New Line grabs Gears movie rights [Update: 2009 release]

Variety is reporting last week that New Line Cinema has acquired the movie rights to Gears of War. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce the film, which is being written by Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Collateral).

That is about one year too late for a Gears movie. Gears 2 will be out sometime next year. I would release the movie simultaneously with the new game to rake in the profits. To me, 2009 is WAY too late.

"Which is being written by Stuart Beattie," SWEET! Directed by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino or maybe Ridley Scott. :-]

Made considering that Halo is still not in development so why should they even bother with this one if there going to fight over it to see whos going to be the director of this over hyped game.

Dont get me wrong, I love gears - but that game hardly has enough story to make a 30 second commercial let alone a feature film

GEARS has no story what so ever. so the movie will be some bs story seprate from the game...what little there was to it.

Why do you think story and script writers exists. Let me guess this straight. Companies can make 10 movies based on Tomb Rader, Doom and other video games but heck even a movie for God of war is comming but they cannot make a movie base on gear of war. We are talking about Alies/mutans, hard @$$es characters and guns. lots of guns.

Come on, you know you were thinking it ;D
