lol MGS4 has sold 4.5 mil as of 31th dec 2008 http://www.psxextreme.com/p...
vgchartz is HORRIBLE source, mgs4 is now in 4.8 m acording numbers of konami... vgchartz: epic fail.
i buy all exclusives.they are worth it
that includes the bundled sales. VGChartz doesn't count those. I find VGChartz useful in that they can give you a good idea of how a gamer or piece of hardware is selling. Nothing concrete, but better then a general guess. You guys gotta stop this double standard bullshit. When VGChartz tells you what you want to hear you like them. Then when they don't, you hate them.
I feel SORRY for anyone who doesnt get to play the AWESOME exclusives for the PS3. Lets face it peeps. All these number games that try to bring down Sony's amazing offering this generation wont even make me budge. I dont care if Sony sold 100K games... TRUTH IS IN THE PUDDING... SONYS games ROCK! RFOM MGSIV GT5 PL MLB the show KZ2 RFOM2 MS1 and 2 Warhawk Heavenly Drakes And soon Infamous Drakes 2 GT5 GOW3 etc etc Who cares about the numbers! LETS PLAY !!! SONY RULES!
so they should count mgs4 bundles. they also count wii sports!!
isnt the most reliable source!i had an a/c there but its not accurate!they have PS3 Undertracked and most games undertracked too!
so if it were to have sold 3 mill more, would it have made it a better game? just wondering. because sales equal a good game right? so with no change at all, the game would have been a better game if it sold 3 mill more.
just like wii fit or mario kart wii.
wtf! WTF! omg omg!
in xbot's world wait no, in RL too...
I havent even bought Killzone 2..
Yer i think they need to update most of their figures here
Anybody that uses VGCharts is an instant fail.
what are people supposed to use. just curious.
vgchartz=fail!that site has the most stupid community and its bias against the ps3!
themyk I'm not jumping on you but to answer your question IMHO people should not really care about sales that should be the developers/publishers job to care about that stuff Gamers should care about games and that's it. I'm personally so sick of fanboys (not calling you a fanboy) yapping about Sales and how sales and what scores it has on Metajoke to prove how much better there games are than what on the other system we all that know that sales doesn't mean the game is bad TRUE GAMERS know they're allot of great sleeper type games out there on all systems that may have bad sales but the game was fantastic eg. Shadows of the Colossus.
cereal_killa You hit the nail on the head. Bubble up.
i completely agree. i just see people always quoting vg and people always saying they suck and what not. me i could care less. and i've proved that with my post history. i just did a top five favorite games thing on facebook. and SOTC was in there, along with mgs3, mgs4, portal, and gta vice city.
I did that 5 things too!
a lot of people say who cares about sales, but i think we should care a little. One of the ways i look at it is if the game does decent in numbers then that makes a sequel more desirable to make. Which means more fun for me (most of the time some sequels suck). Im not saying you are wrong cereal because it does get annoying when people brag about sales. I like to know when a game i really like is doing good sales wise so i can look forward to more great games to come from those developers.
how long has it been out and how underadvertised was it, yet has still sold more than 1.55 million? (i say more, probably by quite a scale too, as vgchartz usually and conveniently undercounts ps3's hardware/software sales.
yet the ps3 has a smaller install base than the 360 and gears 2 sold only 500 (or less) thousand more? LOL. Even though miscrosoft is unreliable in ters of their sales figures xD like the way GTA4 sold more than their "PS3 beating game"
,not rrod or bad customer service but because the highest selling exclusive this gen didn't sell as much as a multiplatform game, I love your logic its so refreshing to see such an unbiased comment on n4g even your name tag is unbiased(killzowner)/
Gears 2 came out in november 2008.
MGS4 did come out a few months earlier, then again fanboys compared halo wars to kz2 and the same sorta issue was aroused, where were you then necroplasm?
Where was I? Not stealing other peoples avatars. MGS is much older than Gears of War. dissing Gears sales is just stupid, that game is a blockbuster success. Both have sold very well. You Sony fanboys think too much alike.
sold more than Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
no, on ps3, read the article unless YOURE biased. gta4, on ps3 ONLY, sold 5.6 million. and thanks for calling me biased for no reason :( just because I like KZ2 doesnt mean im biased, means I have good taste in games :)
npd, chart track, media create etc are all unreliable in there figures.none know the exact amount sold due to internet sites, multi chains etc not letting them have the information.
Sure, and its a guestimate anyway. But all this "unreliability" would certainly apply to all others, too (products, platforms, etc). For us "professionals" what that leaves us with is a trend. Nothing more.
So, are those shipped games in retailers on consignment?
I know VGchartz is unreliable, but why? If its so inaccurate then why do people still use it?
The BBC, Forbes, Fortune, NyTimes, NYPost, they've all used VGchartz numbers over the years and articles have been written comparing VGchartz to NPD and find that VGChartz has an advantage because they revise their numbers when official numbers are available. Short term data probably isn't as accurate as it could be but once the info goes public from the companies, all VGChartz does in compile it in one place. It's quite useful for historical data. Actually, I just checked and they seem to be tracking the 360 kinda high. Microsoft and Sony both reported 10.8 million consoles for calendar year 2008. VGchartz has the PS3 at 10.3 vs the 360 at 11 million. That's a bit of a discrepency. I wonder how long it takes them to adjust their figures?
I wish KZ 2 had sold better for a very rational reason: the online community. The more the merrier, lets see what happens, i plan to buy the DLC maps and future DLC, the community is very important for that. PS: Does anyone knows how well the Maps for KZ2 sold?
the community for KZ2 is thriving. Go online and see, theres loads of matches of every single type going 24/7, i mean 24/7 btw, lot of my friends playing till 5am, they have no life xD But really, you dont feel deserted on the servers, theres so many people playing at the same time, even on the new DLC maps, so Im guessing they sold a lot :) not that it matters exactly what it sold, more than enough people play it, isnt that all that matters?
KZ2 community reached above a million as posted by Guerilla. That is an awesome number judging the fact that near 1.6 million copies are sold world wide and it's only out for 2 months. I have never had a problem finding a game in KZ2... and there are tones of choices as well. The community is growing and growing on a regular basis... which is awesome. It's not that I live in a different time zone or something, but there are always tones of people around playing round the clock.... It's only going to get better as time goes on. Hopefully the game reaches above 3 million fast... (hoping that it beats MGS4 sales..)
Re: DLC and new maps. They have to work on the lobby or game filter. Like in Warhawk you can see immediately what game has new maps and which hasn't. Also, an info window is missing. The current list shows you what game types, but not how long each type is and how long the map reel is.
I am. I can find a game as quickly as i can press yhe buttons, but there are maps taht are 100% empty. this is not a one time thing, i play it on a daily basis and that is a constant. I do want to see the community reach the 3 million, like i said the more the merrier. i never said the community is lacking, i just want it to get bigger and bigger. That promotes longevity for online play. Example is Halo 3, you log in today and there are more than 300,000 gamers playing it at that moment, that is hot.
I know what you mean, I actually wondered why this wasnt there the other night, map reel time would really be useful, I cant think why they left it out :S I mean dont get me wrong, GG are doing great and all with the patches that are made due to feedback on the forums, killzone.com, DLC, play the devs matches and tournaments, but that was a no brainer :S @ No-spin do you mean, when you search a map on the filter there are 0 people playing that map online? if so, are you sure your playing killzone :S. not being insulting or anything dude but Ive never had that happen to me ever and neither have any of the people I know. whenever I search a map therell ALWAYS be 20 odd results, limited by the locality or actual number of matches that is sensible to be shown. Even when I narrow it down to a gametype there are still 10 or more results, and thats the lowest ive encountered. Where do you live? Im in the UK and thats never happened to me anyway. Also I know what you mean, if there were still people were playing KZ2 in 2+ years from now online thatd be awesome :) But i dont think itll reach Halo 3 number of players. I mean with a ps3 price cut sure, therell be an increase and I think if that happens at E3 then we could see an end of year sale number of killzone 2 up to maybe 2.5 million, poss. 3? thatd rock. Also, personally in need of a machinima kinda video or match recording camera like halo 3. Free roaming matches and recording them straight onto your harddrive would be awesome, make that 10 person grenade kill I made even more memorable :D
Maybe i have to verify my filter or regional settings. Im in Puerto Rico, which is a US territory, most of the games i find are from EU, maybe i have to adjust the settings, thanks for the info. KZ 2 deserves Halo 3 numbers, the MP is so much better than anything else. I wish to play killzone 2 for a very long time, the game is really great. I see how the PS3 owners have different taste and FPS is not a total favorite, but KZ2 for me crosses the line thx to its top of the line quality, 32 players in massive maps (wow). In the mean time lets enjoy the jewel that KZ2 is for all of us to have fun in the online community.
No-spin, I am still waiting on my shipment of Medalla. Where is it?
@Shazui. Offensive ? Why's that? If so, I'm sorry. Its just to letters of my name, and because I am a lazy a$$ to come up with a better idea. LOL. So, whoever thinks something else should get their associative thinking re-evaluated...
VGChatz? xD Wow... Still using that, huh?
Just because killzone is selling slowly why are these stupid azz keep thinking the game sucks and its because of hype . people are stupid . i will take killzone2 over any of these games any day , even mgs4 and snake is my half brother .
people go get killzone its a great game
http://www.metacritic.com/g... Errrr... Shadow of the Colossus has a 91% score at metacritic.. and the metacritic score is a weighted AVERAGE of review scores from various different sources. Each movie, game, book and album featured on metacritic.com is assigned a METASCORE, which is a weighted average of all of the scores assigned by individual critics to that movie, game, book or album. On a typical film page, for example, you will see the individual critic scores next to each of their quotes, while the overall METASCORE will be displayed at the top of the page. Book METASCORES are calculated slightly differently, but the underlying concept is the same. http://www.metacritic.com/a... --- As for vgamechartz... they use this method: VG Chartz Methodology Understanding Sales Figures 1. As obligated by law, videogame companies report shipment data in their financial reports 2. Sales figures categorized as ‘Shipment’ data has a number of definitions. In all cases, it is a term used to describe the number of units that were moved from a manufacturing plant. Whether or not these units made it past warehouses and onto store shelves is another question entirely. As such shipment can entail: 1. Product shipped from factories to warehouses. 2. Product shipped from factories to retail middlemen/warehouses. 3. Product shipped from factories to individual retail stores. 3. In definition B1, a poor selling product appears to be selling faster than it is, because the company produced more than necessary for warehouses. 4. In definition B2, stores overestimate demand, and end up with excess stock. In theory, this causes the product which is selling worse than expected, to be manufactured at a slower rate. 5. In definition B3, a product is selling well, and a company is failing to, or barely shipping enough units to keep the product on store shelves. 6. Under all three definitions, it is an absolute certainty that the product has sold not a single unit more to customers (individual gamers) than what was shipped. The faster the product sells, the closer the shipment figure is to the number of consumers (gamers) who have bought the product. 7. When a product is discontinued at the end of its life, then the number of consoles shipped equals roughly the number sold, as retailers will do everything in their power to rid themselves of the product for newer, better selling products. How VG Chartz comes up with its figures 1. Sales figures are determined through two important methods 1. Data Sampling – VG Chartz gathers random data from a sample of the total number of retailers. 2. Shipment information – VG Chartz has contacts with publishers who give their best estimates on number of products shipped. 2. Because the number of retailers selling videogames is quite large, it is possible to attain statistically valid results from a small sample. 3. It then becomes a matter of working backwards by having: 1. The approximate number of retailers. 2. Historical sales figures. 3. Data from sales tracking agencies as reference points in accuracy. 4. There are obvious limiting factors as well – few games have above a 40% attach rate, a game will never sell more than the console user base, publishers do not ship significantly more or less than they expect to be sold Explaining Data on VG Chartz 1. Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft define regions differently. Microsoft includes more than Japan in ‘Japan’ on financial reports for instance. 2. “American Weekly Data” is VG Chartz estimations for sales of the United States and Canada, plus slightly more for developing markets in Central & South America. Canadian data tends to account for 5-10% of USA hardware and software sales in any given week. 3. The million selling software section is shipment information from publishers – it is not sell through. 4. The LTD (lifetime to date) hardware section is shipment data from publishers about what has been shipped since the product launched. LTD hardware is directly from 6 month financial reports. http://www.vgchartz.com/met...
