A few years ago, IGN got a call from a Dallas-based arcade collector named Marty Franklin. Marty had a line on an old game called Vavatron manufactured by a company called 3 American Joes. He had never heard of the game and wondered if they knew anything about it. They did not.
IGN tried to look it up on The Killer List of Videogames website as they spoke. They also thumbed through The Arcade Video Game Price Guide, by Dan Hower, John Talarico, and Tim Ferrante. Nothing.
"Sounds like you've got a prototype on your hands," IGN said.
"Think it's worth anything?" Marty asked.
