Editorial: "PS2 Gateway Drug to PS3?" A Special Kind of Stupid

GameStooge reacts in shock (and laughter) at SCEA's John Koller's statement that the PlayStation 2 is a "gateway drug" for the PlayStation 3.

Excerpt: "That statement would be valid - three years ago. People who are buying the PlayStation 2 now for $99 aren't interested in the PlayStation 3. Why in the world would they purchase a PS2 now save price? Does Koller seriously expect people who are looking for a bargain to purchase a $399+ PS3 six months after buying a PS2? A year after? The PS3 is supposed to be the gateway drug for the PlayStation 4. People buying a PS2 are people who want a cheap toy for their kids, basically."

I just love sony pr they say the most funniest sh!t ever.

I find it funny that people take PR talk all serious-like and feel the need to write these absurd articles to defend some absurd and opinionated point of view. Absurd because it is opinionated and lacks substantial sales data, market trends, etc

Not defending PR or anything, but it's there job, and I don't care either way.

"Public relations(PR) is the practice of managing the flow of information between an organization and its publics."

"Almost any organization that has a stake in how it is portrayed in the public arena employs some level of public relations."

"In public relations, "spin" is sometimes a pejorative term signifying a heavily biased portrayal in one's own favour of an event or situation."

Now, I don't find Sony's comments about the PS2 and PS3 out of the relm of possibility. Who's to say that the PS3 will even be $399.99 six months from now? A year from now? Who's to say that brand loyalty is non existent? Who's to say that the 21 million PS3 owners as of right now aren't past PS2 owners? Which all goes back to my first point.

"the only getaway drug to get people to buy a PS3 is a price drop. A big one."

wow, so the more than 21 million people who own PS3s must have had some kind of special discount.

This guy should be more careful with his own comments while, calling someone else stupid.

PLAYSTATION brand loyalty is very strong.
