Schappert: We've got the best games and all the franchises on Xbox 360

Corporate vice president of Xbox Live, John Schappert has told the BBC that now the Metal Gear franchise is heading to Xbox 360, the company now has "all the franchises" and "the best games."

"The Metal Gear Solid franchise was the last franchise that we were really truly looking to get on board," he said

"We've got the best games and we've got all the franchises that might have started their lives on other consoles coming to the 360."

Both of the HD systems have a bunch of solid games. Sony definitely outweighs MS in terms of the volume of console exclusive franchises though; that won't appear on PC or anywhere else.

I guess I'm waiting for the Tokyo Game Show for MS to announce their JRPGs (I skipped Star Ocean as the character designs/ voices looked annoying, but will be picking up Magna Carta 2 and the 99 Nights sequel). Unless they've just given up on Japan at this point. I'm curious to see how Square Enix behaves at Sony's conference today - that will be very telling.

Both systems have their merits and desirable exclusives. Putting your fingers in your ears and screaming "la-la-la-la" won't make any of Sony's top tier games disappear, nor will it lessen their quality.

My favorite games this gen: Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles (yes, I have a JRPG addiction), Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Kingdom Under Fire (sure it wasn't great, but it was fun hack and slash).

Do you notice anything? Those games are from different platforms. I'm not some sort of neutral gaming saint, I definitely prefer the PS3, but I am also a gamer and a consumer and I wanted to play some of the titles that the 360 offered. I can see the VALUE in another system, even though I have a preference.

You can't see the value in anything aside from your own opinion. How much of the world you must miss out on - video games aside - due to your own shortsightedness.

If you want MGS Rising, you can get MGS Rising and Metal Gear Solid 4 for ps3. And be able to play MGS 1,2 and 3.

If you want Final Fantasy XIII, you can get Final Fantasy XIII and Versus on ps3

All on 1 bluray disc.

Xbox 360 doesn't offer that. And it will never get the excellent first party sony games like god of war 3, trico, uncharted 2 and gran turismo 5

It's funny how MS wasn't saying anything when they got MGS 2 on the original Xbox which was an actual Metal Gear Solid game but now that they have the new "Metal Gear" game this gen they have to show it off to the world as if they took something from Sony.

MGS Twin Snakes(remake of 1)- GC
MGS 2- PS2
MGS 2 Substance- Xbox/PC/PS2

The only MGS exclusive to Sony are 3 and 4, the others have appeared on other platforms INCLUDING MS. Honestly all sides have become ridiculous fan boys, Sony, MS, Nintendo, it's getting really silly and stupid, "We're the best this, we're the best that" While we're on topic, FF and DMC games have appeared on PC as well, which are MS platforms and the 360 is just an extension of the PC platform, so in reality the only thing MS took was FF13.

I am started to get sick of the hate. Really. If not for XBOX, competition would not exist and PS3 would have not had the need to innovate more and push its developers. It is MS, no Nintendo that is playing that exact role. This is why gamers are in for a treat. Gaming is no complete with an Xbox alone. Gaming is not complete with a Wii alone or a PS3 alone. I am a complete gamer. I play mario and zelda, Uncharted 2 and Gears of War. They are all great games. They are all great platforms. To be a complete gamer, you will need the 3 consoles. What MS fail to see is that they are boasting about equaling the PS1 by having these franchise that Sony have since they entered the market. Don Matrick said it best at the MS conference. Now the xbox is complete like it wasnt complete before.

Ever since Sony entered the market they have develop their own iconic franchise. Too many to name them. MS is stuck with the past while Sony is looking to the future. Sad really. The Playstation brand made FF, GTA and MGS where they were.

Guys, most of you are Playstation fanboys so it is no surprise why you take the stance you do, but I think it is kind of silly.

It goes without saying that the 360 is never going to have any of the Nintendo or Sony first party exclusives, but as far as any significant 3rd party franchise that is even possible of coming over to the 360, Microsoft have done a very good job of making those games available for their customers. I agree with Microsoft in that they have now got pretty much every important 3rd party franchise on their console.

You guys act like that is a bad thing. Do you really think a console maker should not try to get every good 3rd party franchise to come over to their console so that their customers can enjoy those games? Is that what you are claiming?

If Sony wanted those games to be exclusive to their console so that only their customers could play those games, they should have bought the development studio or at least entered into a contract securing that franchise as an exclusive. Historical precedent doesn't guarantee you anything. Just because MGS happened to see a majority of its releases on Playstation consoles in the past gives Sony no implied right to exclusivity. Konami is an independent developer and they are going to go where it makes most sense for them.

Microsoft is only doing what any good console maker does, and that is getting as many high quality games on their system as possible. When Sony does it (see Final Fantasy XIV, Rockstar's Agent, etc.) you guys completely overlook it and don't bat an eye. It is really absurd the kind of double standards many of you have who frequent this site.

well the resistance series is better than halo. Both are great but halo has the name so people just say that it's better regardless of logic.

Foxgod: Halo1 got a name because it was a great game that paved the way for FPS on consoles. Halo2 and Halo3 actually have worse gameplay and have been a step backwards from Halo1. Resistance Fall of Man was so much better than Halo3 thats the point I'm getting at. It had better graphics and more up to date and better gameplay mechanics and was just an all round better game. Resistance doesn't have a big name because it did nothing groundbreaking but its still a fantastic series.

ODST looks the same old yet again. Nothing in that video of ODST impressed me it looked very ordinary and you can't deny that. Yet, I bet it will get fantastic reviews for being Halo...

I know guys like FOX and Omega will point to metacritic as their source to back up their opinion that forza is better, but that's just them. Anyway, I like what they showed with Forza 3 but I don't think Forza 2 was at the time the definitive racer of this generation.

And Fox, you keep repeating yourself about best games this and best games that. It's really subjectivity my rabid friend. 360 has great games but I don't think it's the best. However, I won't force that opinion down anyone's throat.

First off, two wrongs do not make a right. Just because Sony played the role of the douche bag back then doesn't mean it's OK that MS or any developer of MS games does the same. Somebody needs to be the better man/woman and this person passed up that opportunity.

Secondly, MS does not sell the most consoles. They sell the least in terms of world wide sales. Only difference is, they started selling them a year early. Take that lead away and they would be a touch under Sony since Sony sells more consoles per month worldwide. Disagree with that and you are a simpleton with no concrete knowledge of the real facts.

Yes it is a bit of a pompous statement, but at the time he was probably right. Sony has been humbled and in my opinion it was the BEST thing that could happen to them for their future success and our gaming happiness.

MS is now starting to show too much we are the best attitude without dominating the videogame market for 12+ years like Sony did. So, who is the bigger jackazz? Sony when they had the proof to back it up or MS when they have nothing to back it up?

I love what MS did yesterday, I really like the competition they bring to Sony. Sony has to work harder to get more market share and MS has to work harder to get more market share....that means for us, we get better games and better services than we would if Sony or MS dominated the market like Sony did for 2 generations.

I do remember in the days b4 the 360 launch an MS rep. stated something along the lines of "Sony could sell a rock with the PS logo on it and millions would buy it."

MS has come a long way, and now it is Sony's turn to wow us today. I think they will and after Sony's conference the internets (Dubya) will be ablaze with stories about Sony's awesome presentation.

We will see.
