PS3 unable to surpass Xbox 360 until mid-2008, may peak in 2009, say Taiwan game firms

The PS3, althought till now in an overall bad shape, should surpass Xbox 360 one year in future.

"Viewing that the sales performance of the PlayStation 3 (PS3) has been far short of Sony's original expectations since its launch in November 2006, the PS3 will be unable to surpass the Xbox 360 in terms of global market status until mid-2008 when its games library reaches a sufficient size, and then may reach its peak in 2009, according to Taiwan games developers/operators.

The PS3 is less competitive than the Xbox 360 in terms of number of titles and with the Wii in the creativity of its games, according to the sources. There are only 11 games specifically developed for the PS3, and Sony's 3D web community platform PlayStation Home is not yet available, the sources indicated.

However, the PS3 will eventually see a turning point in global market competition when more games are available and PlayStation Home provides a complete variety of services, the sources noted."

360 has all the games especially ones that were ones PS only so when it comes to games and a fantastic online service that actually lets you play with EVERYONE AROUND THE WORLD unlike the *cough* PS3 *cough* what more do you need?

I think the PS3 will be soon forgotten as the brand leader and Xbox will be the new name in the lights.

Sometimes I wonder how qualified these analysts are. Often they talk complete and utter crap

Stupid analysts. I don't believe that all this is getting approved. Analysts don't play games, they analyse figures. End of.

Analyst are only doing their job in the end. They are like Stock Brokers, trying to predict the market. I bet you, some never touched a gaming system in their lives. I'm sure they look at past data and current trends, and try to make predictions.

Sometimes I don't know what the Funk they are thinking saying certain things but, it must be one easy job. Now go ahead and do some research and see what they were saying about the PSone/two, Original Xbox and the Xbox360 then you can only see how much of a moron they all can sound.

Then again they are paid well, to be just that sometimes.

I seriously would like to understand their logic. Mid-2008? Does this mean that after that Microsoft will sit on their hands and do nothing? The Xbox 360 wills simply stop selling and the PS3 will sell more regarless of what Microsoft does? (i.e. get more Sony exclusives such as final fantasy and/or metal gear) or release more xbox 360 exclusives? How about the impact that IPTV and LiveAnywhere can have on console sells? How about XBox 360 price drops? I'm sorry for being skeptical about this but it's a bit difficult to come up with an intelligent explanation around the Idea that after a company dominates the console market for 2-3 years, have a larger installbase, taken most exclusive from Sony, etc they will simply allow Sony to take it.
If you notice all these prediction are base on the fact that Sony will pull up the magic trick and release their games; None of them consider what microsoft may do to prevent Sony from taking the market.
But ohh well, I guess they have to do this to keep investors buying their stocks. Besides the Idea that Sony [Will] do, the games [will] come, the online service [will] improve, games [will] look better seems to be working just fine. why not tell people that the PS3 [will] also win the console war? Too bad we have to wait 1-2 years to see these [will]s.
