Heavy Rain Not Coming Until Late 2010?

The lack of Quantic Dream´s appearance at Sony´s E3 briefing certainly left a few people concerned. Heavy Rain is quite possibly, if not the most, one of the most anticipated games of 2009 so it is really baffling as to why Sony didn´t show-boat it. Gametrailers allegedly confirmed that the release of Heavy Rain had been pushed back until sometimes in 2010 and the fact that this heavy title was not even shown in the 2009/2010 lineup has got me leaning towards a late 2010 release.

The story is too old to be commented.

G4 spoke with David Cage at E3 and he said EARLY 2010. Also, just recently when they showed off the new footage just before E3 he was saying they're right on schedule with everything so I do think that's when we can expect it.

PeterPanParadox3424d ago

That is what Rockstar said about GTA4, as well. Lets just hope you are right. :)

Vicodin3424d ago

Quantic Dreams isn't faced with the nightmare of gimping their game to fit on the stupid Xbox 360 7gig DVD format that caused the six month delay of GTA4...

Hellsvacancy3424d ago (Edited 3424d ago )

If it means the game will b polished and up2 scratch ill wait as long as they want me2 (hopin it aint 2long) :-)

FiLTHY ESKiMO3424d ago

Isn´t it 9Gig? Rockstar also announced that they were having difficulty with the PS3 version. :-S But yeah, this game would be impossible to fit on DVD9.

GiantEnemyCrab3424d ago

Vicodin does your BS ever stop?

So tired of hearing this misinformation. You want to blame any failing of GTA4 on something? Blame it on the PS3 development meat grinder.

Anyway, I'm not surprised that HR could be delayed. Quantic are doing a lot with this game.

Kleptic3424d ago

Easy crab...

http://www.ripten.com/2007/...

your articles left out the entire story...Rockstar also stated that making the game work on the 360, not having an available HDD on every system, was also a massive challenge...

but in either case...that entire point is moot...the game is out, and fell under most people's expectations regardless of review scores...

i'll leave it with quotes from IGN's review...

"For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud."

jammy_703423d ago

it'll be out in 09.... bo**ocks!
these dates of game releases are always wrong... i think i believe this...

RememberThe3573423d ago

The holidays are already packed with games. They should save this one for spring or summer when people will be more open to new IP's.

Rigmaster3423d ago

"Isn´t it 9Gig?"

Not even close. The 360's disc format isn't even 7 gigabytes. It's something like 6.8 or so.

You have to have nothing but sympathy for the Rockstar devs who had to gimp their game into the Xbox 360 disc format that was over a gig smaller than last gen's GTA games had. The lack of a standard harddrive to less the storage problem was just salt in the wounds.

That's the beauty of PS3 exclusives. 25 or 50 gigabyte BluRay and insane graphics power.

MGSR THE HD VERSION3423d ago (Edited 3423d ago )

do people even know how much graphics and gameplay takes up in terms of space. the next crisis on PC is still going to be on a 8 gb dvd, and that game is going to be murdering people's setups.

why don't we just be honest here.

GiantEnemyCrab3423d ago (Edited 3423d ago )

Kleptic: Okay, they both presented a challenge but fitting it onto DVD9 was not the reason for the 6 month delay. It doesn't make him any less of a FUD spreader. (believe me this isn't the first time or I wouldn't of sounded so harsh, I mean were talkin Nasim here).

http://www.shacknews.com/on...

Another good article with the quote from Rockstar.

"Rockstar product development VP Jeronimo Barerra has revealed that technical issues with the PS3 were partly to blame for last fall's delay of Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3, X360)."

For every negative GTA article you can paste I can paste one stating the opposite.

http://www.videogamer.com/f...

"Much has been made of the pop-in seen in the Xbox 360 game, but it's a minor problem that most gamers won't even notice. What is more significant is the roughness of the PS3 game, which came as quite a surprise after spending an awful lot of time with the 360 game. You won't be disappointed with either, but if you're only interested in the visuals we'd definitely recommend you buy the 360 game."

We could probably go back and forth on this one.

I do not agree that most people found it below their expectations. But then again you might of been around people playing the PS3 version. The game was excellent and I was a big San Andreas fan. If you got the L&D DLC it was an even better game.

Anyway, this is old news but the 360 was not the sole reason for delay.

Troll-Killer3423d ago

No, you're wrong as well...stop getting your info. from Vicodin. :o

The 360 game disc isn't a custom size; it's a Dual Density 9 gig DVD. However, no game to date, has filled a disc...not even GTA4 or Oblivion. Gears came the closest, at about 7.9 gigs. :)

Rigmaster3423d ago

You don't even know that the 360 has some 1.5 gigs or so of useless security or something that wastes a good portion of the disc. Boggle.

Yep, welcome to three years ago. The 360 has less storage space per disc than the PS2 and Xbox had last gen.

Troll-Killer3423d ago (Edited 3423d ago )

Yes, I'm aware of the typical buffer space...which isn't over 2 gigs, like you suggested in your earlier post....but you stated the disc itself was less than 8 gigs...which it isn't. Details, kiddo, details. ;)

And no, the PS2 and Xbox used SD DVD 4.5 gig discs last gen. Again...try to watch those details. :)

Agent VX3423d ago

Wow, this is shocking news...

I believe this is the first time I have seen anything to do with the PS3 be delayed.

Rigmaster3423d ago

The PS2 used dual layer DVDs last gen.

The Xbox 360 has 6968MB of usable disc space - not even 7 gigabytes, significantly smaller than the PS2 had last gen.

Anything you need correcting about?

Why dis3423d ago

Its probably because they need to keep the technical hype rolling amongst the fanboys and Sony supporters but did not wan't to turn off the masses with its unappealing gameplay.

SaberEdge3423d ago

I think Heavenly Sword has a lot of potential and the wait is going to be hard for some.

That is part of why I think Microsoft had a better E3 showing. It seems like most of the games Sony showed either had no release date or were reported as 2010 releases. Microsoft showed more games that will be available this year.

In the end though, I can wait for it if it is going to be a good game and it is looking like it is going to be a good game. Indigo Prophecy was a good game anyway.

Megatron083423d ago

at the rate ps3 games are getting delayed they arent going to have any games left for the holidays

Alvadr3423d ago

My money is on a fall 2010 release and it wouldnt surprise me if it was pushed into 2011

JokesOnYou3423d ago (Edited 3423d ago )

So all those *early Jan-Feb 2009 games list we saw posted by sony loyalists on n4g seem to look a bit different *AFTER E3. Suddenly as expected (by 360 owners) 360 2009 lineup has grown, while ps3 lineup seems to be shrinking. I guess by late 2009 once again n4g will be saturated with "2010 the yr of ps3" predictions, and thus the cycle continues. lmfao

JOY

thesummerofgeorge3423d ago

They had a special presentation with G4 after the conference and said early 09... Get your facts straight and you won't need to "lean toward" anything.... not to say they won't push it back down the line, but they weren't absent from E3, and they did give a time of release.

Syronicus3423d ago

Take your time developers. Don't rush the game to the market for sales sake. Make it right and please the gamers, in the end, we will reap the benefits.

callahan093423d ago

Yeah, this article is pure speculation - nothing to see here. Sony didn't show a lot of their games during their keynote. I mean Ratchet & Clank didn't have a live presentation, that's coming this fall. White Knight Chronicles is coming early 2010, didn't have an on-stage presentation for it. Demon's Souls, coming this fall, wasn't talked about at all, like it didn't even exist (a shame that SCEA is ignoring that one because it's personally my favorite PS3 game).

ohh men am getting tired of waiting, i just hope they dont push GT5 to next year

Automat3424d ago

Modern Warfare 2 has a release date set. so does bioshock 2. the only reason neither GT5 og HR were mentioned are due to their 2010 release plan.

Kleptic3424d ago

there is no chance of GT5 coming out in 2009, if that is what you meant...

the PSP GT confirmed that...

-EvoAnubis-3424d ago

They only had two hours and three platforms to cover. It's not like they could have everything. WKC wasn't there either, nor was R&C, FFvs13, and lots of other games. Here's a question: is Heavy Rain on the show floor? Yup. So shut up.

Mexico6193424d ago

theres a question on the Xbox 360's 1 vs 100 beta that says what game from Quantic Dreams is releasing in 2010 and the answer was Heavy Rain.

V ii T aL3424d ago

Whatever it takes to make it a great masterpiece! Thats all i want.

tplarkin73423d ago

Adventure games have no replay value. It's fun once, and then you never go back.

ThatCanadianGuy3423d ago

Possibly the stupidest comment i've read in days.

Obviously you never played Indigo prophecy/Farenheit
I'm on my 9th playthrough.Every action is different every playthrough.

A mediocre game like Alan wake..yeah.. i would only play once or twice :)

kissmeimgreek3423d ago

yah this is going to be epic. four characters, each one can die and story continues, hundreds of choices and QTE events. if i had a ps3 id play this for weeks... sometimes an xbox just wont do the trick... but most of the time it does ;)...or maybe half the time if you include RROD. lol

SaberEdge3423d ago

@canadianguy

I was going to agree with you until I read the last line. Calling Alan Wake "mediocre"...well, that was plain moronic.

Alan Wake was one of the best games shown at E3. Many game sites are already mentioning it among the best things seen at E3.

mastiffchild3423d ago

Jesus Sabre put down the heavy machine gun. TCG is a decent chap and was joking about the excellent looking AW as you can clearly see by his winking smiley.

Come on, aren't we allowed to be playful. On topic, if Sony have said early 2010 it won't be becauswe of QD as I know they'r very nearly done and didn't wish to show moe of the game just because it's so story driven and anything more woud spil into spoiler. Near release the other characters will be revealed but very little else. Sony prelly moved the game to give it more of a chance sales wise as an innovative/untrad game in the holiday rush would run the risk of being ignored.

N need to worry from QD side at all or if you think the game may slip to lae next year as it just isn't going to.

BTW, can we call Wardevil dead now?

ThatCanadianGuy3423d ago

Many sites? Cool i guess, that's their opinion. Not mine. From what i seen of it it, not impressed.Looks way to much like alone in the dark.

Point is, i was using my sarcastic trolling humor to counter-troll Tplarkin's absurd logic.
