Xbox 360 System update now available (no new features)

XBL's Major Nelson: A few minutes ago, the team released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE. Sometime over the next few hours when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you'll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. This update addresses interruption issues that some Xbox LIVE users may have experienced when playing a limited number of Xbox 360 games.

There are no other changes or enhancements in this update…in other words no new features.
This update will be rolled out to all Xbox LIVE members around the world over the space of a few hours, so you may not get prompted for the update immediately.

Strange all over a system performence update.

Too much time on your hands? 4 or 5 comments talking about rubbish that has little to do with the topic?

DragonWarrior_43488d ago

you guys have text chat, but ps3 users have a chat room, sorta like a yahoo style chat room. You can add 100 people to the chat. Can your 360 do that? BTW,, the ps3 had the same type of text chat since last year.

v1c1ous3488d ago

you do know 360 users can text chat with msn/windows live users right?

JasonPC360PS3Wii3488d ago

100 people to a chat would sound like trying to understand what each person is saying at a busy noisy party from the other side of the room. It's not MS's fault that PS3 firmware 2.70 was such a disappointment.

Bucky Sligo3488d ago

100 people live voice chat room, chaos!

Gam713488d ago

100 people?

I was reading this

"Hi everyone, we’re adding some great new features with the next PS3 firmware update (v2.70) that will continue to enhance your connected experience on the PS3. The 2.70 update brings a new Text Chat feature that enables you to communicate online with your PlayStation Network friends. Now, you’ll be able to chat with up to 15 online friends using the Wireless Keypad, on-screen keyboard, or other compatible keyboard peripherals. Not only can you chat with your friends instantly, but you can also access Text Chat while playing PS3 games and even participate in up to three chat rooms at once."

from the playstation website.

Now maybe my maths isn't as good as it was but I make that 45 not 100.
Then again I'm not a 12yo yank who's trolling.

If you're going to troll get the facts close to right

Mr_Bun3488d ago

I hope for your sake you are being sarcastic....I have seen a number of relevant arguments showcasing the PS3, but textchat is not one of them!

Doctor_Doom3488d ago (Edited 3488d ago )

WTF 100 people ???
Group chat with 100 people ???
Thats insane !!!

only on the PS3

DelbertGrady3488d ago (Edited 3488d ago )

The 360 let's you select the people you want to chat with when you are in the dashboard menu, then join a game with these people, still chatting without interruption from load screens etc, and finally chat with the same people while playing the game. Without having to listen to the other people who are in your game session. Unless you want to. Even if one of you decides to quit the game and return to the dashboard you can keep chatting.

Can PSN do that?

HighDefinition3488d ago

Mass Effect and Lost Oddessy for the same price. F text chat, Mass Effect and LO are better than any text chatting or XBL features.

With PSN I didn`t have to choose. Wierd, huh?

Rainstorm813488d ago

this is why being a fanboy gives you brain damage. those features are great but does it justify 50$ a year just for that one feature? i dont think so. The fact is PSN will eventually have it at some point in the future and still be free.

Truth is a free service get updated it gets bashed. Pay service get an update its everything in the world. Truth is Neither update is bad.

What is bad is paying for a service that is very comparable.

PSN 2 years old
XBL 7 years old
And they are damn near equal
Who really loses??

N4Flamers3488d ago

who really looses? morons like you who can never get a full gaming experience because they're stuck on one company. Why do people pay for bottled water, because they want to. I pay for xbl because I like playing with my friends on hardware and games they own. I like the fact that we can stay connected despite the fact that we are playing different games. Its just plain fun and isnt that what games are supposed to be about.

P.S. My friend owns a PS3 and if he gets a game I want to play, I just play it there. I dont knock it because I dont have the friends list or achievements that I do on my xbox, I just enjoy the game.

Halochampian3487d ago

You just showed off how little you know about the 360. You can voice chat and text your friends on xbox Live without paying anything.

No I was just stating a fact. BTW, Windows Chat isnt really a chat room. Its just a text messaging when you recieve a message on xbox live. A chat room is where there is a big screen and everyone can see what everyone is typing. I think thats pretty cool. Its way better then just doing one text at a time and having to open and close over and over again.

BTW, just so you guys know, there is an option for cross game party voice/video chat. We cant use it as of yet, but it seems that is the next step sony is taking. Dont get me wrong. I love my xbox live, I just dont know that I can justify paying for it as soon as Sony does the same thing for free. Actually sonys in chat video/voice party chat will be better then xbox lives party system because everyone will beable to do video together. Not just one person at a time.

BTW,I wasn't trolling about the 100 man chat. I was in room last night with over 10 friends and i didn't seem to have a cap. Why am I a troll now? Im 28 btw, with my own house, a 2005 vette, a van for the fam, 3 kids and a wife? Im about to open a new bank and tax refund company. How am I a kid?

Gam713488d ago

3 kids a house a car, etc.

I believe you.

Seriously. You said it on the internet so it must be true.
The fact that you felt the need to prove how much of an adult you are proves you are one.

Anyway when you say "can your 360 do that" right after exaggerating a feature on your console of choice in a thread which isn't about that console looks like trolling to me.

And why would they put an option for cross game video\voice chat that you can't use?
Can anyone else verify this or is this another bare fac... bold claim of yours.

I thought just normal game chat had to be put in by the developers not sony.

creeping judas3488d ago

But really, I am more interested in this Bank he is starting up??
I'd like to hear more about that!!

JaPo3487d ago (Edited 3487d ago )

@Gam71: Nice.

I'm not so disappointed with either of the new updates. The text chat feature is essentially useless to me, as it's just as awkward as sending messages. I guess if some people claim to be pleased with it, then Sony have done something right. I cannot wait for cross-game voice chat, though. I survive with my cunning and my crafty innovation: big long wire to my Skype-enabled laptop.

It would be difficult for Xboxers to be 'shafted' with this update. They already have all the important features.

I just don't really care. PSN is still quite a distance behind XBL, even when excluding the features that come with Gold Membership.

It's unfortunate that Sony didn't plan ahead, everyone can admit that. As a PS3 owner I find it difficult to comprehend how anyone could say PSN is superior to XBL. It just isn't. Price can't be factored in to quality. The £30 fee or so is absolutely miniscule if you think about it; half an hour or so's wages a month at the very most.

From a subscriber's point of view

Low price:
XBL<PSN - Small disadvantage

XBL>PSN - Large advantage.

In this case, the advantage far outweighs the disadvantage.
