PS3 1.6 Firmware Details Confirmed

The new firmware, which hits the U.S. on Thursday, will come with the coolio Folding@home program, support for Bluetooth mice and keyboards, a new full QWERTY on-screen keyboard, web browsing zoom, the ability to choose whether a disc should start automatically when you insert it into the PS3 and playback of rewriteable Blu-ray Discs.

Oh wow, the biggest upgrade for me (aside from background downloading) is that "games auto launching when inserted" option. I hope it also affects launching a game when turning the system on. When you have a device that you use for viewing pictures, listening to music, watching movies, AND playing games, you shouldn't have to sit there during the initial start-up sequence waiting to scroll left or right out of the game menu to prevent it from loading.

*edit: and after actually reading the article, it does.

Yeah, it's already been many a times when upon powering up the system directly via the console's power button, I suddenly realize that I left a game sitting in the machine...at which point I desperately and unsuccessfully lunge for the controller ten feet across the room, nearly shattering my clavicle as my body thuds to the hard floor.

Yes, this will be a welcomed feature indeed!

I was wondering where it said you only play games off the hdd, couldnt find it, but being able to watch a movie is awesome. This little entertainment center is getting some good updates. Yeah that auto startup thing was bugging, really bugged me with the psp also, always ejected the game prior to turning it on. Should be a good option for the ps3.

"Support for Bluetooth mice and keyboards"

Wow, that's the first I've heard of it. Great news if true, as a lot of people have been waiting for this.

I'm I not the only one that has to have music during games? It has been a disapointing march for my ps3, music during gamesd like the 360 makes the games much funner in my opinion.

Remembering Medal Of Honor: The Forgotten Master Of WW2 Games

Ibrahim from eXputer: "The Medal of Honor franchise was once the crown jewel of FPS war games, later defeated by the tides of time and poor development."

They tried to turn it into Call of Duty and it killed it off. They should reboot it and go back to it's roots. But they'd ruin it with online-only/multiplayer style bullshit so why bother? I have very fond memories of these games, but this series can stay dead as far as I'm concerned.

Was literally just thinking of this game the other week with the secret nut cracker mission and the shooting Bismarck dog lmao. Loved these games as a kid

I have fond memories of playing the Medal of Honor Breakthrough MP Demo. It had two maps and custom servers. Living on campus, I had it downloaded on one of the PC Lab servers so I could access it on any computer at the university. Joined a clan and made friends that I still keep in touch with today.
