Real-world comparison shows stunning level of detail in new GTA

While Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas, Vice City and the original Liberty City were decent approximations of iconic American cities, the debut GTA IV video hints at an incredible level of realism for the PS3 and Xbox 360 iteration - not just in terms of the buildings but also their geographical positioning and sense of scale.

New York will still be referred to as fictional Liberty City but it seems feasible from close examination of the trailer that an aerial view of the environs will match the authentic Google Maps version far closer than the one seen in GTA 3. In many ways it's approaching the whole city thing in the same manner as The Getaway did for London.

i come from a little village near york in the UK and came to new york last year for a shopping holiday. saw all the sites and now ill be able to do it all over again! never was a fan of the others but will defo but this.
thanks rockstar now i dont have to spend a fortune to see my favorite city

The game looks great. And it will probably be the most realistic game. But which picture(s) are you refering to? I don't think they look photorealistic just yet though.

It wouldn't be the first time a game was modeled meter for meter after a city. Hell, Test Drive Unlimited did it for an entire island.
