PS3 and PSP price drop unofficially confirmed, PSP 2 scheduled for late 2009:

PS3Gen french website reveals that an internal source, which has already proved reliable, confirmed that a price drop of the Playstation 3 and the PSP is scheduled for early June. The price drop may correspond to the E3 convention.

The PSP's price will drop to 169 euro (instead of 189 euro), and the new price of the PS3 is unknown, but its price could drop to 299 euro.

The source revealed that the PSP 2 is expected, and should be out before the end of the year.

unofficialy announced? i call bs :-)

SickNick854096d ago

it's a rumor... they can't say official because it isn't official

leila014096d ago

I know a lot of people that'll pay for a 300€ PS3.

WhittO4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

Unofficially Confirmed = Rumour

I have a feeling though all these new 360 bundles are in preparation for a ps3 price-cut?
could they know something we dont ?

heroicjanitor4096d ago

How many times has a price cut been "confirmed" and then didn't happen? It is possible that this is just the competition trying to stop people buying a ps3, because they won't if they think a price-cut is coming.

joydestroy4096d ago

"Of course, we still take this information with tongs, until Sony makes an official announcement."

as will i

Doppy4096d ago

All these PSP 2 rumors is the reason I haven't bought a new PSP. Mines broke a couple of months ago, and I want to get another one, but if the PSP 2 is coming out I'll just wait until then. I guess E3 will tell.

All-34096d ago

Everyone forgets that Sony has already dropped the PS3 price... but there's also this:

Peter Dille, senior vice president of Sony Marketing and PSN service at SCEA, recently stated: "We're not going to make a price move for PS3; we're not going to be packing five free games into a promotional strategy."

gaffyh4096d ago

I call bullshit. PS3, PSP price drop will probably happen. But imo this is not an "internal source" but just these guys guessing, and when it comes true they'll say "Our internal source was right!". I don't see PSP2 happening this year AT ALL.

snaz274096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

heroic janitor hit the nail on the head there! its a ploy to put people off buying a ps3 cos they fear it will drop in price in a couple of months... it was confirmed as being announced at gdc about the price drop lol... its total bs and i dont get why these stupid articles get approved!

king dong24096d ago

i'm not short of cash, i've got a shed load of games just waiting to be traded and put in the war-chest...and i'm just dying to have resistance2, kz2 and mag, but i know i'm going to be gutted if i buy a ps3 for 400euros and they drop the price shortly after!! it's not about the money.

i'm gonna wait til e3 and see what gets announced before i jump...

especially now as you can get the xfire adaptor allowing you to use the 360 pad. if they drop the price, i'll be able to buy a wired 360 pad, adaptor and and blue-tooth headset with the money i've saved.

Tito Jackson4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

You know, People shouldnt wait around for a price drop.
The PS3 can be found online at ebay and craigslist for a cheap price.
Sure its used, but the PS3 hardware is very reliable, so it doesn't matter if its used---it will still play games and movies. Not to mention people will usually bundle all their games with it, so you can hit the ground running :)

snaz274096d ago

alright mate i do understand what your saying but by that logic you may aswell wait 10 years then the ps3 will be really cheap like the ps2 lol... and besides seriously its not gonna happen mate it didnt at gdc and it didnt months before that and it wont at e3... the tech sony is selling is only just braking even they will not go back into the red already when its just broken even... anyway its more than worth the price trust me... if you just keep waiting and waiting your missing out lmao... i mean its not like its gonna kill me if you dont get one after all i have mine lol but i wouldnt like to see you missing out or listening to this price drop bs

Lifendz4096d ago

If it's unofficial then how can it be...nvm. I've never seen so much demand for a price drop. Not even during the Neo Geo 3D0 days.

Einhander4096d ago

Are these people who have "sources" ever right?

king dong24096d ago

i dont even think the ps3 is breaking even...

anyway, what i'm saying is, i dont want to get one next week(which was my plan, then a couple of days ago i thought that sony mite drop this one at e3), if they announce a price drop at e3! i'm waiting for e3 before i buy!

what-ever happens, i'm getting one after e3!

i'm just hoping it's a little cheaper when i buy it that's all.

snaz274096d ago

alright dude well then i hope there will be a price drop announcement at e3 for ya so it was worth the wait... but just you watch when it doesnt happen there will be another post just like this one but moving the goal post to september or something it has been endless mate... and if they are not breaking even then they are not far off it... but thats just more reason to get one now i mean how many products get sold at cost or even at a loss? lol... either way after e3 your gonna be a happy man cos the ps3 rocks i have it on pretty much 24/7 there is just so much you can do with it... good luck anyway

andron4096d ago

Here in Norway the PS3 has had a temporary price drop in april. It has sold for 3290 instead of the usual 3995 as long as stock lasts.

It might indicate that they are trying to get the current stock out to make room for some new deal come E3. We'll see then...

aueslander4096d ago

....if a price drop does happen here in the US, most stores (like Best Buy and circuit city when it was open) will honor the price diff for up to 90 days. So, buy it, hold onto receipt, and if in 90 days it drops, take in receipt, show it to them, and they will give you back the difference.

Of course I dunno if stores in Europe do this.

II-Reaper-II4096d ago

I wish people would stop speculating. Some gamers see this and hold off on buying the PS3.If u cant afford the PS3 then wait till it drops in price.Until then shut up and stop posting stupid rumors until it is confirmed.

this account will be destroyed by microsoft supporters.

Today is the beginning of the end for them.

remember this message. some of you smart members will automatically know what i am talking about.

I wont state it here in my message, only as a means to not have my post a strategy if you must.

just think. its finished.

Immortal Kaim4096d ago

I hope this is true, I will pick up a PS3 as soon as that price drops. Wonder if it would translate to a significant price drop in Aus though? Of course, if it actually happens...

ThanatosDMC4096d ago

So what's that in US dollars? I'm on my PSP in the college's library and it's past midnight here...

So were is the unofficial proof besides speculation like anyone can do? Check my speculation:

Now there you go. I have unofficially confirmed this. Get me a newsitem.

Unbiased14096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

i think you mixed Sony and MS, MS just reported 30 million USD loss for last quarter. stop trolling kid, that is not exclusive to you, or you will spend most of the time in "open" zone that no one reads.

Pennywise4096d ago

MS is losing money buying DLC. MS is not giving its gamers anything to be excited about. You will mention some games coming out, but they are games we all know about which are unproven. Where is the new exclusives?? NO WHERE. You suck and your brand of choice sucks.

You guys have already been made to look stupid with the format war. Now Sony is going for the throat and MS has nothing to combat it. Keep holding on to the dream, kid.

Foxgod4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

MS did not lose money, MS globally actually saw a 2 % increase in profit, it was a subdepartment of MS called MS entertainment that lost money (2%), MS entertainment also includes the Zune, not just the 360.

So people should stop the whole MS lost money thing, cause they actually increased profit by 2 %.

ultimolu4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

"Microsoft Corp. today announced revenue of $13.65 billion for the third quarter ended March 31, 2009, a 6% decline from the same period of the prior year. Operating income, net income and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $4.44 billion, $2.98 billion and $0.33 per share, which represented an increase of 3% and declines of 32% and 30%, respectively, when compared with the prior year period.

The financial results for the third quarter ended March 31, 2009, included $290 million of severance charges related to the previously announced plan to reduce up to 5,000 positions and $420 million of impairments to investments. Combined, these two charges reduced earnings per share by $0.06.

Revenue in Client, Microsoft Business Division, and Server & Tools was negatively impacted by weakness in the global PC and Server markets. Revenue from enterprise customers remained stable during the quarter."

...No Foxgod, no.

They're losing money in the PC market. That's Microsoft's bread and butter there.

Foxgod4096d ago

Thats periodic, aka third quarter, taken the whole year, third quarter to third quarter, they made profit.

king dong24096d ago

you almost seem pleased that microsoft's revenue was down six percent...and seeing as we are in a very difficult economic crises, it's to be expected.

the UK(thats the united kingdom incase your not too sure..i know only 10% of americans have a passport, so perhaps you mite get confused) has just posted it's worst economic figures in gdp for 30 years!!!!

i wonder how your beloved sony will do when it's figures are published?

still 13b is not to be sniffed at.

Foxgod4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

Sony will post worse numbers then MS, and if you wanna know why ?
It because the production of all of japan went down by 60 %
And the export went down by 77%

I highly doubt sony will be lucky enough to avoid this export disaster currently going on in Japan.
So ultimolu, expect to get you face stuffed with your own cake when Sony releases their numbers early May.

You proved nobody wrong, your trolling with a quarterly report.

ultimolu4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

Hello kingdong2, weren't you kingdong 1?

Where in my comment did I say I was please with Microsoft losing anything? How do I seem pleased with it? Do I not own a PC? How could I be pleased with it?

I proved Foxgod wrong.

Please show me.

Keep up with those troll accounts 360 fanboys. Keep it up.

Pennywise4096d ago

You cant argue with someone like Foxgod who works on the stock market, owns high percentage of stocks in both MS and Sony. He sits on the board for both companies. Foxgod knows exactly what he is talking about because of inside trader information passed to him. If you try to argue with a smart guy like Foxgod, you will lose.... He is a seasoned market analyst with impeccable percentage of getting things right.

In closing. Fox, you fail. You know jack squat.

Foxgod4096d ago

Actually, you summed up that i dont fail.

Pennywise4096d ago

Foxgod, your sarcasm detectors battery is low.

Traveler4096d ago

Tell me the truth, Foxdog, do you work for Microsoft?

Yi-Long4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

... sounds nice, but I bought my current PS3 for 360 euro last november orso, and that was including 2 games (1 game free of choice, and one from the platinum collection; I chose FIFA09 and Resistance)

Ah well, it's a step in the right direction, and I'm sure it will boost sales again for PS3. Especially with the nice line-up they have.

I wouldn't be surprised if they'd bundle in Little Big Planet btw. the game is under 20 euro at many e-tailers, but it's a great game and Sackboy is pretty much the new 'mascott' for Sony, so that would be a nice move.

1233604096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

yeah 360 losing money totally caught me off guard, its revenue was down 2% from quarter 2008,yet theres alot more sales for 2009.i thought it would be up considering a bigger install base and selling more quarter i think may be worse when you factor e74 refunds and in warranty repairs, loss made on console and reduction of live fees.if sony brings out across game chat that would take even more members away from seems to be there main money maker of for the price drop of 100 euros thats a lot to ask for.45nm chips were supposed to hit late feb, they might have a new slim version coming failing that theres been some major cut backs on components used inside.

Foxgod4096d ago

Actually, the subdep of MS called MS entertainment, also includes the Zune, not just the 360, it covers any form of entertainment that MS covers.

So it might have been the Zune that dragged down MS entertainment.

EvilGost4096d ago

I think it's possible. Koller said: "It will be an amazing E3" perhaps...

Sev4096d ago

When will people realize that there is no PSP2, and there won't be one for at least 2 more years. At LEAST.

Price drop yes, PSP2 no.

There is a new model PSP coming, just not a PSP2, or a PSP-4000.

You will all see soon.

Argento-Nox4096d ago

I wasn't expecting PSP2 either, maybe a PSP 1.5? Either way, I'm interested to see what the new PSP will look like, especially since I want a 2nd PSP as backup to the one I have (^_^).

locos854096d ago

What would make more of an impact?
A console price drop?
or a new game release price drop from 59.99 to 49.99?

RememberThe3574096d ago

But this could be a case of a new PSP model being mistaken for a brand new PSP system(PSP2).

DARKKNIGHT4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

i agree.

backup? lol i think this new psp will completely replace your desire of even charging the old one. but thats just my opinion.

i had the launch fat, then launch slim, and i have no doubt in my mind about coppin this 3rd gen on launch.

well, my friends 360 rrOD'd while playing TRAINING DAY on hdvd. that tops your cake.
