PlayStation 2 Will Be Available for Under $100

John Koller on official PlayStation blog:

"Hi everyone, the last time you heard from me, I talked about the huge milestone that PlayStation 2 achieved – reaching 50 million units sold in North America. Today I'm excited to talk about another milestone in PlayStation 2's lifespan. For the first time ever, PlayStation 2 will be offered at a price point under $100 (that's $99.99 MSRP, to be exact), starting April 1!"

There goes the BIG annoucement! ;)

Muggles3490d ago

Good news, but I was still hoping for some PS3-related news...

SL1M DADDY3490d ago

To those who still play and love the PS2, it is great news. 99 bucks is cheap when considering a console that shares the same graphics as the Wii and has a library of games that is nearly never ending.

uie4rhig3490d ago

just not of the console that you wanted it to be :P

To me this signals compensation for leaving out a PS3 price cut.

Well that was a megaton of epic proportions lol

Max Power3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

so sony said it was going to be epic? i thought they said there was going to be an annoucement, and there you go. the most sold system in history is 99 bucks, half of the price of a current system (no names) which can still potentially be out sold in a key market of the world (think eastern).....ouch.

Mr_Bun3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

You comments are usually quite asinine, but this announcement sucks...There have been sales 2 years ago where you could pick up a brand new PS2 for 99$

Hopefully there will be more to announce!

UltraNova3490d ago

Care to give us some proof of Sony executives saying that todays announcement was going to be a 'megaton of epic proportions' as you call it?

I guess when you are a regular to sites as Kotaku you get this kind of effect...

Back to the topic, 99 dollars for the best gaming machine ever thats a real bargain. Sony still supports it, the game library is in one word immense ( with quite many quality titles i might add ) and you get arguably the best gaming experience out there...

I think Sony should put some weight on the PS2 again and market it as a Wii competitor, since both the 360 and the ps3 are in a league on their own now..

For those who are eager to see a PS3 price cut...don't hold your breath guys... If it is going to happen this year it will be either at E3 or late November before the major holiday season and when their heavy hitters will be out.

Back to KZ2 now, gotta level up a bit! man talking about addictions phew..

TheHater3490d ago

for some blog writes a blog post about how Sony fail with this Announcement because they hype it up like there was no tomorrow. But Sony wasn't the ones hyping this up, it was Kotaku and the media.

solidjun53490d ago

It's probably going to say "Will SONY's wimper of announcement spelled the doom of the PS3?" or "No PS3 pricecut: Is this the final nail in the coffin?". It will probably be submitted by Bloodmask.

By the way, I hate those articles with the most retarded titles but with a question mark.

MURKERR3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

...must admit im disappointed

farhsa20083490d ago

If you are a gamer and haven't got a ps2 yet, you should be ashamed of yourself! It is the last of its kind.
