I know its hard to believe because most of you here are PS3 fans, and you like to think that your system of choice is the better option in everyway.

But while I was at Bestbuy, we were bothered by all the malfunctions of the consoles when customers returned to geek squad (or called) with problems. PS3 had the most, 360 2nd, Wii hardly ever. 360 has RROD and disk scratching; the rest of its issues are quite rare. PS3 however has a couple hardware issues that we see alot, although not as often as RROD, and a ton of software issues, usually small but annoying. Most are fixed with a reboot. 360 on the other hand almost never needs to be rebooted, like i said its main issue is RROD and disk scratching.

The thing I think I hate about PS3 the most is when it fails, you can't get your games out of it, really sux.

If you believe PS3 is more advanced than the other two then perhaps you can feel better by considering that it has more that can go wrong due to its advanced nature?

I don't know, I have both a 360 and a PS3. I've had a few disc read errors on my 360 where games froze, but I've also had it happen a couple of times with my PS3. Of course, on the PS3 it was only Oblivion that locked up. But that's not the system, that's the game as I've had it lock up on me many times while playing it on my PC. Not only that, I've had Oblivion game saves corrupt on me. Fallout 3 on my PC also locks up regularly, of course that game is based on Oblivion's game engine, which seems to be unstable. I've never had my 360 have a format read problem where it reads a 360 disc as a foreign format asking for a 360 disc. Just my personal testimony here.

@Shbzshar - Your 360 drive is dying. I used to get the same thing, luckily I was still within 1 year of warranty so I got it fixed for free. Call MS (tell them you bought the console like 9 months ago) and if they replace it for free great, but if not you may have to force RROD.

@bravo & others - So basically, PS3 malfunctions more, but these are little errors that do not affect the console. Just need a restart and the console works fine. Most of the time these errors are caused by the user switching the PS3 off from the back when it is still powered up. With the 360, it tends not to have these little errors, but when it starts dying you can't play the console. I've had to send my console in 3 times twice for disk read errors (MS didn't fix it the first time), and once for RRoD.

So major errors more likely on 360, minor errors more likely on PS3.

Prior to installing NG2 on my 360, I have only had one freeze. On my PS3, I had numerous issues with freezing in the browser and in games. See my comment history. It is counter-intuitive that the more difficult architecture to program for is more reliable.

However, since I installed NG2 I had at least 5 crashes/freezes. I don't know if it is the installation or if I need to clear the cache as many recommended. The odd thing is, the game froze, but going to Xbox dash still works....

If anything, I'm convinced of the opposite. Ben Dutka, the author of this article, though is a Sony drone. Just look at his article history. They are all Pro Sony without the opposite view. He probably doesn't even have a 360.

I got chainsawed by my NPC teammate and died. My friend had to run past our split up path and come back to pull me up before I died.

I did a dive roll towards a pillar, I ended up POPPING UP ON TOP of the pillar..and was stuck..my friend had to once again run ahead until I spawned next to him.

I have fallen in those emergence holes lots of times.

I find that PS3 has more issues with system software than any console I have ever owned. Game software on PS3 has been good except KZ2, IT had issues and PS3 game demos are sometimes a mess(crash PS3 leaving a black screen)

Don't pretend PS3 doesn't have issues. Blu-ray playback is sometimes unstable and I get signal loss from the PS3. PS StorE has incomplete software like most of it was tacked on(buy PSN games and the PS3 is struggling so much I feel like its not going to let me buy the game and lose my money.

You name a PS3 error and I probably had it.

Love importing CD's and the PS3 sometimes pop an error but if you keep trying it will follow through.

I'm afraid to multi task on it one time it caused an error trying to do more than one thing at once. That last update killed my PS3 controller connection I finally turned it on and off a few times and it worked.

I'v even had an errors when the console switched resolutions from XMB(1080p) to game(720p) etc the screen went black the console crashed or something.

There was another time when my PS3 switched resolutions when loading a game and these little vertical squiggly lines were in a bar that took one fifth on my screen, when I returned to the XMB screen I had to change resolutions and back again to get rid of them.

My PS3 even confused PSN *game demos* with PSN full demos not letting me own the game until it sunk in so to speak.

Who knows they're so many different types of PS3's that have different hardware specs.

So turning on and off your PS3 a few times will erase software updates. Despite the fact that no other console, nay, computing machine works like that ANYWHERE.

If the last update "killed" your PS3 controller connection, that would be something that would have to be patched. Turning on and off your PS3 a few times won't magically make it work. If that actually did happen to you, it was a glitch, which makes me wonder how you keep your house if you're having this many problems.

Heck, trade it in for another one; or if you were having this many troubles all this time, you should have sent it in for repairs when you had the warranty.

i too also experience a lot of software issues while playing games on xbox 360. i experienced lag, slowdowns and glitches in perfect dark 0. i experienced a lot of freezing issues in oblivion e.s 4. gears of war had a lot of slowdowns, glitches and lag. gears of war 2 came out and have a lot of lag, slowdowns and glitches . even after 3 patches for gears of war 2, it still suffers from a lot of lag, slowdowns and glitches. mass effect had glitches and slowdowns, forza 2 suffered from lag, and slowdowns. s.o.4 suffers from a lot of freezing issues and ive been talking about that since day one.

i myself have always wondered why a lot of xbox 360 games are plagued with problem . gears 2 is my fav game on the xbox 360 and its online is broken because of the excessive lagging and glitching issue. i play killzone 2, resistance 2 , socom confrontation, gt 5 prologue, motorstorm 2 a lot and none of those games have any sort of issues . the software on the ps3 is definitely more stable than that of the xbox 360 .

I've played every game he mentions, with Star Ocean being the only exception (it has not been released here) and I've never experienced the problems he's complaining about. Lost Odyssey had some slow texture streaming, but that's typical of all Unreal Engine games (360 or PS3, doesn't seem to matter). I got my 360 at the end of summer 2007 as well (it was September IIRC).

I've also not had a single issue with any of my PS3 games, either, but I have heard reports of both consoles crashing on occasion. I don't think it's the console itself, I think it's just typical bugs in the games, bugs that would be the same on either system.

The internet browser on the PS3 always crashes on me when loading up certain sites ie n4g.

I tried to find a clear solution, but even after deleting the cache and cookies site still crash.

I haven't had any serious issues on software besides the Socom issues where the game isn't 100% complete i.e. missing features.

Mine died after just 3 weeks of use, and this is no small problem. It certainly isn't on the levels of breaking down Sony diehard fans are spreading over the internet.

Fact is, XBOX fans say yes, RROD is a problem or at least has been, with the latest Jasper doing it right like it should have the first time, at least we have a 3 year warranty.

On the other hand Sony fans deny the BluRay dying diode problem, much like the PS2 DVD diode dying fast was denied, while Sony only covers 1 year of warranty, after that I need to pay 200 Euro, thats half of a new PS3 to get someone elses refurbished PS3 back.

When my PS3 breaks down after just ONE year of warranty, Sony wants me to pay 200 Euro to get SOMEONE ELSES REFURBISHED PS3 back.

Thats half the price of a new one after just ONE year! Thats insane! With the 360 I get 3 years of warranty, if it breaks down after 3 years its dirt cheap to replace, certainly not 200 bucks.

Ok, so the SECOND account you mention has only played a total of THREE games (Gears 1, gears 2 and NBA 07), only has 500 gamerscore, hasn't played any of games the first account hadn't (So still no star ocean or mass effect et all) and STILL hasn't played Gears 2 since January. Well, I'm very happy with my PS3.

It has games I'm interested in and the hardware is reliable. The only minor problems I had with my PS3 is when Uncharted froze on me once and my PS3 overheated when I was playing Godhand so it shut down. Other than that, it works well enough for me. :)

Congratulations Sony, people would rather deal with the hardware problems of the 360 than deal with the disappointment of owning a PS3 instead of a 360. It really is a testament of two things.

1.When the 360 is working it is an incredible machine with a phenomenal software library

2.Working or not the PS3 is mediocre.

Sorry, but the facts are the facts. Its not like Sony is some startup company in the console business. Not only are they not new, but they have nearly a 6 or 7 year headstart on MS in the industry, because the 360 is only MS's second console, and the PS3 is Sony's 3rd. Oh and did I mention Sony dominated the industry with those previous two consoles?

Sorry, but with that type of brand recognition something is drastically wrong with Sony or drastically right with the competition or what is probably most likely a combination of both.

Where would Sony be if the 360 was reliable? Now there is a scary thought for you PS3 fanboys. Btw does any of you know how to fix this Wipeout HD game now that it is updated? Anything I update on this POS3 craps out on me.

I'll just say it like this because Sony has more 1st/2nd party devs they can crank out more exclusives each year then Microsoft can.
Besides Sony to me is showing more progression each year then Microsoft is doing right now.

Wow, I've seen some naive statements, that one is just ridiculous, I own neither system at the time, 360 died three times chuncked it, and PS3 is too expensive in my eyes

PS3 fans would not admit if you did have problems. Those of you who do are stand up individuals, because I know for a fact that PS3 is not as perfect as some of you tools would have everyone to believe.

Like I said b4, for the most part MS is better with the software side of things, while sony is better with hardware. Some of the problems we see with PS3 however are hard to tell if they are hardware or software.

PS3 does overall have more glitches, mostly software and small but still annoying glitches.
While 360 has fewer glitches, but the hardware issues it does have are huge inconveniences.

Nintendo Wii is by far the best put together system.

i thought we were discussing reliability here.. as a wii fanboy, i can brag that the wii is kicking the crapbox ass in terms of sales. and, this year, in terms of software too.. wii fit beat gaylo 3.. LOL

the ps3 hardware is state of the art, 1% failure rate, and blu-ray drive is amazing. my wii can't even play dvd. xbots have hddvd but it's dead and the dvd drive is loud and obsolete.

us with GREAT/AWESOME games!!!! both systems have really bad @$$ exclusives and both provide very solid multiplatform releases, obviously!

But I must say Im on my 6th 360, because of multiple problems. After my 4th, I got tired of waiting for my system returns through MS (even though I've never had problems with their service, unlike stories I've heard/some expierences I've heard my friends had). So my 5th I bought new at Best Buy (core to put my 20gig HD on) and got a 2 year warranty on it so I could do in-store exchanges and it's not that far from my house. Well my 5th was a Jasper, a week in... CRAP'd out!!! I was infuriated as I heard it was going to be the end of all the RROD problems. Im now on number 6 (not a Jasper) and it's running funky since the latest update. Not letting me do parties, group chats, play co-op, etc.. I bet it'll die soon too. But Im covered until April of next year. So until then I will deal with this s#!t, but after... Im just staying PS3 and Wii.

Now my 60 gig PS3 which I didn't get right at launch, I got it at the $100 price drop. I've recently been having troubles with it. I cannot connect a bluetooth headset at all. It won't sync up for the life of it, it's really making me mad. I never played team deathmatches in any game or whatever. But with KZ2 I need it cause you HAVE TO play in team units (I don't like it, but if that's the only way I can play it so be it). I have my headset left from when I owned Warhawk (traded it in cause it wasn't my cup of tea)... and that's the one that won't connect. The headset is becoming a deal breaker for any game released now pretty much. I keep getting ejected from games cause Im headset-less. It's really ruining my enjoyment of online. If that would be fixed, I'd be set with my PS3!!!

I bought MLB 09 The Show yesterday... and my god Im in love. Im not a huge sports fan. But the 2 sports games I've come to love are Fight Night Round 3 and 09 The Show. They both are truely amazing.

But I looked through the handbook for The Show and found it ironic that it promotes pretty much to HAVE the 60 gig model... to transfer data into the game perhaps?... anyone without a 60 gig possibly find this to kinda be giving them the shaft if they don't have a 60 gig model?. Im not stirring crap or anything, Im just curious if anyone caught that in the book!

Video game consoles are becoming like cellphones. The more we are making them do, the less reliable they are becoming. Thus why cellphone upgrade plans come so quick through carriers and console life spans are now going to vastly becoming shorter (Im personally think). Nintendos systems out last damn near any, because they aren't pushed to do too much, but in the end don't provide the expierence that us diehards are dying to have!

P.S. = They really need to release a patch for The Show. Friends and I were getting p!ssed last night with the base stealing in the game, they need to patch that up ASAP!!!!

Glitches and freezing will happen occasionally no matter what console you're playing. I've had the 360 almost since launch, and glitches and freezing have been minimal.

I will tip my hat to Sony and say that Sony has made a very well built machine in the PS3. I'm guessing they put it through the ringer to make sure it was reliable before they released it. Let's hope that MS learns from them and their own billion-dollar mistake of releasing a console before it's ready.
