Sony dropped the Playstation 2 to $99.99 hoping to spur interest in the nine-year-old video game system. They shouldn't expect much of an increases in sales, however.
pretty sure GT5 and persona 4 were/are gonna be blockbusters.
it's not meant to spur more sales, it's meant to stop the steady decline in sales.
I've never had a PS2 and really want one now but no price drop in UK :( There are so many games I wana play that I've missed out on. Anyone know if the price will be dropped in the UK any time soon?
stopping the steady decline is spurring new sales?!?
One cannot stop a steady decline in sales without spurring new sales. In the end, Sony will gain sales due to the price drop and the PS2 will end on a good note in the comming months ahead. Now, if they really wanted to make the system sell like hot cakes, they should have added some sort of Waggle controller and bundled it with a Wii Sports clone developed by EA.
I thought people were joking when they said we were going to see "PS2 is teh doomed" articles.
I think it will boost sales. Not all people are core gamers. A lot of people who have never picked up a game console before could be interested in this. O! and I thought people were joking when they said that we would see "PS2 is doomed" articles
Well funny thing is plenty core gamer actually care about the ps2 ... at the very least very hardcore jrpg fans .
This is why ps3 needs bring back backwards compatibility people are not buying the ps2 because they already have two or three systems or wait it for ps3 to come out start getting ps2 library of games
Maybe cause the whole world already has it.
Funny thing is you do see the effect in some places , and not just amazon . Of course it's not a relaunch like the DSi or psp 3000 , so it wont be the same
I think it will spur sales maybe not to the level of the target $99 sale last february but it will increase sales for a short while.. and ppl need to remember that the PS2 is just launching in certain countries
emerging economies - india; south american countries etc
I think its going to have somewhat of an impact. There dirt cheap.
Not sure alot of people get why they are doing this. Every PS2 sold is profit, even if it's a few thousand more, it's still money, and it still brings people over to the sony brand. If they like, they may even buy a PS3, and that's what SONY wants.
why because everybody has one, my mother even owns one come on people
when a 9 yr old console beats the all new 360 then yes it is a big! difference its more llike a dis actually lol.
when support for the system is finally starting to dwindle. Not as many new titles are expected this year as opposed to previous years.
