50 Great Ways to Die

Gameplayer has an entertaining trip down (a bloody) notalgia lane in the article 50 Great Ways to Die. It doccuments, with footage, the 50 greatest (from plain funny to downright scarring) deaths in video games history.

"The life of digital characters, regardless of whether they're rendered avatars of real-life players or computer controlled non-playable characters, is tough. If they existed in the real world, they'd be uninsurable outcasts covered in wounds with an implicit fear of anyone holding anything that resembled a game controller. We'd like to take this opportunity to salute and respect these digital beings for providing the gaming world with countless hours of entertainment. It is through their digital deaths that many a face has been brought to ear-to-ear grins or wide-mouthed shock. Without further ado, let us delve into 50 great ways to die (in gaming, of course)."

Picking the best is tough. I have always loved (and hated, depending on which side of the fence I am on) the guy that flies the chopper straight into an explosion in battlefield, filled with his friends.

The comments that pop up in the text box are never short of LOL funny.

Ok, so clearly there's a lot more than 50 ways to die in a game. But some of those videos are hilarious! Punisher and Counter Strike were my faves.

Oh man, I think I'll have to get a copy of The Punisher.
Needs more Postal 2 when you can p**s on people, make them puke, grab a shovel and knock their head and the neck keeps on spilling a combo of blood and puke, then you can hit the head with a shovel like a game of golf and play fetch with the local dog and set fire to it if you like to cause a car to blow up and set fire to several pedestrians.

I know that the punisher got banned in a numebr of countries. It did not make it to Australia. Which sucks becuase I too just got an urge to go and play that game.

Meh. Dying in games used to mean something...

Nowadays I'm playing Prince of Persia and Battlefield Bad Company - and nothing I do can will permanently kill the bastard.

There's something wrong with that.

SlappingOysters3492d ago

no what sucked is spending an hour trying to get to a certain point in a game and then having some lame jumping bug have you fall of a platform and taking your last life forcing you all the way back to the start again.

I prefer finishing my games!

If kids can't die in a game anymore, how will they know the consequences of the freaky crap they do on-screen?

I'm just thinking of the kids. In a purely non-pedo way, of course...

SlappingOysters3492d ago

Well according to this article there is most certainly lots of interesting ways in which they can learn the perils of their actions.

Prince of Persia is a sign of the beginning of the end for gaming deaths... boo!

SlappingOysters3492d ago

Seriously, I thought that game design was the most lambusted feature of Prince of Persia - surely they will not do it again?
