It's Ugly: Valve Sues Activision, Activision Threatens to Sue Valve

GamePolitics writes:

"An ugly court action is underway and it involves a pair of video game titans.

On Tuesday Valve filed suit against Activision Blizzard in U.S. District Court in Seattle. The suit alleges that Activision refused to honor an agreement to abide by an arbitrator's April 6th award decision involving a 2002 dispute over royalties.

The arbitrator in that case awarded Valve $2,391,932, an amount that Valve says is less than it sought, but which it will accept because both parties agreed to be bound by the arbitration process.

Activision, however, challenged the award, claiming that Valve had been overpaid by $424,136 in years past."

do you know how to edit your comments? you seem to double post allot lately. Just an observation.

On topic...isnt activision a publisher for Valve or is that Id?

@below...maybe it has been some time but I recall Activision was doing stuff for both. Back in the days, I have doom 3 with the activision logo as well as half life.

EA is the publisher for both Valve and id. Maybe you were thinking of Infinity Ward, Activision Blizzard owns them.

-Edit- Oh, I don't recall them ever working together. But looks like you were right, Doom 3 was published by Activision. I wasn't aware of that one.

Sierra was the original publisher of the Half-Life franchise, but things went south after Valve announced the Steam service (effectively bypassing Sierra's retail channels and cutting them from the profits). Both companies have been at odds ever since.

Sierra is now owned by Activision, meaning that Activision-Blizzard has to take Sierra's place in court.

Okay, just kidding; but I think this will get rather nasty.

I thought Gabe Newell was a relatively good friend with Rob Pardo, which is the Executive Vice President of Game Design at Blizzard Entertainment. I guess business is business and this has nothing to do between them but more with corporate interests.

It's another fan war, but this time we'll actually have a clear cut winner. :D

Excuse me while I get my Valve flag out, along with all the other sport fans.
