Iron Grip: Warlord simply tries to do way too much in the game without fully succeeding at anything in particular: The tower defense and RTS elements are shallow and practically dismissed, your AI comrades are useless, and you're frequently fighting against a flood of enemies that you can barely handle with your underpowered weaponry. The concept is an interesting one, but Iron Grip: Warlord doesn't do nearly enough to make this an enjoyable experience. Add to that the fact that multiplayer (if you can find a session to play) points out the shortcomings of the single player game and you'll realize that this doesn't work for fans of any one of the three genres included.

Nightmare Mode gives indie FPS/Tower Defense title Iron Grip: Warlords a playthrough and then writes about what makes the game so great: its atmosphere. Along the way they try to tell the story of the defense of some funnily named faux eastern European palace, show pictures of men holding guns, and there's probably even a little bit of crying.
