Console Heroes writes: "One of the things that has always drawn me to the Xbox Live Arcade is that there are so many games that have you doing things you would never see in a retail title. I'm a sucker for a quirky game concept, and many games on XBLA fit the bill perfectly. Capcom's latest XBLA release Flock! is one such game, and has you playing the part of an alien UFO helping your mother ship (fittingly called the "Mother Flocker") abduct sheep and other farm animals for some reason or other. Flock! is an interesting and simple little game with some puzzle elements, but can a game about herding livestock into a spaceship really be worthy of your gaming attention? Read on to find out.
In Flock! you control a relatively small UFO that uses it's light beam to herd animals toward the mother ship. It seems simple enough, and in fact it is, but of course there are numerous elements of the game designed to make it more entertaining and complex. There are cliffs the animals can fall off, fences that must be either passed through in some way or mowed over by cows you stampede, predatory wolves that come out in some of the levels, and other such obstacles. As you progress through the game your ship is also outfitted with an array of abilities to help you in your quest, including a tractor beam which you can use to open gates and uproot trees and the ability to make crop circles..."
VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "It's fitting that Flock wants to treat players like its plethora of creatures: softly wooing you to stay as long as you wish. Sure, it still utilizes basic design principles: the wonder of what's hiding beneath the clouds, frilly cosmetics to alter your style, and an engaging collect-a-thon system wedded to the main objective; however, you never feel confined by them. That description may seem too abstract and imperceptible in writing, but that warmth within its design is immediately felt with a controller in hand. Sometimes that relaxed vibe could've been more substantive in its quest structure, but leaning too far would've diminished its unique identity. For whatever creative or technical missteps, virtually anyone who Flock Tuahs Richard Hogg & Hollow Ponds' latest is sure to enjoy it."
