Ezine Review: Demon's Souls

Ezine writes:

"In the end, while it might not have the production values or graphical "WOW" factor of a mainline Final Fantasy title, Demon's Souls has easily usurped the PS3's "best RPG" throne...but with FFXIII slowly approaching, we'll see how long it holds onto the crown. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a New Game + to finish.

+ Dark, gothic atmosphere with solid graphics and excellent level design
+ Surprisingly competent localization, with few glaring translation errors
+ Breathtaking, challenging boss battles
+ Numerous online options for multiplayer fans
+ Vast array of items and equipment pieces to find, mix and match
+ New Game + feature allows for infinite replayability with increasing challenges

- Punishing difficulty may take players by surprise
- Online functions are not particularly well-explained
- Frame rate can chug in certain isolated areas
- Not officially released in US/Europe

It'll come to NA/EU eventually

Great game but very difficult. Need to be patiant as you will die alot and be placed at the beginning of the level each time and bosses can kill in 1-2 shots. But the atmospere alone will keep players playing. Like the way 2 others players can jump into the game to help for a limited time later in the game supposedly.(just started playing so havn't experienced yet). Also a pleyer is supposed to be able to jump into your game for some pvp player action as well. brutal game but really nice.

If its still backordered on Playasia and ncsx, try ebay.

I got a Korean version of the game and it is in full English voice overs and text.

This is the buyer who I got mine from. $3 shipping to Canada, and it only took a week to get here:

Easily one of the best games I've played in the last 10 years!

if you guys are looking for a real challenge choose a melee class. playing ranged/magic will make things much easier haha.

ThanatosDMC3478d ago

After reading reviews and watching gameplay videos... im itching to import this game.

SaiyanFury3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

I imported the game the day it was released and it's the most incredible action RPG experience I have encountered this gen. It is hard. You WILL die. But it's that challenge that is really a positive for this game. It really drives you forward to try and overcome those experiences that are holding you back. It's incredibly rewarding. For fans of the King's Field series on PS1 and 2, GET THIS GAME.

"From and Sony aren't holding your hand along the way".

This is a severe understatement. There is absolutely ZERO handholding in this game. If you want a game that will take you by the hand and lead you through, patting you on the back each time you make a bit of progress, you won't find that here. This game is punishingly difficult but that only serves to make it that much more rewarding each time you advance. You can pat yourself on the back, instead of this wonderful game doing it for you. Believe me, once you finish off one of the hard and huge bosses you'll whoop like Arsenio Hall and yell out "YES!" everytime, I can almost guarantee that.

Flipgeneral3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

If you enjoy dungeon crawlers at all, this is for you.

It's difficult, but very manageable. You just need to stay on your toes and pay attention to what you are doing. The punishment is not THAT severe as everyone makes it out to be (bar area 3-1, you'll find out). Usually if you die, it's your fault, and could have been avoided.

Once you get used to the system, the game turns out to be a blast!

Not to mention the non consensual PvP!

To all interested, look at buying the Asian/Korean version on eBay. Even check Amazon. I had to get mine from eBay UK on the day it was released because it was sold out everywhere. Get it, and love it! :D

Hellsvacancy3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

Do these devs not wanna make money y is us westerners always get shafted

Im still wantin White Knight and now this

raztad3478d ago

I got the feeling that the PS3 is too much packed with games this year. Perhaps sony is trying to allocate a better date for this one. Next year could be the RPG year for Western ps3 owners. WKC, Daemon's Soul, ToV and Final Fantasy among others, sounds pretty awesome to me.

Nuclearwinter3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

I don't think this game showing up in Asia only had anything to do with trying to find a better date. They simply underestimated how much attention this game would get. It's clearly a niche title for hardcore gamers so why release it on a mass scale like that? They obviously didn't count on it to be selling out of stock with every shipment.

Look at Afrika, that was hyped up here in the US before it was released, but they only released it in Asian territories because they knew it wasn't going to sell well.

Both games are great and I'm glad I imported them, but I can see why they would hold off on bringing them over to the US.

ebay has competitive pricing to play asia, im just not to sure about the mailing situation out of china.

pippoppow3478d ago

bought mine on ebay for $70 shipping included. Just make sure it's the Asian/chinese version with full English support and not the Japanese or Korean version which have limited English support. Took me 2-3 weeks to receive.

tda-danny3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

Actually the Korean version is in full English as well! It has the same English (VO and Text) as the Asian version, except it is also in Korean instead of also being in Chinese.

The Jap version only has English VO, but the text is all in Japanese.

I own the Korean Version, and can truthfully say it is in full English! No Import worries!!
