Xbox 360, still the most successful HD console.

All MS need to do is release Alan Wake, Halo ODST, PGR5, Forza 3 and drop the price of the premium before christmas and they have won 2009. The ps3 wouldn't be able to recover after an assault like that.

PirateThom3813d ago

ALL THEY NEED TO DO IS RELEASE GAMES AND DROP THE PRICE?!

Do you work in marketing? With these radical ideas you should consider it! I'm serious... a game console sells well when it has games and the price is low... whoa. My mind is, officially, blown.

-YLoD-3813d ago

They have already won 2009, even if they don't release those games and drop the price ;)

Lfmesquite3813d ago

360 outsells PS3 by 100k, it's been the same the past 3 months.

The real impacts are made during the holiday when consoles really sell big.

dj555555553813d ago

just another person that gets cheap confused with better

Lfmesquite3813d ago

Didn't get to finish, and then had connection problems.

But you have to be crazy if you think 360 has this year won. Look at what happen last year, PS3 won the early months then XBOX 360 got a price cut and took momentum during the holidays.

If PS3 gets a price cut for the fall, I think they have a good chance of doing really well this year when it really matters.

I would rather win the holiday months when console sales reach in the millions.

dogmeat eater3813d ago

You know everything. I bet you go to harvard.

OmarJA3813d ago

"Xbox 360, still the most successful HD console."

In terms of sales Yes (although not good enough), in terms of Exclusives, Quality, Features, System stability & Entertainment Capabilities... No.

Omega43813d ago

I dont think PGR5 AND Forza 3 both need to be released just Forza will do fine

PGR can be swapped out for Splinter Cell

RememberThe3573813d ago

Forza against GT. Thats like me against Ali; I can throw down on my own, but against the best, I'm nothing.

CaseyRyback_CPO3813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

so this generations winner has already been declared. Nintendo killed Microsoft and Sony.

What reality did the Wii's success that the Xbox nor the PS3 can ever catch up to mean for gaming? Absolutely nothing. Its not the days of sega. You can have 2 losers that are still pumping out titles that are selling millions, and creating sequels.

Sales are insignificant this generation.

Whats significant is:

Hardware superiority
Exclusive gaming experiences
Hardware Quality
Free Online Experience

The 360 loses at every actual significant measure. If something selling more at 199 and launching a year earlier than a 499 product helps you sleep at night, by all means enjoy your sleep. It might help you remember that you've been playing nothing but Gears, low rated Fable, low rated ninja blade, flop SE RPG#4394, low rated race pro, low rated velvet assassin, and low rated Halo Wars since 2008 along with multiplatform PS3 games. While getting charged for free peer to peer gaming.

Wheres the victory party! I'm bringing cake.

You guys have been "buh buh e3" the same titles since forza2 was launched... the mantra of "buh just wait for e3" has been the exact same, with the EXACT same titles:

Splinter Cell: zomg MGS killer! buh buh we want MGS tooo

Forza3: Zomg GT Killer! buh buh.. the graphics are compromised for da da bending fiberglass..and the reason ferrari doesn't debut their vehicles in forza is.. uh..

Huxley: BIGGEST BADDEST MO.. wait they reduced it to 32 vs 32? so no 100 vs 100 on screen? wait.. the dev isn't starting on the 360 version utnil the PC versi.. damnit.

Warhounds: LOOK AT THAT PC TECH DEMO!

Alan Wake: Going to be one of the BEST games EVER created because .............................. ..

And now you've added in 953 other games that are just oddball PC/360 releases, just like we've had this entire gen that come and go without any significance. the 360 library has over 400 games, you guys own 30 of them.

Rinse and repeat... Last e3 MS bought a ps3 exclusive, which is always the biggest news for 360 owners, getting to play PS3 games.. and announced AAA hits like Lips, and You're in the Movies. And previously "unexpected first time ever heard of" titles like Gear2.

kewlkat0073813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

Actually your describing what went down for MS Post E3 2008.

Sony was doing very well at the beginning of last year in the States

pixelsword3813d ago

You took the words right out of my mouth when you said if you're going by sales, the Wii has been and looks like it will always be the winner, unless something comes out that will turn the tide.

Ignoring the Wii is why the 360 and PS3 are not in first place... in the first place! :D

king dong23813d ago

imo, if you're a gamer and not a fanboy, and own all the systems(like me) then you've already won!

imo, this has already been the best generation for hardware and software, and it's not even finished yet! all the systems have had/will have some great exclusives...and thats not even mentioning some of the great multi-plats.

everythimg has got to turn into a fanboy idiot fest on here...BOTH sides need to get a grip.

Aclay3813d ago

"All MS need to do is release Alan Wake, Halo ODST, PGR5, Forza 3 and drop the price of the premium before christmas and they have won 2009. The ps3 wouldn't be able to recover after an assault like that."

In my opinion, both a new Forza and Project Gotham racing game probably won't have as big of an impact because those games have already hit the 360. Gran Turismo 5's impact will probably be bigger than both a new Forza and PGR game combined, especially in Europe and Japan.... GT is one of the biggest Racing Sim's EVER.

Even if Microsoft were to release all of those games in addition to a price cut, all Sony would have to do is release GT5 with or without a PS3 price cut and Europe alone would be secured for 2009.

There's been little to nothing shown from Alan Wake for ages, and most likely it's not coming out this year. Halo 3 has already hit the 360, so I don't see Halo: ODST making that much of an impact either because Halo: ODST will only be huge for people that already have Halo 3, not for people that haven't bought the game.

A lot of big 360 titles/francises have already come and gone, but there's still many big Playstation franchise games that have yet to hit the PS3.

Bombomb3813d ago

system sellers left besides gow and gt series. thats it.

DasBunker3813d ago

Just owned all the fanboys..and i love how they just disagree and disagree but they dont reply back... because they cant!

cryymoar3813d ago

the PS3 is barely at about 27.5% of it's lifetime, do you really think this generation is over already to claim the xb360 as the winner?

IdleLeeSiuLung3813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

The idea that Sony just needs to drop the price they will win is flawed. What prevents MS from following suit? Sony drops $100, MS just drops $50. Xbox 360 still half the cost of PS3 and who is hurting more?

This is not to mention suddenly the Xbox 360 is even closer to the price point of PS2. Notice how PS2 is priced at half the Xbox 360 Arcade. Furthermore, it would take PS3 years to catch up to the Xbox 360 lead even if they sold 150-200k more consoles a month worldwide.

What Sony needs to do is focus on releasing quality exclusive games as they are to differentiate their product and expand their PSN marketplace. They should try to offer something unique to the PS3 and avoid engaging in a price war with MS.

I highly doubt mass consumers (not frequent gamers that research and is in the know) really look at a product and say, the PS3 has wifi, blu-ray and etc... it is worth twice the cost!

Fact is there is too little differentiation between Xbox 360 and PS3 to the mass consumer. They see most games comes out on both platforms, but Xbox 360 is half the cost and can be expanded. Who do you think they are going to pick? What do you think the retail salesman is going to recommend when most of the profits made are on accessories? Lower price, means more potential for accessories sold.

What has helped Sony is massive dedicated fanbase, MS widespread hardware failure and Playstation branding. Continue to market yourself as a the elite console system alas what Apple does with their computers.

What is surprising though is how well the PS3 still sells despite the significant higher price point.

I think at this point it is too late to focus on winning against the competition, but rather stay profitable as they are working towards.

Go ahead and disagree, but don't be an anonymous coward. POST an INTELLIGENT response!

silvacrest3813d ago

"The idea that Sony just needs to drop the price they will win is flawed. What prevents MS from following suit? Sony drops $100, MS just drops $50. Xbox 360 still half the cost of PS3 and who is hurting more?"

erm...microsoft? how much profit could they really obtain after another price cut after already being the cheapest console on the market

"This is not to mention suddenly the Xbox 360 is even closer to the price point of PS2. Notice how PS2 is priced at half the Xbox 360 Arcade. Furthermore, it would take PS3 years to catch up to the Xbox 360 lead even if they sold 150-200k more consoles a month worldwide."

i have no proof but i dont think microsoft have a 8 mil lead and i make this assumption soley on npd multiplat sales. the 360 should be selling millions more but thats not the case

"What Sony needs to do is focus on releasing quality exclusive games as they are to differentiate their product and expand their PSN marketplace. They should try to offer something unique to the PS3 and avoid engaging in a price war with MS."

there already doing this, infamous, heavy rain, GOW etc plus no announced price cut

"What is surprising though is how well the PS3 still sells despite the significant higher price point."

and that is why some sony fanboys proclaim "gameover" when the ps3 finally gets its price cut and to be honest, i agree to an extent

FlameBaitGod3813d ago

Yeah if its not selling more than the wii and its 200bucks imagine if they sell it for its real price 100 bucks!! it would be off the shelves!

redsquad3813d ago

Oh dear god that's hilarious.
Basically, 'all' MS have to do is the opposite of what they're doing now and they're peachy?

Why the fudge aren't you on my 'ignore list'??

OGharryjoysticks3813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

When PS3 drops in price Microsoft will drop price again, but they are in no rush to because they are losing money on each system sold. Sony is losing money on each system as well but they are losing less per system than Microsoft due to the higher PS3 cost. But Microsoft has market penetration as its goal over profits so another price drop will happen.

They know they have 0 argument. So they just hide behind disagree. Im an anti-extremist fanboy. Nothing wrong with havnig a favorite console, but to pretend MS is going to have some amazing e3 based on absolutely the same exact thing that is hyped every e3 is retarded. And the fact that their biggest news is always playing ps3 games is what is the nail in the coffin. They are looking forward to which ps3 exclusive they get to play. cant say its the same for the sony e3 lineup. If a sony consolite was looking forward to a 360 exclusive, they would just play it "exclusively" on their old PC that runs the game in higher resolution than the console counterparts anyway.

Sales sales sales, yet they want to ignore the wii.

iDystopia3813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

Xbox 360 beat the PS3 this generation. You will get over it, there's no other choice. And nothings going to change it.

See you at E3. : )

iDystopia3813d ago

So I'm delusional for believing the Xbox 360(ya know, the console with the 10 million lead, that had beaten PS3 at evrything possbile this generation...now being almost 4 years old) has beaten the PS3?

Ha your the only one who's delusional. PS3 has lost.

I'll leave you with this....realize in your brain how long it would take PS3 to catch up:

Greenberg said he's "confident" that Microsoft will outsell the PlayStation 3 throughout the current generation. "I can’t imagine any scenario where the PS3 can catch up with us," he said.

"In fact, even if you doubled the current PS3 sales and Xbox 360 remained flat, they couldn’t close the gap until 2014."

LOL!!! PS3 isn't going anywhere in the first place! Sorry but you lose....will at E3 also.

IdleLeeSiuLung3813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

"erm...microsoft? how much profit could they really obtain after another price cut after already being the cheapest console on the market"

Well, if Sony is reducing their cost what makes you think MS is unable to? Furthermore, MS has shown that they can continue to make a profit not only from console sales, but also games, accessories and Xbox Live! Gold subscriptions. MS has the highest attach rate of any console period.

"i have no proof but i dont think microsoft have a 8 mil lead and i make this assumption soley on npd multiplat sales. the 360 should be selling millions more but thats not the case"

Well, with almost twice the number of consoles on the market in the US (since you use NPD numbers), it would seem that multiplat should sell double. A number of games sold even (almost none sold better on the PS3 of any significance) and a number of games sold as much as 2-2.5 times.

December 2008 (NPD):
Call of Duty: World at War - Xbox 360 – Activision – 1.33 million*
Call of Duty: World at War - PS3 – Activision – 533K

Calendar year 2008 (NPD):
Grand Theft Auto IV - Xbox 360 – Take-Two – 3.29 million*
Grand Theft Auto IV - PS3 – Take-Two – 1.89 million*

source: http://www.gamedaily.com/ar...

Keep in mind that the 360 is plagued by rampant piracy and it still outsells the PS3 with a large margin on some games. I see no trend either way based on your assumption other than there might be a preference of type of games for the different user base.

Furthermore as the console user base gets larger the ratio between game sales to consoles sales start to taper off.

"and that is why some sony fanboys proclaim "gameover" when the ps3 finally gets its price cut and to be honest, i agree to an extent"

I frankly don't see how unless the price is so close that the features significantly gives the PS3 an advantage (read less than $50 difference), but by then we are probably at the next console generation and it is no longer of significance. A $300 to a $150 difference is still too large a difference in price. In addition, what people often forget is that a console purchase is a commitment which means additional accessories are likely to be sold. Do you want a game with that console? Do you want an extra controller? Suddenly it adds up....

As I said, I think Sony long realized this and wisely changed their strategy focusing on profitable business instead of chasing a costly victory at this point that is far fetched.

Quoted like a true Westerner...

Please, try and look beyond your shores and come to grips with the FACT that there is a big wide world out there. Good gravy I swear if you ask most of the Western Video Gamers if the world was flat they would say yes and that the planet Earth should be called Planet North America.

If I recall correctly, the PS3 sold more than the 360 world wide in the past two years running... Am I right?

And my second question... Does any of this matter to the games?

YEa, I consider the PS3 defeated in teh short term battle, but they cant win the war, they dont have the global clout at this point. Maybe next Gen, the days of 5 yr life cycles is over, but I wouldnt go as far to call them 10 yet, I would say 7 yrs is more like it now.

10 yrs just meants after the new one is out we still keep the other going, 7 is about where they will be before a new system comes out period going forward, SONY will win the 7 yr stride, MS wont the short term fight.

I expect next gen to be about dead even from beg to finish.

snaz273813d ago

a 10 year lifecycle is when the particular console is still having games made for it for 10 years or over... it doesnt matter if the same company make another console within that 10 years... even if another console came out a year later and the original console still lasted 10 years, it still had a 10 year lifespan... so really your comment is incorrect... hasnt the ps2 nearly done 10 years already? so the 10 year lifecycle thing has already been done... i would rather a company still supports their product even after they release more up to date tech.

snaz273813d ago

oh and as for them being equal next gen, im wondering how MS will be affected by their failure rate? i hear from almost every xbox360 owner that they have had rrod or e74... will that facture in peoples decision next time? i know the same people who have hed these failures with their hardware still defend their purchase (which is kinda crazy if you ask me). i feel that at the moment these 360 owners kinda feel trapped because they have spent alot of money on games and addons, so they cant trade them in and get the ps3 as they would lose so much money, but will they think twice next gen? i know where my money is anyway lol

Rainstorm813813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

10 year life cycle is what you need in a console who wants to buy a new console every 4-5 yrs. As far as the "console sales race" goes depending on what MS plans to do about supporting the 360 after the next Xbox is out the entire console race can end up quite differently.

This is why sales shouldnt matter to a gamer, ultimately the sales side cant even be seen til these consoles die off. All I want is a bunch of Great GAMES! Im sure all the GAMERS will agree, since the sales dont make me enjoy any of my games any more or less.

[email protected] 4.2

A friend of mine works for UPS and is a die hard Sony supporter, He tells me about how many Xbox360 systems he picks up and drops off weekly and its crazy and thats just in my area. One guy said he sent it back a Whooping 8 TIMES! I guess since they have invested so much they keep going back for more. Personally for me 2 scratched games & 1 RROD and i was DONE with Xbox completely.

snaz273813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

raiinstorm... yeah it just bogles my mind really how many people go out and buy one... but i guess thats owed alot to the so called price difference, or rather the illusion of there being one... im no diehard sony fan i mean i hated the first 2 playstations, but the ps3 is just quality i had to get one... anyway like you say the sales dont really matter to gamers... and i too wanted some ace games, so its lucky i went with sony lmao
