Sega looks to make Yakuza director into the next Hideo Kojima

Spear heading this effort will be Yakuza director Toshihiro Nagoshi. Maeda believes Nagoshi could be the next Hideo Kojima, meaning a game director that could produce games that appeal audiences on a large scale. In 2009, Maeda will begin to push Nagoshi on a more worldwide level. Nagoshi is already a rather big game director in Japan, featured in advertisements for his games in the country.

Walking in Kojima's steps isn't easy, but the Yakuza games are good, so I have faith in Nagoshi. The Yakuza 3 demo is so much fun!

he could be on kojima steps , but there r 2 problemes ,1- we cant play yakuza 3 properly to judge it , 2- kojima has this special respect from ppl and how matter how good another dirctor is he will not come as near as kojima.

gaffyh3489d ago

the bit I'm worried about is " few games a year ", maybe if he made a game every few years, but vice-versa and they'll all end up being bad games.

You have got to hand it to this man he's consistently good just let him continue without fanfare Sega so that he's focussed on games.

"In 2009, Maeda will begin to push Nagoshi on a more worldwide level."

Indirect Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! and/or Yakuza 3 localisation announcement for the win?

"Maeda believes Nagoshi could be the next Hideo Kojima, meaning a game director that could produce games that appeal audiences on a large scale."

I always saw Kojima as more of an innovator and director of badass cut-scenes, myself.

There was an article a while back where Kojima explained that he and Nagoshi were drinking buddies and both respected each other's games. I don't doubt he has the potential to reach Kojima's level of popularity with time.

I wonder how awesome a Kojima/Nagoshi game would be.

He is "ALMOST" on par with Kojima, you will know that if you play YAKUZA 2 and KENZAN. His games are awesome, sadly, few knows about it.

The cinematics are so so badass in the Yakuza 3 demo. They wreak of style - I love it when you spit the cigarette into a bad guy's face and then do a flying punch.

Man the Ryu Ga Gotoku series i pure greatness. I have no doubts that he will soon be just as great as Kojima.

it's like watching top action movie (^_^)

callahan093489d ago

I'm all for it. The thing is, Sega, you've got to release Yakuza 3 in English!!

shadowfox3489d ago

Thats a given... Hopefully at E3 we hear about some of these Japanese exclusives coming to the US(looking at White Knight, Demon's Souls, and Yakuza).

Well if you want you can always order Demon Souls from Yesasia BUT make sure to get the Asian version since its the only one that has both English audio and text. I wanted to order it BUT i ended up getting Siren New translation instead. But sometime soon ill be buying Demon Souls.

Because Kojima at least releases his games outside of Japan without hesitation.

Kojima is so popular because of his great games that also appeal to the western audiences!

Now, for that to happen with this guy's games - they have to actually bring them over here, all the older yakuza games taken forever to get into the western countries and it is looking like this one will too.
