EA Sports Home Complex Review

The Admin of E4G writes "Yesterday EA and Sony decided to release the most anticipated space for Home "The EA Sports Complex". Now there are quite a few features in this home space, you can go for some racing action and play some good old poker. Now this is when EA's Sport Complex was done right. When you go to a minigame that is open, it shows you how many players are in the game or how many are needed/waiting."

... Home and XBL are two totally different things. Its like me saying

Apples > Cars

edgeofblade5476d ago

Some recent pictures of Xbox Live Primetime lead me to believe MS is making their own "virtual world".

http://www.worthplaying.com...

And this space is a bust just like the others. Why, oh why, am I stuck waiting for a poker game to open up while the two players left d*ck around with the minimums just to piss off the people waiting. Why can't we get matched into games in a different instance? Why can't we just wait in line instead of spending 30 minutes bouncing from table to table?

FarEastOrient5476d ago

People are going to start reviewing Playstation Home spaces now? If they are going to start reviewing the mini-games that are embedded into home like Xi than these articles are going to be interesting.

YungXclusive2K95476d ago

That EA Space is a fail, the God Father 2 space has poker, the Racing game is ok but what happened to the 3v3 half court avatar basketball and 5v5 touch football and boxing. This home space is a failure and i know im gonna get disagrees from the ps fanboys and im a playstation fan

WTF is up with the EA Golf Coming soon thats some bull $#it

callahan095476d ago (Edited 5476d ago )

@Yung:

It's free. They already said the space will be expanded upon over time. Would you rather they hadn't released anything yet and shelved it all until everything you wanted was done and ready to go? In the mean time you'd have nothing. The way they're doing it, you get something now. And more later. And again... it's free, so it's not like you bought some retail product that was incomplete and then had to wait AND pay extra for the DLC to finish the product. It's free and they're releasing each part of it as its ready. This is a GOOD thing, stop trying to make it out like it isn't.

I can't help but feel this strange feeling that Home is still pretty boring.

I'm gonna log in and do everything in the EA sports complex and within 2 days I'll get bored of it.
The damn glitching idiots will arrive, along with the girl avatars that are actually men.

Sometimes I wonder if half the people on Home even play PS3 games.

FragMnTagM5476d ago

Those are the exact same things that annoy me about Home also.

cliffbo5476d ago

i hope half of the people on HOME don't play games. that means that Sony are getting it right. you do understand what HOME is really all about right?

edgeofblade5476d ago

You mean Home isn't about playing games?

You mean the purpose of Home is to run around, being bombarded by advertising and playing a handful of poorly conceived not-games after waiting in a not-line?

You're kidding, right?

Ryo-Hazuki5476d ago (Edited 5476d ago )

HOME is a huge social space...to play mini-games and what not. Who gives a damn if you're getting hit w/ advertisements...you're not paying a dime to even worry about it...the sh** is free

ActionBastard5476d ago

Yeah, Home isn't about playing games. Its purpose is to connect OTHER PS3 owners/gamers with each other...for free. Now, in no way is that as good as paying for the Internet twice...to see ads...but it IS fun and executed nicely. Xi is phat, the game spaces alone make Home worth it and receiving announcements BEFORE the media (Play as The Joker says "Oi!") is something I'm willing to suffer through.

I appreciate your work EA

I need HELP:I can't get into home,it says "there's a problem downloading content"

???

it happen in each home update but this still going on

edgeofblade5476d ago

Raving review of a disappointing feature.

...I guess that will teach me to turn off your ignore flag.

iHEARTboobs5476d ago

If someone doesn't like something, why do they try so hard to convince people it sucks? If you don't like it, that's fine, but move on.

Panthers5476d ago

Home is starting to look very interesting. A great place to talk to others about gaming. That is the best thing about it I see so far.

When I get a bigger HDD I will download Home again (i am still on the 20GB and its killing me)

ActionBastard5476d ago

80GB for $45 or 120GB for $50 http://www.newegg.com/Produ...

Upgrade! (Also, GO STEELERS!)

EA: Home Is Extremely Powerful

PlayStation Home, a community based service created by Sony Computer Entertainment's London and Cambridge studios, launched to the public in the fall of 2008. Since its inception, it has received a massive amount of new spaces, updates, and features. One of the most robust spaces, EA's Sports Complex, has attracted many Home users in part because of the assortment of mini games and free content that they offer. Today TheGamerAccess.com is glad to announce that they have the Lead Producer of the EA Sports Complex with them to answer some of their questions.

I truly feel that the EA Sports Complex is the best space to date in PlayStation Home.

jwatt5379d ago (Edited 5379d ago )

Yea I was going to say that, not only does it have poker but it has stat tracking and your own bankroll. Only thing is they need more tables because there so many people trying to play.

I also think more third party developers are starting to see the benefits of home, and Ea is definitely leading the way.

Maddens Raiders5379d ago (Edited 5379d ago )

yes it is. And there is nothing better than the Ward of Despair (in the Siren space) and the Namco Museum spaces imho. The Ward of Despair is a virtual rave - can't tell you how many little honeys I've met there, and just overall cool people on a whole.

With that said these two apps w/i an app only scratch the surface. I just bought NCAA 10 today........now only if EA could make their damn football games a little more ((powerful))......ahh I ask too much don't I? lol

starvinbull5379d ago

EA stunned me when they launched the space. So much branding and architecture it doesnt just feel like a room it feels like EA heaven. They need to add more to it obviously but I'm telling you now that Home will be huge. Before the EA space I was in two minds whether people would jump on boiard but now it's pretty obvious that those that don't support it will be at a disadvantage.
As far as core gamers go when their favourite game is supported in home they'll have a look. When they best clans in resistance and killzone are launching from Home then we'll know it's truly working properly.

I personally want to see a LBP space in home.

MetalGearBear 5379d ago

yeah, it true.
it more powerful than non-home bored Mii.

Nick2120045379d ago

The one thing you do have to hand to the Nintendo Miis is that you can actually use them inside of full fledged games unlike PlayStation Home, but other than that, I agree with you.

WildArmed5379d ago

lol @ 'full fledged' i dont know why but it made me laugh :D

Nice interview, good to see EA really investing time into Home, can't wait for other developers to do the same

"TheGamerAccess.com: If you could change one thing about Home, what would it be?

Rob Burnett: I would add more muscles to my avatar, my guy is way too skinny!"

I was thinking the same thing!

PHOSADRA5379d ago

I am someone who enjoys Home and loves the updates.
Everyone won't like Home but those who do will have a great time.

EA is doing well with Home and if other devs do the same Home will become even better!

There are nice features that require interactions with other people
such as the Buzz space and Ward of Despair. They even provide lots of solo fun with Namco and the Events Space(play fat princess yet?)
The new theater now has 10 screens!

As I said before everyone won't like Home. But if they come back in a little while I wouldn't be suprised if they changed their minds!

Nick2120045379d ago

I agree that they are doing a great job of bringing us content, but they need to focus on features and other things to keep us coming back longer and more often. I cannot wait until they get the full movies and tv shows playing in the theater. That is the kind of stuff they need to add besides many of these worthless spaces.

Also we are now back to four HOME locations as the Announcements area seems to have gone..

Good deal. Home is really starting to come around. It actually looks pretty cool and it's free. Have to check it out when I get off work.

morganfell5478d ago

Home has taken a few shots to the head from critics. Some of it was justified. I did not have an issue with that. The area where I strongly disagreed with certain persons, and we know the type, are those unwilling top see what Home can become and where it is going.

These person were out to attack home because their console affiliation drove them to do so out of envy and fear. The EA Home space is a huge Tony Montana sized finger for such deniers.

WhittO5478d ago (Edited 5478d ago )

Ye, the U.S Home is coming along very well, as for the Europe Home Space.....

I think we will see this in the EU Home in about 3-4 months time.

EDIT @ below

wwoooooo lol, thats great! thought we were gona have to wait ages for this one, hope they hurry up the other spaces though.

The only prob right now in Home (for me) is that you can barely customise ur Personal Space AT ALL (without paying), i think if you were able to put posters up, import your own wallpaper graphics etc it would be 10 X better for me.
But im sure that will come when its not in beta form anymore.
Also, i forgot - anyone else think Trophy rooms at E3 ? Hope they do a live conference broadcast thing in there like last year too, that would be sooo great.

LeShin5478d ago

lol man, it's in the European Home (at least in the UK), I was there a minute ago :)

GVON5478d ago

It's in the EU home now,I just finished playing poker with my sombrero and 50's shades.I seriously looked the part.

The space is still in beta so not everything is running yet but it's looking good so far.

Capt CHAOS5478d ago

There are even dedicated chat shows that go on about home.

</sarcasm>

Yes, I'm sure I'll get a PS3 one day but Home will be last think that I'll use, if ever.

WhittO5478d ago (Edited 5478d ago )

you never know, by the time you get one there may be Huge trophy Rooms which look amazing and show off all the stuff you have done in your games and go to other players trophy rooms to see their greatest accomplishments etc.

Or maybe Sony will start announcing stuff in conferences in home instead of using blogs etc, which we can all go to (like E3 last year),im sure you would log in to see that!

Mindboggle5478d ago

SCEE have actually done something useful. They have stuck the US version in the UK home. I think I would rather have this than wait like 2 months for them to change some vowels here and there for a UK version.

Kleptic5478d ago

what I simply don't understand is how Sony isn't doing anything with their first party stuff yet...

no Resistance 2 space...no LBP space...no killzone 2 space...no wipeout space...etc, etc, etc...

all three of these titles say 'home' on the back of the box...yet none of them even have an announced space coming...they put one up for Warhawk kind of recently, and it is cool...but I hope that isn't a trend...where you get a home space 1.5 years after the game releases...

the potential for Home has always been there...anyone that argues against that is simply an idiot...but Sony surely isn't tapping that potential with much authority just yet...

The Star Trek uniforms are also up on Home and they are all FREE.

But don't wear them in the EA room. I was chased out of there but a group of people shouing Nerd.

WhittO5478d ago

lol, its annoying that everyone thinks Trekkies are freaks because they dress up in Uniforms, when MILLIONS of people dress up in their fav sports team's kit and even paint their face and everything

Anyway, isnt there supposed to be an interview in Home with J.J.Abrams ?
The new Trek film is gona own, it already has amazing early reviews.

GVON5478d ago (Edited 5478d ago )

lol ¦D

It's cool starting to see different costumes and different looking people on it,and I noticed a few new brands in the V store.

Lucreto5478d ago

"its annoying that everyone thinks Trekkies are freaks because they dress up in Uniforms, when MILLIONS of people dress up in their fav sports team's kit and even paint their face and everything"

I say the same thing and I make fun of people who wear sports kits and I compare them to star trek uniforms. They say but it is different but don't say why.

I think the interview was last monday.

WhittO5478d ago

ye thats the same response i get haha, its just more "socially acceptable" to like sports rather than star trek lol.

Mindboggle5478d ago

We should start a Star Trek riot and run in the EA Space all Dressed in Star Trek costumes. That would be a laugh.

Dipso5478d ago

People in Home..calling you a nerd?!! Priceless

WhittO5478d ago (Edited 5478d ago )

lol! that would be so funny! They would have no choice but to convert to a "trekkie"

boss_killa5478d ago

star trek uniforms? haha. when is sony gonna come out with killzone skins? i want to walk around home in my helghast costume.

Lucreto5478d ago

I have see people in the helghast costumes but I don't know how they got them. There are Resistance 2 ones but you have to pay for those.

Max Power5478d ago

the killzone skins were from pre-ordering via Amazon.

WhittO5478d ago

i hate that you have to pay for so much stuff in Home, wish they would give out alot more clothes/costumes for free
