"Epic Games staff will also be on hand to answer questions for licensees and those who are thinking about licensing the engine. "

thats more like what epic is all about these days, selling out the engine to as many as possible instead on working on more games. ;)

honestly i think epic should finally split up in 2 departments,
Epic Tech - engine development and research
Epic Games - making games

ShabzS5458d ago

unreal engine has given us a lot of great games like bioshock, mass effect, gears, mirrors edge, splinter cell, rainbo six, deus ex, brothers in arms, graw... hell even XIII.. (yup that comic book cell shaded master piece)... but i think its about time epic chuck this engine and start from scratch ... with id tech 5 and cry engine 3 right around the corner .. they'd be forced to rethink a few things... i'm sure they're just waiting like us to see how those engines perform in a full game with ai...

You sure ran in here pretty fast for being asleep.

ZuperAmazingCooKie5458d ago

Just to demo the new improvements to the engine. Not saying they will release it for PS3 (at least not in a long time), just saying that would be a good way to showcase it on PS3. After all, they already have the assets and the engine already runs on PS3, so the game almost exists.

LOL --> Epic does have more than ONE development department.

I really hate how unoriginal most Multi-plat games have looked this gen mostly because of prevelent use of UE3.

I don't blame EPIC though. I have a lot of respect for them. Its just bussiness.

What i would have liked to see is more 3rd party multi-plat engines out this gen. its good that we now have Cryengine as well. Hopefully rage will bring something new to the table.

mastiffchild5458d ago

You can't blame the devs either, not in this climate anyway. Making your own engine is costly, and as you well know, also time consuming in the extreme. How many devs have the money, staff and backbone to do all that? and I guess that UE must be attractive for the ease of use and backup Epic and also other devs can give through experience of it.

It has meant games feeling a bit cookie cutter but it's entiely understandable on both the sellers and buyers sides, imo.

I'd raher see Epic make a few games though but they have to look after business first.

Versus cartoony art styles and or hand painted textures that look like chalk scribble?

SpoonyRedMage5458d ago (Edited 5458d ago )

I don't think the UE3 looks bad and can be used for different styles but it doesn't run very well. The Last Remnant and Lost Odyssey look fantastic and not the typical shiny and wet style but suffer in the performance department(Same with Mass Effect and probably a few others).

I think Capcom's MT Framwork engine is one the best though, very diverse. Although I think Chris(RE5) and Frank(Dead Rising) look quite similar.

Well this engine has helped alot of devs make great games. Hopefully at e3 they will should something that will be exciting.

ULTIMATE_REVENGE5458d ago

in that case the 360 has loads of cartoony games, but anyways why are you so offended about people bashing the UE3, it was made for the PC, PS3 and 360, so don't act like as though it was only made for the 360.

I've noticed that quite a lot lately, anyone who bashes the UE3 the 360 fans are the first one's to jump and scream at you like little girls

cmrbe5458d ago (Edited 5458d ago )

It the only engine they can defend even though its a multi-plat one lol!.

Now you are going to see them defend the cryengine 3 with a passion.

This is what happens when MS don't create their own exclsuive engines that push their console limits. You get people like I did not murder him defending it like its exclusive on the x360 lol!.

PirateThom5458d ago

I don't get why anyone would defend prevalent use of Unreal Engine. Maybe they hate variety?

Nothing wrong with designing engines from scratch to take advantage of hardware or even using other middleware engines.

SpoonyRedMage5458d ago (Edited 5458d ago )

I personally like Tri-Aces Infinite Undiscovery engine, not the most advanced or technical engine but the two game using it(IU and SO4) both look nice. I think I prefer the vivid colours of it. It's technically multiplatform but it's only been used on the 360 so far.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing it used by other developers.

Bit off-topic but oh well.

EDIT: Why the disagree, no love for the IU engine?:(

DNAgent5458d ago

Gears of War 3 for PS3 confirmed.

II Necroplasm II5458d ago

Ofcourse.

Being the PC architecture of the PS3 and it will sell like hotcakes on the PS3 as well.

-MD-5458d ago

Unreal tournament 3 was on PS3 which used that engine.

Don't get your hopes up.

PotNoodle5458d ago

There have been probably over 50 games on the PS3, which use the Unreal engine. Infact, there is an exclusive PS3 game that uses the unreal engine..

Supersonic acrobatic rocket powered battle-cars :p

Why Monopolies In Gaming Must Not Be Allowed

As of right now, there are no monopolies in the games industry, and for the sake of the medium as a whole, they never should either.

thorstein7h ago

Shouldn't be allowed in any field.

Inverno3h ago

And yet the biggest tech companies in America are essentially that. They buy up all the small comps only to kill them off and steal what they have, and if they can't buy em they bleed them to death.

jwillj2k42h ago

Eventually they’ll realize the value is with the employee not the company. Buying an IP means nothing if the people who contributed are let go. They’ll get it one day.

MrCrimson1h ago

tech is different because they buy threats and then kill them. Twitter bought Vine and did nothing with it. Despite people seemingly liking it. Could've had tiktok a decade before bytedance. go figure.

Zenzuu2h ago

Monopolies shouldn't be allowed regardless. Not just for gaming.

MrCrimson1h ago

They buy IPs not talent. That's why these buyouts never work and the IPs die. Right now it's too expensive to develop games - but I expect that to shift maybe as AI tools can make it easier. The best games have been indie games for awhile as big developers fuck their ips to death with "games as a service" -
