IGN: The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena Review

Hilary Goldstein from IGN writes:

"The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is a difficult game to judge. The first half of the game, Escape from Butcher Bay, certain shows its age, but is still an innovative game. The sequel, however, comes off as a poor imitation. It's far more frustrating and seems more shooter than anything else. It's not a terrible game for a sequel, but it's inferior to Butcher Bay. If you played the original back in 2004, then there's little reason to pick this game up. However, if you never played Riddick's first adventure it (and its modest follow-up) are worth checking out."

The demo was ugh at best. I hope that isn't what people were talking about was this oh so awesome game that was on the Xbox many years ago.

The demo sucked. But all you have to do is watch some of the videos of this game at Gametrailers (particularly the "Intro" cinematic video) to tell that this is one epic, cinematic sci-fi experience, of which the demo is a poor representation.

I played the demo and it was not that great. The Xbox original was actually better.

I hate how underhyped games seemingly always get lower scores because of the lack of hype/anticipation or fanboy following. Riddick: Dark Athena is one of my most anticipated games of the year, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be a lot better than this score indicates. Demo was crap, I will freely admit, but it's not indicative of the entire game.

It doesn't help that Hilary Goldstein is one of the most non-credible doofuses in the gaming press I've ever seen. He mentioned that the lip-synching and facial animations of this game aren't the best, which I will agree with, but he doesn't mention that the overall voice acting, dialog, cinematic direction, and NPC life-likeness is some of the best I've ever seen in a videogame. At least it's a hell of a lot better than the "B-movie fare" that Hilary equates it with (I would put Resident Evil in that category), but I don't expect that idiot to know the difference between what's good and bad.

I'm a little pissed with the review. It says little about the graphics, controls or online multiplayer. Instead it focuses on the pseudo-sequel as not being as good as Butcher's Bay. In other words, poor review. Million's of people never got to play the original because it was only on the Xbox and now might never because of this $hitty review. IGN hyped this game up sense it was announced and trashes it. Senseless, especially because most other media outlets are reviewing it much higher.

I am sorry to say this, but IGN does this to almost every game. Hype it up, then give it crap reviews. The main idiot is Greg. I hate him and get down on my knees every night praying for him to be exiled to hell. This is the first Review I have seen from Hilary that had those issues. I like Hilary. He and Jeremy are like my favourite reviewers on IGN. Just look at Greg he does exactly as I said. From the wrestling games to many more. They need to fire him. I swear to go any one who says Greg is their role model should be shot. Shot again if still living. I am done.

And yeah, Greg needs to burn in hell.
