I hope they make a bundle with a bluetooth or even eyetoy. I say eyetoy because I remember one of the feature mention before is using the eyetoy to video chat with squad during online play.
Sort of reminded me of haze. Game looks ace overall...way!!! better than i thought it would look considering the 256 players. Previews have been surprisingly EXTREMELY positive. Some sites are already proclaiming it could beat Mordern Warfare.
Quote from edge: MAG is fun. In fact, it's massive fun. It's fast and loose, free-flowing, improvisational, spectacular, structured without being too rigid; it accommodates lone wolves, team players and power-trippers alike, and makes it easy for players themselves to direct the action. You'd expect it to be intimidating, but it actually feels like the FPS for everybody. Even after just one 20-minute, 128-player match, it's hard to shake the feeling that, one day, all multiplayer shooters will be made in its image.
Oh Snap! That looks way better than I had thought the game would look... and they still got over 8 more months?.. with 2565 players? wow, forget about it, this is impressive.
Hell, there are SP campaigns for game already released that don't look as good as that and many great looking ones that look the same and this game is several months to go yet.
The good thing about this game is that it also has mini teams or special unites that go around to enemy territory in like R6V style.. I think this game has lots of potential for being one of a kind
and is getting me more and more interested! i just want to know when ill be playing this game now!! please be soon, but not too soon where it's rushed!
i keep saying it, but if they pull this off, it could easily be one of the best games this gen!
The 3rd person view option.....Zipper, what the? I am a huge Socom fan. I was hoping they would at least keep it somewhat familiar to the games that they had done so well previously. Not just another FPS with more peeps online. At least SlantSix is constantly patching the Socom they released and are trying to make it better. Much better than when it launched now. MAG needs a 3rd person view option...now get on it Zipper!! :)
joystiq " From a personal perspective, I've got to say that I came away impressed. I'm a long-time Battlefield player and love first-person shooters as a whole, and MAG nailed it in all the right places for a competitive shooter. A solid framerate ("at least 30fps at all times"), no lag, responsive controls, a great command structure, and a persistent world where your actions contribute to your faction's ultimate goal of ruling the world, makes for what could be the top shooter of the year, on any console. Modern Warfare 2, I hope you're listening -- this is the one to beat. "

NO! 3rd person view sucks. It ruined Ghost Recon. The first one on xbox was awesome fun, then they made 2 with a 3rd person option, and it made it way less fun for me. You couldn't sneak up on people almost at all anymore. Way less fun. Variable Person games end up with 2 mediocre PoVs instead of 1 great one.
There are a few desperate naysayers on this board. That much is sure.
But Microsoft favoring Joystiq and usually harsh Eurogamer have left no room for doubt over the enticing game play, customer drawing ability, and downright fun held in MAG.
*ahem* i mean socomnick, Please tell me, in polite terms, how this game will end up like Haze? Please tell me why you think a game with 256 players will fail? Please tell me why a game with dedicated lag free servers will fail? Please tell me why you havent had a game to look forward to in almost 6 months? Tell me why you have to pay for your online when we get it free? Please tell me why you buy a system that has last gen hardware? Please tell me why you buy a system, that to the idiotic, seems cheap, but once you start to pay for all those addons, your looking at about $700? Please tell me why you have a system that has a 33 percent chance to fail? Please tell me why all of the proud xbox 360 owners always have to make uneducated statements?
Finally A real edge for me over the 360. Until this point as long as this game delivers on its promises I still though the 360 was the better system all around. Unless Microsoft counter this am starting to like the PS3 a little better.
Although I have no intention of hyping it like the KillZone 2 tards WTH is killzowned.. Halo killer ha not in this lifetime bud.
Please try to find exclusives when talking about graphics. Since you have nothing to compete with the PS3's KILLZONE2 level.. just stop.
I'd say huxley, but hell even that is multiplat too. Despite of how amazing you're pretending shinny normal maps are. LP2 is underwhelming, it will be less underwhelming on the PC, and more underwhelming once its gets a gimped ps3 port.Enjoy pretending you loved LP1, here at n4g you're not alone :).
MAG is 256 players, new game engine, and its doing something thats never been done before on consoles. And it looks as good as our top FPS'S minus kz2 of course.
Isn't good for fps standards, let alone work in progress. Enjoy never playing a game with light scattering fog either :) also new and only on the ps3 :). Oh yeah..
and its made by ZIPPER.
serious lol @ lost planet 2's timed exclusivity being the biggest thing for the 360. Who woulda thunk? I dont think anyone could have predicted this.
I know you didn't bring it up, but you did expand on it, so...
It is a little hard to compare 2 games graphically, when they are so far apart technically, for one LP2 is a sequel so will most likely just be using the same engine as LP only tweaked, modified, etc. to give it that brand new look(And let's face it with a new location it will look different anyway), MAG is being built from the ground up, no doubt it would've used some engine, but everything in this game is new, it isn't coming from a previous game that everything was tied to, so in that aspect MAG will be behind.
On the subject of LP2, that is the first time I have seen the trailer, a few things I liked, the fire, using the same fire as Resident Evil 5, which IMO is the best fire to be used in a game yet, also looks like the game is taking a lot from RE5, that boss in the gameplay vid looks basically just a modification from any number of RE5's complete with the glowing orange orbs, a different things are the water(Thank god, as I thought RE5's water was at last-gen standard, looked like a slime or good for the most of the game) and the obvious shrubs/grasses/etc. which will dominate the game, I will say one thing, the weapons look fantastic, I only played the online demo of LP on my PS3 and that was a lot of fun, too damn short, but very fun, and the weapons were one of the keys to that, also the mechs were great.
For mine I would put LP2 on par graphically probably with Resistance 2, MAG at the moment for mine, graphically about on par with Far Cry 2(Which I think is the best looking open-world game, not necessarily technically speaking in terms of what is going on to what it is showing, but best looking visually for sure.), could be taken over by inFAMOUS in the coming weeks though, I have a feeling that will blow everyone away.
Besides, how many characters on screen do you have at one time on Lost Planet 2? I'm sure it's way below 256.
MAG certainly looks very detailed, a lot more than everyone expected, and it's still early. The game already looks as good as Call of Duty 4 even when it's not polished and it has a ton more things happening on screen. I can't wait to see the final product.
Besides, Lost Planet 2 is not that impressive from a technical standpoint. It *looks* good, but it's just like resident evil 5 (same engine): Either no interactions with the environment, or the interactions are weak. In RE5 you can even occupy the same position in space as vegetation does with the main character. Of course you can make a game look great if it's not interactive at all.
The water in Lost Planet 2 has good animation but its interaction is crap. All you see is a 2D animated sprite whenever the main character walks through it, nothing is volumetric and certainly there is no fluid simulation there (not like there is in any game this gen), only pre-rendered water animation which we've seen already in other games. It looks great in Banjo Kazooie, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Uncharted 1, Bioshock 1, and the Alan Wake tech demo have done this before, it's nothing special anymore.
Some of the vegetation looks good on Lost Planet 2 but as I said it's probably not interactive; other relatively small plants are basically 2D textures, which is hilarious since it's a last-gen technique for vegetation. The Wii does that, and Oblivion did that when it was in development in 2005. Hell, Metal Gear Solid 3 had individual blades of grass, and there are lots of games now that have individual blades of grass, such as Flower for example.
To me it seems to follow the same art style as Crisis. The gun scopes and models are similiar and graphically it just reminded me of Crisis. I know techies with 1337 computers will say ZOMG CRISIS pwns MAG in graphics nub!!!, but I'm saying just artistically they have the same approach which is a good thing.
The reviews will sell this game more than anything imo. If the online or controls or anything is broken and reviews mention it people will skip it. If it's not then this'll be one of the best FPS out on the market with the other big hitters to compete against.
There are individual blades of grass in MAG, volumetric smoke effects and more impressive explosions than the ones found in lost planet 2. The vegetation (the trees, to be precise) looks also almost as good as the one found in Lost Planet 2. Perhaps what's impressive about Lost Planet is its lighting and the detailed characters, but MAG doesn't fall that far behind and it's possible that LP2 footage is from the PC version (similar to what was done with the Gears 1 bullshots back then), not to mention that the majority of PS3 games have had their graphics upgraded significantly in the last few months of development unlike 360 games which start with high graphics quality in the beginning but stay that way (like it happened with Gears and pretty much every other game, even Alan Wake demo (PC version) looked impressive already when it was first shown, long before the actual release of the game which is who knows when). See infamous, resistance 1, resistance 2, uncharted, killzone 2, motorstorm 1 & 2, just to name a few, and see how they evolved from one development stage to another, especially in the final stages.
@zlatko, above:
"The reviews will sell this game more than anything imo. If the online or controls or anything is broken and reviews mention it people will skip it. If it's not then this'll be one of the best FPS out on the market with the other big hitters to compete against. "
IMHO, the reviews will sell to the first batch of consumers. If this game is anything like SOCOM, it will fail miserably as it started bad and even with the fixes it's not good enough (I bought it and hated it). However, if this game is anything like Warhawk, it'll start good enough, and it'll end near perfect, meaning that some will buy it initially, and the game will have long legs due to word of mouth. I think word of mouth could help sell this, it just needs to get up to speed.
I wish it launches without needing updates and patches after the beta, but unfortunately the odds of that are too low if we judge by the evidence of past games. Let's hope I'm wrong on this one.
Amazingcookie:"Some of the vegetation looks good on Lost Planet 2 but as I said it's probably not interactive"
check out: http://www.gametrailers.com... in HD, go to 1:27. it shows grass responding to a shock wave from a blast. around 1:43, the monster bug thing steps on the ground causing the grass around its foot to wave away from it(guessing its from the impact of the stomp). there's more of that in the video. just pointing out one of them.
on topic: can't wait for this game. 256 players is crazy. hope its split screen damnt
WOW the game looks really GOOD for 256 players!!!!!! now where are the haters?????? man I can't see one here yet,are they carying??? sucks if you are not a PS3 owner now!!
And yet it still looks insanely good. True that its very early in development, but thats why the Zipper hasn't released the game now.
Once its polished and everything, I'm sure it will be one of the best FPS games this generation. Yet another great exclusive game to look foward to from Sony. :D
I dont' understand dudes/dudettes When people who only have an xbox 360 see stuff like this how can't they feel there's something wrong with their online gaming experiences on the 360? ... and they're actually paying for it? That's just madness.
When was the last time the 360 fanbase got excited about an up coming exclusive game? Weather it be a downloadable game, an online only game or a full disc game.
The last I could remember was last year for Geow2 but this year there hasn't been one game to solidly hold onto so far. You may mention Alan Wake but nothing solids been shown to the community on this game and it's one that was supposed to come out years ago.
No new exclusives at all to talk about on the 360 but on the PS3 we see games that the PS3 fanbase are excited about and anticipating like Fat Princess, Uncharted2, Infamous, DC online, Killzone 2, MAG etc etc in so many genres and mediums.
I'm just wondering, if you don't' have a current gen system, why would you want to go out and buy a 360 at this point in time? Hell, why would you want to only own a 360 in the first place - it has no games to speak of. Every single game it has you can get on some other gaming platform so... what's the point? No seriously, I want to know and be educated on this.
This thing has been in development since before the PS3 came out. It looks amazing considering how many people will be playing at once. It looks kinda like a PS2 game, but like I said with Confrontation, that isn't a bad thing.
It will probably look a little bit better once its released, but as long as it runs smooth with minimal lag everything will be fine.
online gaming is better on ps3, exclusives r better and more on ps3, better games on ps3, better hardware with ps3, more abilities with ps3, cheaper than 360 if u consider it in the long term(3/4 years) with Xbox LIVE etc!!
if someone cant find reasons to buy a ps3 then there is definitely no good reason to buy 360 over ps3!!
i guess everyone has the choice when it comes to owning a console, its a matter of being realistic and seeing both of the big consoles are pretty evanly matched yet both offer different things.
for me personally i download alot from XBLA, and there is so much exclusive content on there, banjo kazooie, banjo tooie and soul caliburare just a few.
i also love games like fallout 3 and tomb raider underworld, and as much as people complain about DLC i think its awesome to get extra content for these games, bring on broken steel!
i cant say much about online gameing, i dont bother with paying for gold, i wouldnt even use it much if it were free, but as much as i would like it to be free it is a service, and a pretty good one when you look at how much content you can get from XBL. a gold membership also gives you discounts on game content too, so they are actually trying to give some incentive i guess, at the end of the day you pay for a phone line, power, internet plan, cell phone....
the last exclusive i got excited about was probably falbe 2, ok so its been out for awhile, but that game keeps on giveing, im really excited about the "see the future" content, i play alot of games, some old some new, there hasnt been much to interest me lately but im not short of games to play trust me. and like everyone else i have a nice wee list of games im looking forward too, they dont all have to be exclusive, DR2 looks sweet and so does bioshock 2 and the new FF game, and im waiting to hear more about lost planet 2 and mass effect 2, its going to be a great year nomatter what console you own.
i would get a ps3 just for the exclusives, its really only MGS and uncharted that interest me at the moment tho, so im in no hurry to fork out all that cash, ill happily wait another year or so for a price drop, i think the main reason 360 is doing well even with the lack of announced games is due to its low price point, it will be interesting to see how many exclusives are shown for 360 at E3.
I think you misunderstood...I think what was meant was that there was too much "filler"...would have been nice to see more gameplay...not that the gameplay was bad...just left us wanting to see more
- Air strikes - Anti-air missiles - Tanks - Changing environs (trains move through them, explosions can destroy certain obstacles) - Helicopters can deliver reinforcements
Massive Action Graphics
Not bad
Looks very early
I actually hated the Trailer...I was hoping to see more, but instead they seemed to spend more effort on the presentation over the gameplay itself
