and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. It was these three games that served as the center of gravity for Sony' booth.

As Jack Tretton mentioned in Sony's E3 Media Briefing, Sony is pushing its free-to-use PlayStation Network as a service to woo hardcore gamers. Wide banks of monitors with MAG and Uncharted 2's competitive multiplayer were at the literal center of Sony's booth.

The story is too old to be commented.

From the article: "I'm still not sure what went into the decision to bring competitive multiplayer to a franchise whose primary reputation was based on a sharply written and lushly animated single player experience. "

And yet, w/o multiplayer, the game would get marked down across the board, again, for lack of replayability and multiplayer option. What I've said all along, Naughty Dog is damned if they do and damned if they don't.
