PETA takes the fight against seal slaughter to WoW

Destructoid writes: "PETA is taking the fight against Canadian seal slaughterers to the digital plains of World of Warcraft. A call to arms was placed on PETA's official blog this afternoon, asking people to take part in a fight against four Horde miscreants that apparently, uh, kill seals for their luxurious fur.

"Thrall refused to ban the slaughter of seals, despite multiple requests from the Alliance to do so, because Orgrimmar stands to make a large profit from the fur," reads the posting. "Activists from across the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor are banding together to put a stop to the atrocious seal slaughter. Anyone who slaughters baby seals for their fur must surely be in service to the evil Lich King."

So ... if you're hot for some animal activism on a snowy plain, just head on down to Howling Fjord (WhisperWind realm) on Saturday April 11, at 1 P.M. (Eastern). Look for the baby seals and the (presumably) throbbing mass of angry people crowding them. I'm sure it'll be a rousing event."

This isn't the seventies anymore. The hunt has been monitored and regulated for decades now. Your local chicken farm is far more inhumane than the seal hunt. It's necessary to keep the population in check and a vital part of the local economy. Imagine if you went down to a town where everyone worked in the cattle industry and demanded they shut down their farms because, even though your industry was supported and regulated, you personally thought killing cows is inhumane. You'd probably be run out of town.
We may not like the fur industry, some may not be able to accept that there is a market for seal products but it's hypocritical of people to take issue with the seal hunt and yet support the farming industry. If the floor of the slaughterhouse was made of snow the images from there would be just as shocking.

Linking this to WOW is just a sad ploy for relevancy.

You are 100% right.
Glad to see not everybody is ignorant on the issue.

PETA is a disgusting organization, they commit crime and get away with it, the fail to comprehend history and the social structures of people who live off of hunting.
PETA enthusists need to become educated dearly, watch this video and maybe learn a thing or two.

While I deplore the senseless slaughter of defenseless seal cubs I'm afraid if PETA told me it was bad I would double check, if PETA told be the sky was blue I'd have to double check.
PETA (or People for Extortion, Terror and Arson as I think they should be known) are a bunch of lying hypocritical gits!

Remember we are talking about seal CUBS! Not fully grown, not lived much of a life yet!

100% correct. Seal pups, one month to one year old. Their pelts bring in the most money.
Very similar to the sheep industry. Lambs are slaughtered usually when they're about 4 months old. Mmmm...mmm, that's tasty lamb! So are chickens. So is veal.

Maybe it's my farm upbringing but we eat animals. We make things out of animals. We have since the beginning of time. I can't understand why someone would single out this industry over others (well, Peta I can. They're all nuts.)

I'm starting to wonder if there's a single intelligent person left in the world...

Sibs3792d ago

Not in PETA there isn't.
