Echoes Of Time Fails To Impress North American Gamers

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time was released earlier this year in Japan, and it had fairly mediocre sales, especially on the Wii. While the DS sales were a bit more admirable, many were unsure how it would perform when released in the Western world.

I think it was kinda known that it wasn't really going to be anything special.

mephman3788d ago

Yea, but I don't think people expected it to do this badly.

Selyah3788d ago

Yeah thats true, i don't think reviews were totally awful either at least a few i've seen have said that the game was worth owning for the co-op side of things so on reflection, I guess its surprising.

This is the first time I'm hearing of this game.
No matter how good a game can be (not saying this one's good or bad), if nobody knows it's coming out... well they wont buy it.

The Wii version is pretty crap, visually. Looking at Arc Rise Fantasia, it's pretty evident SE could have done much better in that department. I'll go for the DS version.

if they didn't make such a stupid design choice on the first one I might have considered this game.

seriously forcing everyone to have a GB advance + stupid connection wire to play on the gamecube was aweful!

I'm also over my DS I do all my portable gaming on my PSP these days.

EDIT: maybe its time for SE to start putting more resources into pushing new IP's.

This is bad, the game's great, probably one of the best portable games out there and the online is awesome.

EDIT: Also considering they built a new engine for the cross platform play and I knew about it months before it was released I don't think it was just a cash-in especially considering it's one of the(if not the) best multiplayer DS games out there(and probably Wii).

It was first announced about 4 months before it was actually released in Japan. Doesn't that strike you as odd? Most games are announced at least 6 months before they're due for launch.

Seferoth753788d ago

Actually the game was announced long ago but the Wii port of the game wasnt mentioned til close to launch time. I really do not see the big deal. The Wii version is the exact same as the DS version only not portable. Who would really want it? I'd get it for the DS long before I got it for Wii. The Wii version is just a last minute cash in to make up for poor support. NO reason to reward them for that

Myst3788d ago

Well I found it fun at least something to hold me over until the next one comes out.

It's FF sales like this that make me doubt MS's claim that they'll outsell the PS3 for FFXIII. If the N.A market isn't going to support FF on arguably the best selling console so far this gen, who's going to believe MS's FFXIII claim is anything less than absurd?
